It won't die. AI is to stay here. All the companies that are building the infrasturcture and the ones that are giving the APIs like Anthropic and OpenAI won't die probably because the world needs them right now. The ones to die would be the startups who are using AI to build something.

The only way you can get good at system design is by actually designing and implementing a system in your current job. Trust me, I have been trying to learn this from books but it doesnt help at all. But since one year I have been working indepedently on a new project where I had to make a number of design decisions that helped me learn a lot. DDIA is very good resource but doesnt help you design big systems. Only your current work can help you there.

So keep looking for new projects are your current job where you can lead a project on your own.

I had to decided to leave my first startup job and go Singapore work for a big firm. I was told by my cofounders not to leave because they thought they would be billionaries in a few years. In a few years this startup and 3 other startups I joined shut even before they could earn their first million

21/22 made it very easy to get into FAANGs but that was a false reality. But now it would be a dream for many because of the competition. Working in a FAANG even for just 3 years is enough to retire back in home country because 3 yrs of that FAANG salary takes care of the whole family for generations.

I think most other companies do that with the expectation that you will get addicted to the product during the trial period and uncancel the subscription. I have no idea why apple does that. But I hv always felt that they are losing out on eventual subscribers.

The growth of my learning and experience was too slow while in India. I was unlucky but after coming here I learned hell of a lot about software engineering and infra stuff. Money is good but only after you go back to India and while you are living here the standard of living is very very poor as compared to when I used to earn in India. But as long as I get to learn and contribute and get experience in what I wanted I am all good here. I want to go back but only when I know that I have a better opportunity back than here. I miss my country too. The culture is here is just too weird with all the shaming and the tipping culture. People get hurt with the slightest thing here in US which is so so wierd.
