They are running out of money.
charlieyu1··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
It’s more about not being able to hire PhDs for $50k a year, tell them it’s a lot of money and make them work Asian hours and efficiency
charlieyu1··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
20 years ago my department head was saying homework was pretty pointless because everyone was copying each other. They assigned a token percentage for homework so at least the students were submitting homework.
charlieyu1··on Zelensky says Russia has widened attacks to hit Ukraine's data centres
I don’t know, it seems to be the other way now. If US contributed more to Ukraine maybe US wouldn’t had struggled with drone wars in Iran
charlieyu1··on California is chasing wealth that has feet
If you kill demand, you kill economy.

And I’m very surprised nobody mentioned cooperative tax in this post. Taxing cooperative profits is the simplest and fairest solution.

charlieyu1··on Can the US Build a DJI? A Teardown of Two DJI Drones
That the energy needed to keep a large metal box weighing a ton or more afloat the entire time. At this point a helicopter is cheaper.

Except it was already down pre-LLM or pre useful LLMs.
charlieyu1··on Teen Social Media Bans Miss the Point
I grow up with ICQ where you can click a button to talk with a random stranger. Boomers were crying about Internet addiction.

30 years later, I’m fine and the boomers are the ones getting addicted to fake stuff on the internet.

charlieyu1··on RSA-896
Except you can do it with CPUs as well for much cheaper.
charlieyu1··on RSA-896
I've done a fair amount of heavy computing now. Integer factorisation is not something you can really improve with GPUs. This sounds extremely wasteful, a bunch of cheap CPU cores would do just as well with much lower hardware cost and electricity cost.
charlieyu1··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
This has to be the funniest thing I’ve read for a while. China still has two exchange rates.

charlieyu1··on Romania soccer introduces black card to 'combat abusive behaviour' from parents
When a ref abandons a match it is up to the board to decide what to do with the result. In senior games often the offenders get a lost. Plus this is youth games so results matter less.
charlieyu1··on Everyone should slow down AI development except for me
Like most pressure groups and HR departments, they create shitstorms to justify their existence.
charlieyu1··on Killing with a car costs $1.6M, California requires drivers to carry $30K
So it is the employer who has to pay for it, not other citizens.
charlieyu1··on Killing with a car costs $1.6M, California requires drivers to carry $30K
So why is someone who is not an employer, subsiding other employers in their purchase of employee insurance?
charlieyu1··on Killing with a car costs $1.6M, California requires drivers to carry $30K
This is a very different thing though. People ordering from Amazon already paid for the insurance for the trip with delivery fees. And I don't think you can bring up public services as an example. Non-drivers should not be paying for damages caused by reckless drivers, the drivers should pay for insurance, especially when drivers are the same group of people who complain about fundings of public transport.
charlieyu1··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
I’m old enough to remember when people said computers would do all jobs 30 years ago
charlieyu1··on More questions about whether researchers can trust OpenAI with unpublished math
Looks like a lot of insecurity from OpenAI. At the top level researchers move around at their own will, you don’t decide who they work for
charlieyu1··on Researchers Spot Fake Ancient Pottery Using the Earth's Magnetic Field
Forgery is so ancient that we have forgery ancient items made in ancient times
charlieyu1··on Copyright does more harm than good and should be abolished
probably still better than You won’t download a car propaganda
charlieyu1··on DHS 'Predictive Policing' Unit Is Analyzing Americans' Financial Habits
Call me old school, but money should be as free as the bank note - untraceable and anyone getting it could use it freely.
charlieyu1··on DHS 'Predictive Policing' Unit Is Analyzing Americans' Financial Habits
Why should our rights be restricted when law enforcement is impotent?
charlieyu1··on DHS 'Predictive Policing' Unit Is Analyzing Americans' Financial Habits

Why is the model playing poker
charlieyu1··on Initial effects of AI technology on employment look positive
I worked in a country for 10+ years where the economy was not that good. The only place with true guaranteed continuous employment are government services or adjacents. Anywhere else you would see layoffs, closures or salary stagnation.
