ceocoder··on WangNet – 1.8 MB, zero-dependency Numberwang adjudication in 11 languages
A non-number could be either a Numberwang OR a Wanganumb - this does depend on whether Yorkshire is a pudding or not.
ceocoder··on Ghostty is now non-profit

ceocoder··on IBM to buy HashiCorp in $6.4B deal
Once again, thank you 'mitchellh for Vagrant, I'm sure you have heard this many times before but it really changed the way we worked for the better in every way.
ceocoder··on Abstrusegoose.com Is Gone for Good
I used to read abstruse goose back in the day! Along with few other really cool web comics from back in the day - Julia Wertz had one called The Fart Party[0].

Thankfully someone saved snapshot of Abstruse Goose - https://web.archive.org/web/20150417182607/http://abstrusego... !

They were on a BREAK!
ceocoder··on We glued together content moderation to stop soccer pirates
I’m with you, including the F1 part, and I’m glad that Liberty Media hasn’t hiked up the prices in the US so far. Even with the $80/year, I still end up watching some races on ESPN because Sky’s broadcast rights won’t allow F1TV to show the interviews with pit wall, Ted/Karun and other small things… still miles better than all other sports.
ceocoder··on A CTO should be technical
I agree with that
ceocoder··on The voice of Utah's arches – Ambient seismic vibration sped up 25x
Yes! That's exactly what came to my mind!

ceocoder··on The old internet shows signs of quietly coming back
"technology is cyclical" -Dennis Duffy, 30 Rock.

Jokes aside, I do not know if this is me getting older and becoming more grouchy and/or some of the tools (Gmail, Google Search, macOS/MacBook <whichever>) we've been using for a while are becoming more obtuse and less user (or power user) friendly in name of <some product goal>

ceocoder··on Bolt founder on Stripe/YC
Well, in case if this matters at all. I truly enjoy how you ‘eastdakota and ‘Kentonv engage with this forum - whether things are going well or not, I’ve come to expect a level of honest, direct and transparent dialog from you all. Oh and you are a really good author - truly enjoyed your book.
ceocoder··on Gitlab Handbook's HN Page
How is it gaming the system to have clear guidelines that respect community rules and the spirit? Genuine question.
ceocoder··on Can you drill into a supervolcano to relieve pressure? (2016)

ceocoder··on That time I told my wife I wanted to quit my job
Oh hey Chris!

Good to see you here again, completely off topic follow up: did you or your siblings ever end up writing about work your father did with three letter agencies?

ceocoder··on Seed – A Rust front-end framework for creating fast and reliable web apps
My rational for using something like this:

I fully agree that toolchain you mentioned gives blazing fast initial devX, hot reload and everything. If that’s what you are optimizing for, it is a perfect solution.

OTOH when you want to optimize for long term maintenance, growing codebase that is safe and easy to grow, easy to refactor, easy to check for odd things. I’d lean heavily on something compiled and with promise/guarantee of safety every time.

In other words, it is all about trade offs and to each his own.

ceocoder··on Seed – A Rust front-end framework for creating fast and reliable web apps
My most sincere thanks to the author(s) for “Why Not” section. This level of self awareness and transparency makes me so happy; it takes so much guess work and unnecessary back and forth out of the discourse. Again - kudos!
ceocoder··on Norm Macdonald has died
I haven't clicked on it yet - I want to guess that this is the joke about Moth. Let's see if I got it.

[edit: yep it is :) - a virtual hug to you friend ]

ceocoder··on Ex-Googlers raise $40M to democratize natural-language AI
They should call it something that makes it clear how “democratic” they are and the fact they are in AI. Hmmm, like Open but about AI. I give up.
ceocoder··on 1password is considering a self-hosted option to store vaults
Not having to rely at all on someone else’s infrastructure- including ssl certs. Not worrying about credit card expiring or any pivots in business.
ceocoder··on Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley reaches one billion views [video]
A full commitment eh? That’s a pretty big thing - are there any circumstance where you’d be willing to break that commitment and give up?
ceocoder··on Voice clone of Anthony Bourdain prompts synthetic media ethics questions
Thing is, more I rewatch his shows, all of his comments about depression and anger have taken a really somber tone now given what we know. I wish someone was there with him to help him through through that time.

His death really affected me in a deep way I didn’t expect. I miss him so much.

ceocoder··on Voice clone of Anthony Bourdain prompts synthetic media ethics questions
Just quick context on the squid bit: it wasn’t Tony’s crew (zero point zero productions), it was the combination of local fixers/boat folks who wanted to make it look like they caught fish.
ceocoder··on Ask HN: Notion is withholding my company data, what can I do?
T-10 before founder shows up here and says something like, “I’m sorry that you feel this way, I’m going to personally fix this”. That will not go well. After about, say 5/6 hours of “reflection”, “soul searching”, “meditation” - they’ll offer a better non apology. Finally a day later, “we screwed up, we broke your trust and we own it”.
ceocoder··on Breeze Keyboard
a caveat about Freestyle2 - it is not ortholinear, meaning keys are staggered like most regular keyboards. Kinesis Advantage 2 on the other hand is split, concave, and ortholiner - highly recommend.
ceocoder··on Red Cross honors Igiugig woman for helping light runway during nighttime medevac
That’s fascinating! Care to share more about your experience living there? Alaska has always been a place with so much intrigue for me.
