chilipepperhott··on Mold Linker Version 3.0.0 Release – Rewritten in Rust
Was the conversion assisted? I get the sense that Mold's author is an extremely competent guy and it would be quite feasible for someone like him to do it on his own.
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News with reduced priority for AI driven content

chilipepperhott··on Show HN: Hacker News, without AI
This one actually works: https://elijahpotter.dev/hnsansai
chilipepperhott··on Ask HN: Can we please limit the AI news flood?
I have found that the https://lobste.rs/ submission policy means that there is a lot less slop (and discussion of slop) over there. They focus more heavily on technical discussions, which I find more rewarding.
chilipepperhott··on iPhone Duo
I believe this is also known as a Dutch auction. They don't know the true value of their product, so they price it high and will slowly bring it down until they are satisfied with demand.
chilipepperhott··on Show HN: How much of Hacker News is AI?
I don't believe that is their point.
chilipepperhott··on Show HN: Huzzah – a novel approach to coding with AI
I think that this would be easy to criticize without interfacing with their underlying idea here.

It's cool that with a tool like this you don't NEED to get all aspects of your code finalized and ready. It's possible to be vague when you want to and specific when you need to.

I'm not sure if that itself would work well in practice, but the project is still quite cool nonetheless.

chilipepperhott··on Incident with Github.com
I absolutely agree. I don't feel that I have sufficient evidence that they even really care about these reliability problems.
chilipepperhott··on Incident with Github.com
Not to mention AWS?
chilipepperhott··on Incident with Github.com
They actually _did_ hit zero nines of availability a few months ago.
chilipepperhott··on Incident with Github.com
Plurality should have been the operative word.

What I want:

A self hosted version of GitHub that is a precise mirror of an actual GitHub repository. That is, PRs from GitHub appear on the selfhosted instance and my reviews from the self hosted instance appear on GitHub. That way I can work on my private instance when GitHub is down (or slow) and I can be assured my work still appears to everyone online.

Does this exist?

chilipepperhott··on Scriptc by Vercel: TypeScript-to-Native compiler, no JavaScript engine in binary
It's difficult to ignore how the README is filled with Claudisms.
chilipepperhott··on Neoengineers
I think you're absolutely right. I also think that trying to become a better person is an important part of living a full life. The work I put in during the hours I'm being paid are a part that life.
chilipepperhott··on Neoengineers
Thanks for the tip.

Howdy!

Sorry, I had an issue with the site being down earlier, so I threw up Cloudflare's bot detector. I'm sorry if that caused you trouble.

As for the back button hijacking, it is definitely unintentional, and I'll see if I can replicate that problem and fix it as soon as possible.

chilipepperhott··on Neoengineers
Should be good to go. Got a huge spike of traffic from China (according to Cloudflare) when this hit the front page. Odd…
chilipepperhott··on Goodbye, Forever, Probably
Jeesh guys, if you don't care, why did you comment or read it?

I personally thought the post was quite interesting and I honestly felt a strong desire to subscribe. It's a shame they're shutting down.

chilipepperhott··on AI saves about 3% of your hours, and almost none of it reaches the money
In research that studies a large enough population there will always be outliers. Maybe you are one of them. Your counterexample does not prove them wrong.
chilipepperhott··on AI saves about 3% of your hours, and almost none of it reaches the money
Did you make money from it?
chilipepperhott··on The 80% Problem: The Last 20% Is Where the Engineer Used to Live
Ironically, this post reeks of Claude.

> Generative AI hasn’t repealed this rule. It’s relocated it

chilipepperhott··on Slop Paralysis
You're right that version control is there to help, but it doesn't by itself stop you from pushing out broken code to production. That's the fear: landing bad code on user's machines.
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News, Sans AI
That would be cool. Although your username is a little suspicious…
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News, Sans AI
It should be accessible now.
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News, Sans AI
I've addressed the issues. It should be usable now. I apologize to everyone who encountered an error page. Have a good weekend, everyone!
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News, Sans AI
Not quite. Lots of articles don't mention AI in the title, even if that is their core subject.
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News, Sans AI
Show me an embedding model that runs as fast as an optimized regex engine and I'll buy you a beer.
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News, Sans AI
That should be fixed as soon as my server has a chance to catch up.
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News, Sans AI
D1 hater right here.
chilipepperhott··on Hacker News, Sans AI
Yes, it can. I am having a major cache invalidation problem. One of the major blights of programmers everywhere.
