cevn··on Inter-brain sync occurs without physical copresence during online gaming
I devote most of my competitive energy to Rocket League for this reason. Games are only 5 minutes long and you can actually solo carry. Also you don't have to re learn the game every 3 months when a balance patch hits.

edit: I know what you mean. A great League game makes it all worth it, but those seem to be maybe 10% of the games and the other 90% you are just trying to be a kindergarten teacher trying to keep everyone from going afk.

cevn··on Inter-brain sync occurs without physical copresence during online gaming
I just play ARAM now, it's less toxic than ranked.
cevn··on Not getting a new computer
I have to agree, it's like building legos except you're getting paid $1k to do it (saving on prebuilts!) although of course there can be good prebuilts as well.. but in my experience they're usually cutting corners somewhere.
cevn··on I love my GPD Micro PC
The Pinephone + keyboard fills this niche for me. I guess there could be an in between size w/ that and the Pinebook.
cevn··on Using the same Arch Linux installation for a decade
After a while I believe there were no more updates for Centos 7. What is impressive about this story is that I was able to drag it into the modern era with rocky linux 9 but it was a ... rocky transition. My biggest pain point was when the networking stack was broken and Yum refuses to do ANYTHING without loading sources from the network. I couldn't get around it without flash driving RPMs to the server..

The uptime of the machine was great on Centos, but it came to a point I was afraid to reboot because of the package changes that could apply.

edit: I think some software I was using was EOL'd just for Centos maybe also prompting the switch.

cevn··on Using the same Arch Linux installation for a decade
I tried to use Centos long term, that was a disaster. Ubuntu and Fedora both broke a few times but I was able to recover them. However, Manjaro / Arch feels the most stable in my experience.
cevn··on Librarian's Letter to Google Security
The same thing happened to me. Eventually I was randomly allowed in, no idea how.
cevn··on Teams is killing my Mac every day
Management wants you to make a cross platform app, but with the minimum "cost". Who is going to spend all that time making 5 good apps when you can make 1 shitty one instead? I guess what actually happened is cross platform tech advanced, but this ease of development has actually worsened the user experience.

Do you have suspend to ram with working audio when it comes back? That's my final hurdle.
cevn··on Apple Unveils M2
Asahi Linux. And it is awesome, the future is here. Just waiting for the GPU driver and ... suspend... and brightness and sound.
cevn··on Ford CEO says EVs will be sold 100% online with nonnegotiable price
I'm here to chime in on having very few QC issues on my model 3 despite having gotten it in 2018. Not sure where all the service nightmare stories come from, every time I have dealt with them they've fixed the issue.
cevn··on Ask HN: Favourite open source game?
The other day I modified the source to give me 3 blessed potions of gain ability to start. Then I realized that it's better to just update the character generation to allocate more stat points in the beginning. Then I realized that having high stats doesn't automatically make the game fun and went back to the main branch..
cevn··on Supersonic CO2 flow during champagne cork popping
Fascinating... I would like to subscribe to your newsletter!
cevn··on Ask HN: What game do you wish existed?
Thank you, Tribes is great... Shazbot!
cevn··on Using a "proper" camera as a webcam
That sounds unfortunate. After a few kinks at the beginning, I've moved to using my nikon z6 as webcam. The first kink was power delivery, I found a plug that goes into the battery slot.

After that everything works flawlessly.

cevn··on Solid-state cells will cut EV charging time and increase volumetric density
You also are forced to go to the gas station regardless of whether you go on road trips, so it's probably a wash. Can't remember the last time I went to one.
cevn··on PinePhone multi-distro demo image
Try Danctnix w/ sxmo or the other sxmo one, it works a lot better for me. Everything works predictably, just takes a little time to get used to.
cevn··on Robinhood reports 43% revenue decline
I wouldn't be surprised if a RH employee sold the info. Something similar happened to me with their "Robinhood Card" and many others. Fraudulent purchases being made when the card never left our possession. Either a database breach or their access controls are not good. Either way IMO you should not be involved with this company..
cevn··on Veloren is a multiplayer voxel RPG written in Rust
I am the greatest!
cevn··on My Pinephone Setup
The Original poster uses arch + sxmo as the UI. It has a GUI for upgrading packages, altho I rarely use it.
cevn··on Blender 3.1
The computer is an absolute beast, it compiles faster than my old desktop intel cpu and I just have M1 Pro or something..
cevn··on “Play-to-Earn” and Bullshit Jobs
I think I was banned during that wave in 2011 and only just recently got back into RS.

Back in the day I couldn't be bothered to gather the resources myself.

Now I'm the bot, but somehow I'm (sometimes) happier fishing sharks than being IRL...

cevn··on Ligatures in programming fonts: hell no (2019)
> Editors don't do that

VS code does it at least, if i'm interpreting you correctly. You can position your cursor in the middle of the ligature and change either side

cevn··on The timing of evolutionary transitions suggests intelligent life is rare
His source is probably the amount of time we've been dabbling in radio comms.

However if the aliens had a big telescope surely that radius would expand?

cevn··on Testing Phone-Sized Faraday Bags
Sounds like something in EU to me.
cevn··on Why Are Topre Keyboards So Expensive?
Haha, we're using the same keyboard. This one is pretty nice. Strange that you had quality issues tho, first I've heard with Topre.
cevn··on But What's Up with That ¥?
If you liked the HHKB you may like some of their other current offerings. My current KB is a Realforce TKL stealth black and it is awesome.
cevn··on Fedora 35
I remember at the time of setting it up Fedora was the logical choice because they had some of the first support for AMD new graphics card (RX5700?). It was quite stable on my other computer and I recommended it for a while.
cevn··on Fedora 35
It's an AMD GPU. Maybe I'll try updating it to 35 just for the hell of it, even though I'm sure it won't have an effect...
cevn··on Fedora 35
On the flip side, I've been using Manjaro for years without issue, but when I updated my Fedora 33 workstation to 34, KDE showed a black screen oh boot. No matter how hard I tried I was unable to solve this problem, so I will be skipping Fedora from now on..
