chimen··on Meta's memo to employees rolling back DEI programs
Looking at your comments history I need to do this: GhatGPT test: send me a react component for a todo app.
chimen··on The Future of Htmx
i love frontends like shadcn/ui too much to go away from react - AS MUCH as I'd love to do it since I hate npm cancer to death

What is the "so called safety" that we do?
chimen··on How to lose a fortune with one bad click
One of the reasons I stay away from it is that, at least in recent years, every scam that I see taking place involves crypto. I have a lot of acquaintances and I can almost draw a line at this stage: the higher the "shadyness" of the person, the more they are invested or talking about crypto. I am yet, even tho I owned, to have had the need to use crypto in my daily/weekly/monthly/yearly life.

It is very easy to destroy lives with it as we can see in this case, and, making it harder to do so will work against the vary nature of this tech. This is a tough nut to crack but I think the space will remain filled with predators constantly baiting prey into the system with the promise of a big reward.

chimen··on Advanced Civilizations Could Be Indistinguishable from Nature
Unless it's a simulation and stuff exists only when you look at it to save GPU cycles for more important stuff.
chimen··on We switched from Next.js to Astro (and why it might interest you)
"better" is just fashion nowadays. There's nothing astro does that NextJs can't. Worked with both and still work with both.
chimen··on Moving Off Heroku, Slowly
Mailgun on the same path, exactly.
chimen··on Prisma Postgres – Runs on bare metal and unikernels
Let's hope it is not another "Netlify" honeypot aka "settle in boys, generous free plan, port everything and lock yourself in. I'll start adjusting those prices next year when it will cost you $10 even to send some emails from your contact form".
chimen··on Bulma CSS Framework
because it has follow links im there. It's a SEO spam.
chimen··on We accidentally burned through 200GB of proxy bandwidth in 6 hours
mhm, meanwhile his website says he has "Access our 115+ Million proxy network." huh?
chimen··on We accidentally burned through 200GB of proxy bandwidth in 6 hours
They are never ethically sourced. Ethically for them means placing a phrase in a 10k word TOS when victims installs app X, game y which loads their sdk. Ethically here means "we warned them in a TOS"
chimen··on Show HN: A source-available billing system I've spent 18 months building

chimen··on FTC sues Adobe for hiding fees and inhibiting cancellations
easy to call people names on the internet is it not? what if i did all that?
chimen··on FTC sues Adobe for hiding fees and inhibiting cancellations
I had no Revolut back then
chimen··on FTC sues Adobe for hiding fees and inhibiting cancellations
Only if you can cancel your sub. They are taking money from my account even after 6 years, each month, and I can't cancel it. (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40619329#40619770)
chimen··on Adobe users are outraged over vague new policy's AI implications
Adobe is a virus. You cannot get rid of it. I have an old payment subscription at them that I cannot cancel even after calling the bank. You can't veen close it from the process list without sacrificing 2 hours.
chimen··on Leaving Rust gamedev after 3 years
As I said above, cult-like. They will swiftly call you names if you even dare to question their beliefs. Thank you for proving me right kind sir.

I do not complain. I've seen this trend multiple times by now. First time was with Ruby on Rails I think [1], then the cancer that led us to write JS to output HTML and all the good stuff that came and still manages to pour from npm. Every now and then you can spot the "fashion" out of these things.

Rust is good and has earned its place. I just despise cult-like followings for these languages and technologies.

chimen··on Leaving Rust gamedev after 3 years
Oh the language is good, it's the people. Cult-like.
chimen··on Leaving Rust gamedev after 3 years
Rust is the "frontend wave" of the backends. All the woke kids gravitate towards it. A suffix of "Written in Rust" is a thing here so I'm throwing away my internet points now.
chimen··on HTML-first, framework-agnostic implementation of shadcn/UI – franken/UI
I see minimalism, not brutalism and, comparing Vercel's design with Netlify's (from your bio), guess where I find the brutalism...
chimen··on LiveView Is Best with Svelte

chimen··on LiveView Is Best with Svelte

chimen··on Is the Sun Conscious? (2021) [pdf]

chimen··on Salim Kara stole $2M in coins with a magnet and a car antenna (2022)
Used to do that with public phones as kids in communist Romania in mid 80s. Ate a lot of icecream.
chimen··on Bhutan declares its entire street dog population fully sterilized and vaccinated
By name I'd say you're romanian. Certainly you must know of the 2 kids that died there to stray dogs in the recent years right? One of them died in a parc.

Also, why are you inserting yourself in a discussion about an article without reading the article?

chimen··on Denmark Aims a Wrecking Ball at 'Non-Western' Neighborhoods
Very good. Look at Sweden nowadays. Trying to integrate people that came to "take over" as opposed to be integrated is never going to work.

> At 4%, male migrants aged 15–64 with non-Western backgrounds had twice the conviction rate against the Danish Penal Code in 2018, compared to 2% for Danish men. In a given year, about 13% of all male descendants of non-Western migrants aged 17–24 are convicted against the penal code.[1]

> In November 2018, the government announced plans to house failed asylum claimants, criminal foreigners who could not be deported and foreign fighters in the Islamic State on Lindholm (Stege Bugt), an island no permanent residents.[92][93] The scheme was approved by Danish parliament 19 December 2018. The plan was opposed by council leaders in Vordingsborg municipality and merchants in Kalvehave, where the ferry to Lindholm has its port.[1]

They are obviously trying to backtrack
