chiffre01··on What It's Like to Work in One of America's Data Centers
Yes, there's a lot of evidence on all of those things:

chiffre01··on What It's Like to Work in One of America's Data Centers
Engineers, really? Maybe technicians ?
chiffre01··on Whirlpool Washer Transmission Repair (2007)
It's my understanding that top loaders are less prone to breakdowns.
chiffre01··on Linux on the Atari Jaguar
Am I the only one who clicks on these kind of articles holding out hope to see the glimmer of Linux on an actual CRT from composit outputs?

But it's always just screen shots from an emulator...

chiffre01··on My Struggles Talking to an Old Piece of Junk (Fanuc 0M)
Depends on how complex the part is. I've seen adaptive toolpath posts get 1,000s of lines long.
chiffre01··on My Struggles Talking to an Old Piece of Junk (Fanuc 0M)
Another problem with these old controls is even when code is sent over serial, they are slow. Think like less than 9600 baud.

They also don't have the computing power to do adaptive or other modern tool paths.

chiffre01··on Solar Energy Saves Europeans $135M a Day
It's not nothing. Plus the fact that it's money not not getting shipped out of Europe to hostile regions is a net win.
chiffre01··on The Melancholy of Slaying Monsters
I mean this has been a this has been a theme going back further than "Shadow of the Colossus" or "Undertale".

Both "Chrono Trigger" and "Crono Cross" make you question your actions and whether or not it was worth on a monster genocide.

chiffre01··on Photo GIMP – A Patch for GIMP 3 for Photoshop Users
I've never understood GIMP's approach to copy paste either. They've made a decision that copy and paste must require as many un-intuitive steps as possible.

Most graphics programs let you select a region, copy it and then move the copy around to where you want it, the end. You can usually paste into new layer if needed.

But not in GIMP for some reason you have to copy something and 'anchor it' or convert it to a new layer before you ever see it.

This kind of thing just makes me use other software.

chiffre01··on Screenshots of Old Desktop OSes
Try this out for all of KDE to CDE window theming needs:

chiffre01··on AI is killing B2B SaaS
The reality is anyone generate useful code with an AI agent now. Dores in accounting can now automate all her spreadsheets in a single afternoon.

Not trying to hype AI, but we are in an interesting transitional period.

chiffre01··on Old Insurance Maps – Georeferencing Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps on Modern Maps
Clicking on a lot of the maps gives me this ? I'm logged in as well

chiffre01··on Over 40% of deceased drivers in vehicle crashes test positive for THC: Study
Also the amount of people in DC who drive while smoking weed seems very high(no pun intended). Based on the number of cars that can be smelled from another car while in traffic.
chiffre01··on The only GM EV1 ever publicly sold
Plus according to this the Detroit Electric Sold 13,000 units between 1907 to 1939

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Electric

chiffre01··on Map of Near and Middle East Oil 1965
Just going to leave this here:

chiffre01··on Larry Ellison – 'citizens will be on their best behavior' amid nonstop recording
You are correct, I put income level in there too. We can't let Peter Thiel or Mark Zuckerberg off the hook either.
chiffre01··on Larry Ellison – 'citizens will be on their best behavior' amid nonstop recording
Why is it that every single person born between 1940 and 1965 (or making more than $1 million per year) just wants to see all freedoms erased and every natural resource exhausted for their personal comfort?
chiffre01··on Linux for Nintendo 64 (1997)
The modern version, that's for real:

https://github.com/clbr/n64bootloader/tree/master/n64linux

chiffre01··on You Had No Taste Before AI
Seems like most of the 'tasteless' habits in the article are also just laziness.
chiffre01··on Paper Folding Assembly Line [video]
I think paper-folding machines are something of a lost art. They’ve been around for literally centuries at this point, but there are so many interesting and useful things that can be made out of paper. Everything from packaging to envelopes to origami.

I wish there were smaller, cheaper versions on the market.

chiffre01··on Microsoft to force install the Microsoft 365 Copilot app in October
Besides Excel, CAD/CAM programs and maybe games? Is there really a reason to use windows?
chiffre01··on Amish men live longer
They also have a cohesive family and social circles. Probably can't hurt?
chiffre01··on A desktop environment without graphics (tmux-like)
I want to live in a world where all the vintage Curses like apps work on modern systems. Just like Lotus 123

https://github.com/taviso/123elf

chiffre01··on Lava RGB
I enjoy reading about these mods because they super interesting. But considering the NES graphics were never intended to be displayed in perfect form on high definition displays I always feel like something is being lost.
chiffre01··on The thousands of atomic bombs exploded on Earth (2015)
Does this prove/disprove the idea of nuclear winter? I know these bombs were blown up at different times, but it seems an event like nuclear winter would probably not happen.
chiffre01··on Framework Making Printers
I bought on of those five years ago for the handful of stuff we print annually. It has never let me down, this thing is solid.
chiffre01··on A dark money group is funding high-profile Democratic influencers
Considering I've never heard of any of these people, and it says they have a combined audience of 13 million followers, things are looking bleak.

Google says Joe Rogan alone has more than 14 million followers on Spotify and 16.4 million subscribers on YouTube all predominantly male (71-80 percent) as of March 2024

chiffre01··on Tesla said it didn't have key data in a fatal crash, then a hacker found it
The description of the guy finding the data while at a Starbucks doesn't do justice to his setup shown in the photo. My dude has a seriously chaotic and awesome setup there.
chiffre01··on Mapping connections of anti-offshore wind groups and their lawyers
Is it just money that motivates these people? Is that all? At this point, they must just want to watch civilization collapse for short-term gains.
chiffre01··on Word documents will be saved to the cloud automatically on Windows going forward
Shooting for that 7 percent Linux desktop market share!
