chpatrick··on Figma restricts MCP access to whitelisted clients, excluding Pi
Open MCP basically kills your product in my opinion, you can't charge for any feature the LLM can do itself.

It's probably good news for users and open source though, why would you pay for something if a free tool with an MCP can do it.

chpatrick··on OpenAI agents tried to bruteforce a UN website's API fields
I think the even bigger worry is that anyone who doesn't want to use their models safely can already do this with open models. Even if OpenAI, Anthropic etc get their act together, the cat's out of the bag.
chpatrick··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
Sure you can make a bad one, but you can always switch to a different one.
chpatrick··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
The problem with Arch is that configuration is by hand so you have to do it every time. With Nix you configure it once and then you can deploy it anywhere. Also it's pretty much impossible to break since the system is immutable and you can boot to a different revision any time.
chpatrick··on Jev in 25 Lines of Python
How is that different from just not letting it output option 5 when you sample from the probabilities?
chpatrick··on Jev in 25 Lines of Python
LLMs are constant time per token, if you only let it choose a/b/c/d then there's nothing else it can "spend".
chpatrick··on Jev in 25 Lines of Python
The 25 lines is the only thing that makes Jev different compared to Solution apparently.
chpatrick··on Jev in 25 Lines of Python
Could someone explain how Jev is different from using any old model and constraining the output to "My choice is a/b/c..."?
chpatrick··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
Slop is slop because people put in zero effort so the LLM just produces the first thing it was trained to do. You can absolutely get good results out of AI but it takes taste and a little work.
chpatrick··on The DeepMind Institute
Yeah but we're talking about something that was trained on petabytes of noisy, difficult to parse and ambiguous information.
chpatrick··on The DeepMind Institute
They've read a few thousand years of experiential data in text form.
chpatrick··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
They remind me of Kodak inventing the digital camera and sitting on it to preserve their film business.
chpatrick··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
I find its style the most sycophantic and annoying personally.
chpatrick··on Let's make quality the norm again
Spoiler alert, almost everything is made in China, including the premium stuff.
chpatrick··on Nvidia is the central bank of AI
Minimax H3 works pretty great and you can run it on a 3090.
chpatrick··on US diesel hits record $6 a gallon on Iran supply shock
That's included in the number, buddy. Read the report.

Making and using a modern solar panel emits up to 44 grams of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gas per kWh over its lifetime as opposed to up to 1000 grams for fossil fuel generators.

That's 20x cleaner.

chpatrick··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
So if a model with exactly the same architecture controls a robot then it's suddenly sentient or what? "They generate actions in the real world"
chpatrick··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
Does being made out of meat instead of silicon make you more sentient?
chpatrick··on Large language models develop novel social biases through adaptive exploration
Shouldn't doesn't mean people wouldn't.
chpatrick··on Among European Companies That Use a CDN, Nearly 9 in 10 Use Cloudflare
It's actually a great service though.
chpatrick··on How we monitor internal coding agents for misalignment
If ai watermarking is undetectable to humans I wonder if sinister stuff in the context is also undetectable... Some thought or mood that you can't read but is still encoded in the tokens.
chpatrick··on The "$60 Gaming PC" – AMD BC-250 (2025)
As long as you only want to play games from 2008. :)
chpatrick··on The asteroid currently hitting front end web development
I had the same job 5 years ago, but I'm sure you know better.
chpatrick··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
And model training isn't putting money back into the business?
chpatrick··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
As opposed to...?

I'm also outsourcing computational geometry to CGAL and CPU optimizations to GCC, so what? I can still reason about them.

For example for a problem I had recently Claude pointed out (after some prodding for me) that the determinant of the Jacobian of a function I'm interested in is a polynomial in polar coordinates, so I used a fancy root finding library (which I also didn't write) to solve it efficiently.

chpatrick··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
Still unsolved for 87 years.

I'm also dependent on a bunch of advanced libraries and compilers I didn't write. I could reimplement them if I took years to do it but it would be a total waste of time.
