chezelenkoooo··on FBI Probes Service Selling 153M+ Drivers Licenses
Any kind of lending facility, for example, is required, by law, to retain identity documents for an extended period of time - we're talking around five years _post_ account closure.

So most businesses are not permitted to just delete the data.

chezelenkoooo··on Government sponsored study on alcohol doesn't stand up to scrutiny
Sugar is not addictive nor is it "much more harmful than alcohol". No one out there is just eating spoons of sugar because of its addictive properties.

Your post about obesity doesn't imply it's all about sugar.

One of the reasons obesity is such an issue is because of the combination of sweet and savoury foods that are very calories dense and not very satiating.

chezelenkoooo··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
Yes, the cost of AI is a big contributing factor.
chezelenkoooo··on The AI Backlash Could Get Ugly
I don't think it an either / or. The current AI models, as they are, improve productivity quite a bit. They're just super expensive but the expense is being subsidized so it appears reasonable.

An alternative possibility is that the models become much cheaper and their use becomes more ubiquitous which would be helpful.

chezelenkoooo··on Our commitment to Windows quality
I think you're vastly underestimating the technical illiteracy most people have with computers.

99% of people buy a desktop and don't even consider what the operating system is let alone think about changing it to something else. I would imagine they don't even know that a difference exists between operating systems.

chezelenkoooo··on Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux
There's a couple but nothing I've found at the level of i3 or whatever the hyprland equivalent is.
chezelenkoooo··on Rob Pike goes nuclear over GenAI
And all the other benefits of the world around you at large. Come on dude.
chezelenkoooo··on Steam Machine
I knew I was building a library if unplayed games for a reason.
chezelenkoooo··on The Einstein AI Model
I think the evidence of all human progress disagrees with this statement fairly strongly.
chezelenkoooo··on Three chips in and Google Tensor is on life support
I think people don't speak at their phones simply because the experience is so horrible.

I would LOVE to be able to voice control the various aspects of my phone but it's so mind numbingly frustrating that I'm annoyed just thinking about it. If it was better I would sacrifice other features for it.

chezelenkoooo··on The diamond world takes radical steps to stop a pricing plunge
Get a lab diamond. It will end up costing around a quarter of the price.
chezelenkoooo··on Win-Vind: Vim key binder for Windows
I haven't used windows in a long time but I love seeing features like this.
chezelenkoooo··on The Tech Gold Rush Is Over. Where's the Next One?
I mean, even if you take one tenth of those figures that's still 18 million people.
chezelenkoooo··on Things I wish I knew before moving 50K lines of code to React Server Components
Ah yes, the "server side rendering is really simple to build" crowd has arrived. Let's reduce the nuance of the argument by insulting new Devs!
chezelenkoooo··on Coming Soon: Fedora for Apple Silicon Macs
Everyone mentioning multiple apps such as "rectangle" or "amethyst" doesn't really understand how restrictive they are compared to tools like i3 or sway.

Window snapping, tiling and screen navigation is a HUGE deal. I basically don't use my mouse when programming in Linux and it's really difficult to do the same on Mac.

chezelenkoooo··on Functions and algorithms implemented purely with TypeScript's type system
Maybe your code is ok and understandable to you when you first write it, but when someone else has to work on it a month or two later, a lack of types makes it significantly more difficult.

It sounds like your process is a bit of a drag on you and I think you should improve it.

chezelenkoooo··on Drastic increase in Tor clients from Germany
I think you're thinking of blockchain
chezelenkoooo··on LLMs are not greater than the sum of their parts: researchers
What? No, I think it'd be great! I'd love to be able to say out loud "kube get pods pipe grep service" and the output to be printed on the terminal. I _don't_ want to say "Hey Google, list the pods in kubernetes and look for customer service".

The transfer between my language and what I can type is great. It starts becoming more complex once you need to add countless flags, but again, a structured approach can fix this.

chezelenkoooo··on LLMs are not greater than the sum of their parts: researchers
Totally guessing here but this would be a property that gradually appears as the model size increases.

With a tiny model you would get gibberish and with ever increasing models the response would increasingly approach a coherent answer to a finally correct answer.

chezelenkoooo··on I’m a doctor: Here’s what I found when I asked ChatGPT to diagnose my patients
The author touches on this in the very article linked. His point is that the low accuracy answers provided by ChatGPT risks reinforcing the doctor's biases and then not thinking outside the box. In other words it risks the doctor blindly trusting the AI too much.
chezelenkoooo··on Show HN: BBC “In Our Time”, categorised by Dewey Decimal, heavy lifting by GPT
I'm sure I remember Zuckerberg talking about this very thing in one of the Congress interviews he had.

I don't disagree with you, the content producers are always going to outnumber the moderators by a massive margin. It makes reasonable moderation very difficult.

chezelenkoooo··on Europe's big tech bill is coming to fruition
I think that's besides the point. Shouldn't you have the option of deciding whether your data is sold or not?
chezelenkoooo··on The Age of Advertising Must Come to an End
How can you possibly say this when google is making billions purely from advertising? One of the biggest companies in the world, whose biggest revenue stream, by an absolutely massive margin, and still growing, is ads.

I think you forget that we live in a bubble here and we do not generalise out to the rest of the population.

chezelenkoooo··on Open source solution replicates ChatGPT training process
I've used it for regex and creating basic python scripts that I can then extend. I've found it very useful for these things.
chezelenkoooo··on Open source solution replicates ChatGPT training process
Your entire post is questionable the moment you write something like "Google as we knew it is already dead".

Yeah, no.

chezelenkoooo··on Google layoffs Jan 20, 2023 – California WARN public records
It's a case by case basis and thinking you can apply a general rule across the organisation is completely misguided. I don't want to rehash the same arguments so just read the rest of the comments.
chezelenkoooo··on Rogue antibody and mystery pathogen behind AstraZeneca blood clots: study
Did you try googling?

The chance of death is low for those up to 50. But vaccines even further reduce that.

Here's another one with a bit more of a specific breakdown

chezelenkoooo··on The United States of America vs. Samuel Bankman-Fried Indictment [pdf]
Is it really Tom Brady's responsibility to vet each and every one of his commercial offers? That seems unsustainable. He would have needed some pretty intimate knowledge of the crypto world along with the inner workings of FTX to know that it was a fraud. To me it seems like placing too much responsibility on people who shouldn't bear that responsibility.
chezelenkoooo··on Ask HN: Is Vim still worth learning?
Yeah I disagree with the shade on vim motions. I'm trying to use them everywhere and even went looking for a vim and slack integration.

In fact I believe the motions are way more universal than any particular editor's key bindings. There's plugins and extensions for vim motions in almost all editor's I've used barring some database specific UIs.
