cgfjtynzdrfht··on Claude wrote a functional NES emulator using my engine's API
Trained on 1000s of NES emulators, it's not really impressive.

Github alone has +4k NES emulator projects: https://github.com/search?q=nes%20emulator&type=repositories

This is more like "wow, it can quote training data".

It's "source available" [1], not open source [2].

Words have meaning and all that.

cgfjtynzdrfht··on A Safer Container Ecosystem with Docker: Free Docker Hardened Images
Just hear me out.

What about a safer container ecosystem without Docker?

Podman solved rootless containers and everything else under the sun by now.

All docker is doing is playing catch-up.

But guess what? They are obsolete. It's just time until they go the way of HashiCorp's Vagrant.

Docker is only making money of enterprise whales by now, and eventually that profit will dry up, too.

If you are still relying on docker, it is time to migrate.

cgfjtynzdrfht··on Lobsters Interview
HN 15 years ago wasnt technical, it never was. HN is about startup business and sometimes a tech toy like whatever JS frontend is hyped this week.

The discussions are shallow and pointless, lots of actors arguing in bad faith and lots of commercial hype, lately mostly around AI to the point that the site is barely interesting for the tech-curious.

And then there's dang's moderation where he deletes comments or requires users to remove comments themselves to avoid being banned.

cgfjtynzdrfht··on WinApps: Run Windows apps as if they were a part of the native Linux OS
I think you are confusing PCI passthrough with enterprise IOMMU GPU support that's nowhere to be found in consumer GPU:s.

It's Windows, in a container.

cgfjtynzdrfht··on Google Revisits JPEG XL in Chromium After Earlier Removal
How quickly things turn. Hard to not support it given chrome wants to support PDF natively.
