chaostheory··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
All of Google’s models prioritize speed over quality and correctness. That may be great for search but not so good for hard work.
chaostheory··on Deutsche Bank becomes first foreign yuan clearing bank in Europe
EVs don’t need renewables. What makes them attractive despite the bad marketing in the West is that they can be powered by anything that can create electricity, like coal; which is something China has a lot of

The transition to EVs is key to the national security of many countries that currently do not have energy security like China and even most if not all member countries in the EU.

chaostheory··on Grok Bot
It's a great idea, but the problem is with the latest versions of Grok. It's like xAI copied Google's Gemini. Grok now minimizes its effort. Like Gemini "Pro", it's become a flash model that provides shallow answers quickly.
chaostheory··on The “mechanical miracle” that ruined Mark Twain’s life
Didn’t he blame himself for her death because it supposedly happened because he had to go on the road again in order to pay for his debts?
chaostheory··on Stop Killing Games: It's time to sue Sony, join us
Nintendo does not sell hardware at a loss. That's one of their quirks.
chaostheory··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026)
I feel the challenge of typing applications is boredom. It's hard to keep using them. The only ones I kind of keep going back to are games. There serveral modern adventure games and a real time strategy game (I don't remember their names) and then there's Typing of the Dead.
chaostheory··on A Tome of Forbidden Technologies
I feel that another issue the author ignores is that vinyl records degrade and their sound quality suffers. I vaguely remember that a typical vinyl record has about 8 “perfect” performances before its playback qualify steadily declines. This isn’t an issue with digital media.
chaostheory··on Changes at Google DeepMind: Demis Hassabis from CEO to Chair, Jeff Dean departs
It’s a good substitute for search, but its effort is so low that it’s near useless for work compared to the other frontier AIs. Gemini focuses so much on response speed that everything else suffers.

Mike Judge needs to do another Silicon Valley series on HBO
chaostheory··on Atlassian Rovo Exfiltrates Data, Bypassing Controls
Well, until everyone realizes that prompts aren’t guarantees, these posts are still useful.
chaostheory··on Show HN: Isopolis – Isometric pixel map of SF
It would be nice to have a Google or Apple maps version of this. I would also love to see this while driving.
chaostheory··on BMW Spider-Man in-car advertising
You make it sound like there's no choice. Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura don't do it to my knowledge. Am I wrong?

EDIT Add Volvo and Genesis to the list of no ads

chaostheory··on Ron Gilbert started production on Thimbleweed Park 2
I like Maniac Mansion the best. The sequel wasn't bad either.
chaostheory··on The coolest use for the Vision Pro
I think you missed the fact that not even Apple could change the mindset of adults regarding VR.

I am referencing trends and past data, while you’re talking about an anecdote.

chaostheory··on The coolest use for the Vision Pro
These apps already exist in VR. There's even a few of them on the Meta Quest line of headsets which are also standalone. The issue is that most people, who are older than Gen Alpha, flat out refuse to use VR for various reasons so they're not going to be aware of any of this. It's just dismissed.
chaostheory··on Underwater oxygen loss threatens earth's stability, researchers warn
Well, we inadvertently stopped having as much children. That should help, but our current system economic systems can’t handle falling birthrates
chaostheory··on Claude Opus 5
Going on a slight tangent, given how bifurcated the economy is - we are only a couple of meals away from a Butlerian Jihad. It’s hard to see this in our bubble if you don’t actively try to break out of it once in a while.
chaostheory··on After wearing the Pebble Time 2 for two weeks, I'll never buy another smartwatch
The notifications mostly suck unless they’re related to your heart or oxygen level, though you can choose to turn off what you don’t want. It’s the main reason why I wear an Apple Watch even though I’m a big fan of Pebble; loved my Pebble Steel. The fitness trackers tied to Apple Fitness are also another big feature for me. It’s what keeps me wearing it despite the really terrible battery life where I need to charge twice a day.
chaostheory··on Sony Deletes a Bunch More Movies from the Accounts of People Who 'Bought' Them
I guess they want the masses to start sailing the high seas again
chaostheory··on Duskers, the scary command line game, is getting a sequel
The primary way to play Duskers is via scripting in a CLI
chaostheory··on Duskers, the scary command line game, is getting a sequel
AI, but not the ASI or AGI kind, which makes you worry about the present since you don’t need a “god in a box” AI to end the world
chaostheory··on The Anti-Mac User Interface (1996)
I feel that it’s time that we stop spending our focus on designing UX inside boxes, but we are in VR and AR winter at the moment.
chaostheory··on Train sim created by just one person is being called the best ever made
When the dev for BodyCam posted his initial streams, I thought it was fake. Also was a solo dev though I think he either has a partner or a team now
chaostheory··on Train sim created by just one person is being called the best ever made
The Stardew Valley dev did do everything himself though
chaostheory··on Train sim created by just one person is being called the best ever made
Unreal 5 is amazing with photo realism. Bodycam uses this feature well too
chaostheory··on Every new car sold in the European Union must include a driver monitoring camera
“protects EU companies from more competitive foreign companies”

Tbf protectionist laws are everywhere now including the US. Globalism is dying.

The spirit of the law was to protect people’s data from every entity including government bodies.

chaostheory··on Every new car sold in the European Union must include a driver monitoring camera
This is just more evidence that the GDPR was just a set of protectionist laws for EU companies.
chaostheory··on China sentences official to death for taking $325M in bribes
These are mainly political purges dressed up as “anti corruption drives”. Not ideal, but at least someone high up is getting punished compared to slaps on the wrist in the West.
chaostheory··on Odin, Wikipedia and engagement farming
That is obviously no longer the goal. It hasn’t been for years now. However, its original goal was to provide “every person on the planet free access to the sum of all human knowledge“.
chaostheory··on Odin, Wikipedia and engagement farming
I'm sure the Wikipedia mods have many great, valid reasons for deleting articles. Unfortunately for the ignorant masses, this has bad optics, since it looks like it runs counter to their goal of "cataloging all human knowledge".
