chambored··on Show HN: I Made a Website for Problems
This is only tangentially related, but I’ve seen a handful of projects with this same front end design. Does anyone have any insight or resources regarding this design system?
chambored··on Hundred Rabbits is a small collective exploring the failability of modern tech
Have you looked at their body of work? An embedded YouTube video does not negate their ethos.
chambored··on Chromium has over 1600 command-line switches
Any insight into what —? could be?
chambored··on Typst: An easy to learn alternative for LaTex
I believe you can run a command to point its font options to a directory.
chambored··on Typst: An easy to learn alternative for LaTex
I’ve been using Quarto for a few years now. It’s quite a breeze to use. Highly recommend to anyone looking to publish technical writing on their static site.
chambored··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
According to that link the most money they contributed to lobbying in the past 5 years was $600,000 most years around $200,000. That’s barely the cost of a senior engineer.

How does Glicol differ from Supercollider (https://github.com/supercollider/supercollider)?
chambored··on A Motherfucking Website
I appreciate the concept here, but I agree with your sentiment. It’s reminiscent of the crude as a personality type that was almost hipster popular.
chambored··on Omakub – Opinionated Ubuntu Setup
Sounds like my Nix setup!
chambored··on TTE: Terminal Text Effects
I could see this idea being used in a lot of the charm.sh products.
chambored··on TTE: Terminal Text Effects
The idea that anyone would use this during "common operations" is laughable, but as one offs during specific operations, maybe.
chambored··on Show HN: I've Created the First Artificial Memory (and It's Open-Source)
This site looks like so many other software sites these days. It’s a trend.
chambored··on Rabbit R1 source code [part 1]
I highly doubt that. TE has a strong reputation and their involvement in another company's product outside of their normal business won't impact their sales regardless of whether or not R1 is a flop or a ruse.
chambored··on Show HN: Using Google Sheets as the back end/APIs of your app
I set it up initially on Vercel, but now I use Firebase because I'm sure it'll be cheaper in the long run.
chambored··on Show HN: Using Google Sheets as the back end/APIs of your app
A couple of weeks ago, I set up this exact thing for a restaurant. Simple and free. I had app script build the site on updates. So they could edit it any time, it would trigger a rebuild, and redeploy as a static site.
chambored··on Show HN: Jampack – Optimizes static websites as a post-processing step
That's a fair point. There were certainly small discrepancies when I ran it multiple times, but I'll use the median metric moving forward.
chambored··on Show HN: Jampack – Optimizes static websites as a post-processing step
I've zipped it up and sent a link.
chambored··on Show HN: Jampack – Optimizes static websites as a post-processing step
This is exactly what I've been looking for. I had been using my own scripts with Sharp for image optimizations like this, but this eliminates the need for the that entirely and works much better!

I ran Jampack after building my Quarto static site and got a 32% smaller folder with no noticeable drawbacks yet. Here are my metrics before Jampack and after using PageSpeed Insights:

before Jampack:

- mobile: - 52 Performance - 73 Accessibility - 100 Best Practices - 85 SEO

- desktop: - 90 Performance - 75 Accessibility - 100 Best Practices - 82 SEO

after Jampack:

- mobile: - 49 Performance - 80 Accessibility - 100 Best Practices - 92 SEO

- desktop: - 85 Performance - 82 Accessibility - 100 Best Practices - 91 SEO

chambored··on Show HN: A user-friendly UI for viewing and editing Markdown files
Glow is great! Love all the charm.sh projects. Only gripe is that I don't seem to be able to use tab autocomplete with glow.
chambored··on Show HN: A user-friendly UI for viewing and editing Markdown files
It is a great editor. Your points are spot on. The vault-centric use of Obsidian is limiting, and has stopped me from using it as my main editor. I use it only for a single synced vault. All other md files are edited using other tools.
chambored··on Show HN: A user-friendly UI for viewing and editing Markdown files
If you haven't tried Obsidian, I would. It has the features you were looking for. The downside being it is directory (vault) based as well and doesn't really offer the ability to edit one off files.
chambored··on I Spent a Week with Gemini Pro 1.5–It's Fantastic

chambored··on Asciinema 3.0 will be rewritten in Rust
blazingly fast
chambored··on Rabbit: LLM-First Mobile Phone
My thoughts exactly. I'm willing to give it a try because it's exactly how I imagined a companion device for intelligent note taking. Given that it's a collaboration with TE, I trust the build quality. My only concerns rest in the lack of a subscription given the cloud reliance on the OS, and as I'm sure many others feel, security with a fledgling device and it's interactions as an agent of you is definitely an important consideration.
chambored··on Lapce Editor 0.3
I’ve really liked Lapce for the past 3/4 months I’ve used it, but there’s been a persistent issue that keeps me going back to Lite XL. Pasting huge blocks of text, think 80,000 characters long, breaks it to the point of not being able to open the same file again in the editor. Lite XL doesn’t care and it’s wicked fast with edge cases like that. If Lapce could manage that better, it would be my go to.
chambored··on Show HN: Kali – Scheduling Assistant for iOS
Just searching for “Kali” in the App Store yields countless applications about learning Linux, Ethical Hacking, Bash, etc.
chambored··on Shell using Fortnite, TikTok, etc. to convince kids fossil fuels are cool
I think they were just speaking hyperbolically…
chambored··on I applied to 250 jobs and timed how long each one took
This doesn’t seem to account for finding meaningful opportunities, and in my experience, that has been the more time consuming aspect of the process.
chambored··on Unity’s new pricing: A wake-up call on the importance of open source
But imagine having to do that if you owned the arcade game.
