chrisMyzel··on Don’t require a user to be interested twice: lessons on reducing signup friction
We implemented a random fake client-HED34A@mycompany.io account being automatically created upon a user hit's our 'Get Started' Button. The user can then lateron decide to create a real account. If our client wants to come back later they can either write down their fake & random email@mycompany.io & login just with that (it's only known by them) or enter their real address
chrisMyzel··on Show HN: Lite – A small, fast text editor
Also does it come with.vim keybindings :D
chrisMyzel··on Save your Linux machine – Recovering your root password and more
Sure but you might have forgotten your root password and remembered your disk encryption pw
chrisMyzel··on Save your Linux machine – Recovering your root password and more
encryption password ≠ root password , at least not for me :-)
chrisMyzel··on Ask HN: What scientific phenomenon do you wish someone would explain better?
Math!
chrisMyzel··on It’s Time to Build
Push aside your intelect for a second everybody, stop discussing, start building. Make groups for ideas - you did not understand the article, it did not ask for your opinion but for YOU taking action, if not now then when?

chrisMyzel··on Show HN: Afctl – CLI to manage and deploy Airflow projects faster and smoother
Deploying airflow workers took me loads of sweat to get used to - will defenitely try this
chrisMyzel··on Org-roam: Rudimentary Roam replica with Org-mode
Great - i started yesterday using org-roam and got many ideas out of my head. Found it by reading about zettelkasten (in the fabolous "Where good ideas come from - The History of innovation") and DevonThink (which i really miss, not avail for linux) and googled for alternatives
chrisMyzel··on Windows 10 isn’t the most vulnerable operating system – it’s Linux
Isn't it when Windows and OSX would be ooen source we'd only be able to find the real number of vuln.
chrisMyzel··on Ask HN: What industries are underserved by software?
If you have already expertise in Aviation in-house - why not aviation. It's currently still a very slow moving industry but spacecrafts were once too. Further there's General Aviation which has already a strong software market around tablet/pc based navigation and flight planning but lacks to see anything truly "disruptive".
chrisMyzel··on Jitsi Meet: open-source video conferencing
Except for last week (jitsi sucked whenever it was more than two people) we've been doing weekly videocalls for 11 months via meet.jit.si between Hamburg (Germany), Goa (India) & South Cambodia with almost zero issues - we even kicked out webex since jitsi had dial in
chrisMyzel··on Revoking certain certificates on March 4
Oh Let's Encrypt - what a chaos tuesday this was for me - I was informed yesterday, 19:00 (UTC+7) and it was a fun evening - many befriended companies and their clients where not informed at all.

Funny to find out the otherwise awesome traefik has no force-renewal other than messing around with acme.json until it renews

chrisMyzel··on The ZUGFeRD and Factur-X Formats for Electronic Invoices
"ZUGFeRD leverages an important feature of PDF/A-3 (ISO 19005-3) which allows to embed attachments of arbitrary types into the PDF/A document"

Oh - you mean I can send documents that have arbitrary payloads to my tax office? That sounds interesting.

chrisMyzel··on Show HN: Startizer – Startup Incubation System (MVP v2 Made in Access)
I'm missing the.CTA - afzer reading desktop based I want to click download and try it out
chrisMyzel··on Speeduino: Open-Source Engine Management
Is this about internal combustion engine management?
chrisMyzel··on Solar-Electric Drone Calculations
So a wing only aircraft of 8m wingspan is able to sustainly fly? What does a loss of 1, -1, -90000 translate to or is this a relative value. Did you find out if this matches real world experiments?
chrisMyzel··on Punkbit – a slick Hacker News reader
I see a big Y, a small (scroll?) animation, the rest is WSOD
chrisMyzel··on Kids are swapping AirPods and using text-to-speech to talk secretly in class
haha very nice - but some devs out there still believe today that base64 is encrypted - think I've seen entire websites around it warning.that it is not...think teachers should be trained to find people like you and me and realize how much of worth is behind those early hacking skills
chrisMyzel··on Reviving Sandstorm
Thumbsup for sandstorm - my conpany is extensivly using it with a small team and external clients.

For those who dont know what it is:

Single Sing On with an App Store. Better explained:

You create one account and then can create/edit/share/copy projects of completely unrelated software . So lets say you create a gitlab installation, 3 etherpad projects, 5 wekan (trello clone) boards and then share them with your team/client/family by just adding their email adresses - awesome tool!

chrisMyzel··on Kids are swapping AirPods and using text-to-speech to talk secretly in class
You can build pretty good "spam viruses" with that commans and a simple shell script forcing someone to confirm thousands of messages or reboot the computer
chrisMyzel··on Build vs. Buy: How to blow $100k saving money
If your into Dev &| Ops the example of A/B testing should be something that you engineer in really no time. Be it reconfiguring your existing webserver or re-using an elastic search instance your anyway running I think it's like cooking an Asian meal as an Italian cook, you have the tools , you have the knowledge.
chrisMyzel··on Show HN: KarateClub a Python library for unsupervised machine learning on graphs
would anyone please explain a practical non scientific example what one could do with this project given a arbitrary and complex graph being fed as an input
chrisMyzel··on An investigation into the smartphone tracking industry
So can once and forever tell me someone why I can be tracked by a 3rd party app when I explicitly disable location services in my android phone? I'm not.talking about the device vendor or OS maker.

Can it really be so many people are so god damn stupid to leave that service on all the time or is it me here being goddamn stupid and naive :)

chrisMyzel··on This Page is Designed to Last
Using wallabag (o.s. Pocket like alternative) for bookmarks and it saves a copy of the website in a screenreader mode fashion so text and images - so far I have around 2k links in there and it takes no significant size so far
chrisMyzel··on Fighting Facebook with Tech
I saw recently how FB tricks around adblockers and it made me mad and curious at the same time
chrisMyzel··on Show HN: P2P/serverless browser to Go back end – no DNS/IP required
@author I have worked for W3C a while - think the best bet would be to fork the WebRTC repo and propose a new Draft/ an edit of the current via Github. Most guidelines and contact adresses are publicx available. Your looking to contact the "Web Realtime-Communication Workinggroup". Theres regular worldwide meetings in W3C where one or multiple representatives of a regional office are in an 1hr call together and update each other. If you'd send a motivated email to any local w3c office that would propably also make it to a discussion in such a meeting e.g. on how to treat individuals as the.current buisiness model of W3C relies on paid membership.

is it down? getting a 403 "Could not fetch resource at https://clients6.google.com/drive/v2beta/files/1u7flclharvMc...: 403"

Guess too many people trying to access it will limit Colab's free offering :)

Why is it on colab anyway?

EDIT: is anybody else experiencing this, I'm using the official play link from the website which points to --> https://colab.research.google.com/drive/1u7flclharvMchwWHY7Y...
