I think I have the social skills to glide effortlessly from person to person but I still identify with a lot of points the OP mentioned. I prefer being with people but I sometimes feel so alone when I want to talk about ideas and tech. I wish I had the motivation to write more about these ideas and then I'd need to know where to find people who want to read (I guess here on HN but that also doesn't come easy). I'd gladly give up on these stupid parties with loud music and these annoying small talk social norms and just meet up with people and code or brainstorm. I try my best looking for Hackathons, boardgame nights and recently I rediscovered EA meetings(effective altruism). I'm not a genius, which is probably why I'm not flooded with interest from other people but I'm enthusiastic about ideas and tech and I'm struggling with being alone in that aspect in my day to day life.

This sounds very reasonable and it's the only comment I found in a see of people talking about how Telegram is doing this illegally. Would be curious to see how this turns out.

I'd actually prefer the focus to be having a better UI to change your display name for every space/room. What remains public then is very limited and that should be a much better experience than changing accounts every time (I use this heavily with Telegram Plus - 4 users and it's super annoying). I'm ok with my username being public...

I can second this, I love being able to answer quickly from my mobile (I type [actually swipe] faster on mobile). It's also amazing how the push notifications clear when read somewhere else, this is not to taken for granted, it's not implemented on most other chat apps and it's a huge advantage of Element imho, sometimes it's buggy¹ but it's easy better than not having it and only Telegram is better in this regard from my experience.

A company the size of Microsoft can not hide behind - "it's weekend we also need a break".

I assume a company this size has teams working around the clock, the question is the priority. I guess GitHub doesn't have a high enough priority which is very sad.

I understand it's humans but we're also humans and we managed to figure out exactly what's up and what's down and we even reported it very conveniently here on HN for the people at GitHub for free

A friend of mine tried together with me to start something similar to what you're describing but for people. We started in the city Bern in Switzerland but added the idea to a wiki hoping someday other people will copy it in other places around the world! Unfortunately it is in German but maybe auto translate is enough?

Sure! The call is for anyone who'd like to drop in, you or anyone else are very much welcome to say hi, listen in or bring up a topic. On the website there is a link to the pad which has a description of the agenda and the link to the call (Jitsi). We had some pretty technical discussions on calls but also casual chit chat or just general pr issues

So amongst many other things we are going to try connect (federate) two instances of Trustroots. We are also planning on starting a new community for folks looking for an alternative for warm showers as a fork of Trustroots, then we hope to federate the two. The relationship to upstream is pretty good and we are hoping to be able to contribute very soon to upstream and collaborate as much as possible, some of us are also on the slack for Trustroots and we have had very good and lengthy discussions there in relation to federation and also in general in regards to HospEx issues. In parallel we are very much interested in any other direction which might not involve Trustroots code, it just sounded like a great idea so we would would like to try it

I am very much still living this, Couchsurfing got more difficult to use and a lot of people don't use it because of the so called "pay wall" but luckily alternatives are there and will hopefully with more posts like this get more traction... I like Trustroots most

Mariha (@mariha:matrix.org) was contributing for Warm Showers Android App and with https://warmshowers.bike/ happening she kind of kick-started the whole project.

We got funding recently from https://ngi.eu and with that we start to work for the next generation internet.
