cheschire··on The Agentic Loop: Three loops in a trench coat
I appreciate you seeing through my confusion and giving me a concrete response.
cheschire··on I tricked Claude into leaking your deepest, darkest secrets
“My voice is my passport. Verify me.”
cheschire··on Dependabot version updates introduce default package cooldown
And then who watches the watchmen? Chains of authority can always be questioned. I think GP is suggesting that the package management platforms themselves provide the verification if they want to stay in the business of being the de facto source.
cheschire··on I tricked Claude into leaking your deepest, darkest secrets
But if an attacker gets your fake birthday and uses that to successfully reset credentials on another site that uses the same fake birthday?

At some point it becomes your birthday of record as far as the internet is concerned. Doesn’t matter what the actual record says.

cheschire··on The Agentic Loop: Three loops in a trench coat
Oh, interesting.

So am I understanding correctly then that the tools that come with monthly subscriptions are inherently limited and unable to expand to what the article describes in the outermost loops?

cheschire··on The Agentic Loop: Three loops in a trench coat
The article describes API calls using code. How does one use these loops in Claude Code (assuming you mean CLI not cloud) or Antigravity (assuming you mean agy not the IDE)?
cheschire··on The Agentic Loop: Three loops in a trench coat
Anyone have suggestions on implementing loops with a basic $20/mo subscription to claude or gemini? Any blog posts recommended?
cheschire··on The Tower Keeps Rising
Douglas Adams basically predicted Wikipedia on smartphones, and I suspect we are only a few years away from babelfish ear buds.
cheschire··on Former NOAA employees built Climate.us to preserve climate data and resources
They’re using the broadest definition possible, where tax dollars are generally meant to provide public service.

But at that point you’re just in an argument over which public services are most important to whom.

So then implying that tax dollars should be used instead of donations is wrong.

cheschire··on Former NOAA employees built Climate.us to preserve climate data and resources
> The whole thing relies on donations to keep it afloat, which is really what tax dollars are for.

Hmm. I don’t believe that’s accurate.

cheschire··on Under federal rule, colleges must leave grads better off or lose financial aid
No need to be defensive. If you were unaware of the irony before my comment, then my point was that there may be more still for the education system to offer.

This isn't directed at you specifically. I am making a broader connection to the need for higher education even when people feel it has no immediately obvious value. Sometimes the things learned in school are more subtle than what's on the syllabus.

cheschire··on Under federal rule, colleges must leave grads better off or lose financial aid
"we seen during"

This was an intentionally ironic use of poor grammar in a statement against organized education, right? Hopefully?

cheschire··on How to Build a Minimal ZFS NAS Without Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS (2024)
Great business opportunity there. Make a free service that sends AI generated birthday notes to people. All the user has to provide is the other persons birthday.

People cannot be relied upon to provide accurate birthdays but nobody would suffer the social faux pas of an incorrect birthday congrats note. Nor would they send it to a spam catching email, but rather are guaranteed to send it to a regularly checked address. They know the persons birthday after all.

You can then sell high quality birthday information correlated to contact information to ad agencies.

Fuck this current internet. So dystopian.

cheschire··on Microsoft Can Track Users via a Windows Device ID
Well they can’t use that to track users of Linux.

I was a big fan of Microsoft ten to fifteen years ago. I’ve since transitioned my whole family off Microsoft products now over to Linux, Apple, and proton. Edit: and Brave.

I really thought their corporate culture would’ve changed after the late 90’s but I guess this is a good lesson for founders. The culture you build into your company will likely outlast your tenure.

cheschire··on AI: The ROI Runway Could Be Long Outside the Tech Sector
Ehh, it’s a late AI summer at best. You still need the economic leaves to finish falling off the trees before you can get to the true start of winter.
cheschire··on I don't maintain my homelab, it maintains itself
And here I am the next day wondering why the heck I don’t just set the cron jobs for 1am

Sometimes having people ask the obvious questions can cause some useful reflection

cheschire··on Flavor Graveyard
So not Tolkien ages?
cheschire··on I don't maintain my homelab, it maintains itself
Yeah lol I considered it but i hit my token max so often that I didn’t want to be deep in a development cycle and suddenly have to wait 4 more hours because my maintenance chat boiled over.

So keeping the trigger manual at least gives me the ability to skip it while I work.

cheschire··on Single Dose of Frog-Derived Gut Bacterium Eradicates 100% of Tumors in Mice
Mice tumors, the scourge of humanity.
cheschire··on I don't maintain my homelab, it maintains itself
The headline: “It's true. I don't maintain my homelab… it maintains itself.”

So using AI is not the point of the article but neither was it mine.

My point was I also attempt to implement homelab automation rather than manual maintenance, and I listed a few things that are onerous to do regularly by hand just like the article.

But I totally expected people to just skim my message, see “AI” and dismiss it, so I’m not terribly upset.

cheschire··on I don't maintain my homelab, it maintains itself
I suspect my approach is even more controversial… I just open Claude code and type /routine-maintenance and it reads the skill file, logs into all my systems on my home network and runs updates, validate backups are still healthy, update any docker images, checks SMART stats, reviews some logs, and then fires off an email using brevo to tell me any future maintenance concerns I might have.

Edit: zero minutes old already downvoted.

cheschire··on GLM 5.2 beats Claude in our benchmarks
Not to mention the three separate dedicated 15A circuits you would need to have installed in order to run the 3x 2000W power supplies running ideally at no more than 1400W sustained load each. And definitely would need 200A service to the house if you have a family living there with you.

But hey you could save on heating?

cheschire··on I used Claude Code to get a second opinion on my MRI
I was a very early adopter in my circles with AI and I shared it with many people. Strangely, I seem to be the most skeptical about AI in my circles as well, but because I was the gateway for a many folks, they want to come back and share their experiences with me.

And it's so much like listening to someone in a church congregation sharing their experiences with god. Clear and obvious gaps are hand-waved away exactly how you're describing.

cheschire··on Nearly half of LG smart TV apps contain residential proxy SDKs
I only use one remote. The tv remote. I just enable HDMI-CEC

I keep the Apple TV remote around for extremely rare situations where that doesn’t work but even then, my cell phone has a built in Apple TV remote as well, which makes it even less necessary

cheschire··on U.S. science is in chaos
To the beach. To relax. Don’t become a burden on other countries. Learn the language first if you really must move.

Edit: Interesting how controversial my take seems to be. I’ve seen votes on this post go up and down multiple times. Why only vote? Reply!

cheschire··on U.S. science is in chaos
It’s a fine analogy and you’re just showing off your game of thrones knowledge.
