chaostheory··on Alberta to hold referendum on whether to remain in Canada
Disagree. For decades, Alberta has been subsidizing Quebec and other no productive provinces. They’re sick of it. It also doesn’t help that Canada is a confederacy where the provincial governors have more power than your PM.
chaostheory··on Alberta to hold referendum on whether to remain in Canada
If Trump didn’t threaten annexation of Canada, this would have a much higher probability of success. It would also likely lead to Alberta becoming the 51st state
chaostheory··on Earth is now heating up twice as fast as in previous decades
They can champion natalism all they want but when they’re against things like remote work, which helps with affordability and time for a personal life, they’re not helping declining birthrates
chaostheory··on Earth is now heating up twice as fast as in previous decades
Population decline from collapsing birthrates should help.

Would the drop be due to our immigration policies?
chaostheory··on Distributing Mac software is increasing my cortisol levels
That era ended ended years ago.

MS Office is available for Linux and Linux is an option on Azure. Even some new games from the Xbox division are officially sanctioned to run on Linux.

There is no longer a good reason to stay in a walled garden for your personal machine. The author should just make the switch if staying in the Apple ecosystem, or any other closed system, makes him really unhappy

chaostheory··on I have seen the dystopian future of elderly care
I feel that this is the case in most developed countries unless you can afford to pay $10,000 - $20,000 per month for an upscale nursing home.

Robots might make it a little less terrible.

chaostheory··on Distributing Mac software is increasing my cortisol levels
Sure, but the more barriers there are the better because it still reduces the number of threats. That’s why people choose to rent walled gardens. Otherwise, Linux would have higher adoption even among our crowd.

If you really value freedom over everything else, I don’t see value in putting bad bandages over closed platforms. Might as well just switch to an open one.

Unlike the East Coast, we have earthquakes and more NIMBYs
chaostheory··on David Attenborough's 100th Birthday
> I wish humans would come together to re-wild more of the earth. Restoring wild nature and cutting emissions is the only way to really restore natural ecosystems. We're nowhere close to doing that.

A big issue is cost and economic opportunity. For example, a lot of land in the SF Bay Area cannot be developed. This is great for the environment, but not so great for housing costs.

Long term, it’s likely worth it to save the environment, but let’s not ignore its immediate cost to everyone besides the upper class.

Yeah, the emulator support is nice
chaostheory··on Agent Skills
I can see why this would seem to be “snake oil” logically. However, this approach does work in reality. Your comment just shows that you seem inexperienced with using generative AI.
chaostheory··on Porsche will contest Laguna Seca in historic colors of the Apple Computer livery
This is a strange sounding title. It sounds like Porsche was fighting against Apple’s colors in Laguna Seca, when instead they’ll be used on Porsche cars.

Gen Alpha and younger generations need to become adults with jobs before VR becomes a success. They are the only demographic who’s open to VR
chaostheory··on OpenAI CEO's Identity Verification Company Announced Fake Bruno Mars Partnership
They didn’t get scammed. The CEO just didn’t know the difference between 30 seconds to Mars and Bruno Mars.
chaostheory··on An AI agent deleted our production database. The agent's confession is below
MCP fell out of favor due to token usage, but I’m starting to feel that by default AIs should only have access to MCPs and not APIs. We can make MCPs deterministic, but not the AI models. It’s only a matter of time before they hallucinate and lie.

chaostheory··on US special forces soldier arrested after allegedly winning $400k on Maduro raid
That’s until food and energy price increases become unbearable for the masses. While the first test is already here with gas prices, we’ll have the second test soon in the form of 50% price increases on food in developed Western countries.

chaostheory··on The team behind a pro-Iran, Lego-themed viral-video campaign
No one cares about who made these videos in the US. The bigger issue is why are we engaging in a ground war in Iran when it doesn’t really serve US interests? Everyone on both political spectrums in the US can see why it benefits Saudi Arabia and Israel, but not the US.

We’re using precious resources like missiles that we will need in the Pacific theater in next 1-2 years

chaostheory··on Why Switzerland has 25 Gbit internet and America doesn't
Yes, the duopolies are due to regulatory capture in the US.

A lot of ISPs need permitting that they will never get in order to enter a new market/location.

chaostheory··on In Japan, the robot isn't coming for your job; it's filling the one nobody wants
1. There is only so much you can pay the people doing the kind of work like cleaning the Shinkansens or manning the 7-11's because it affects customer costs. i.e. There's a point where you increase the salary of 7-11 workers that it causes a $2 fried chicken snack to inflate to $10 that customers will refuse to buy

2. Even if there was magically enough money and time to retrain people, they would still be short of workers.

Back then we had approval from our coalition. We also shared the spoils, which the Russians noted.

Also, none of the Bush’s ran on an “America First” isolationist political campaign. Even own base is fracturing because of this.
