cenhyperion··on Idea to App in 2 weeks
Don't see how this is at all related to the post.
cenhyperion··on Switch to HTTPS Now, For Free
>Is this referring to typical gzip compression in HTTP

Yes. It's a major vulnerability discovered in the past few months that significantly weakens the crypto.

cenhyperion··on Gmail service disruption
It's a mess, but on the flip side what could support do for you? They knew about it and I'm guessing every engineer on the team was working on getting service back online.

All they really can do is tell you "It's down. We're aware of the issue. We're actively working to resolve it."

cenhyperion··on My Friends and I Bought an Island
If you're not planning on living there permanently I don't see it as much of an issue. That said I'm used to living in cities where half an acre per person sounds like a huge amount of land.
cenhyperion··on New NSA Leak Shows MITM Attacks Against Major Internet Services
For what it's worth Moxie Marlinspike gave a talk a few years back about some of the major issues with SSL as it is and had an anecdote about how bad Verisign's security is including the fact that they had a major breach in which several certs were taken.

cenhyperion··on Eloquent JavaScript, Second Edition
"they will help with professional editing (which is sorely needed when a non-native speaker like me tries to write an English book"

Wow, I had absolutely no idea that Marijn wasn't a native speaker. I've always considered Eloquent Javascript one of the best written technical books I've read.

cenhyperion··on Linux vs. Bullshit
They're kind of everywhere now. I was introduced to them when I was living in Chicago 5 years ago.
cenhyperion··on YC Will Now Fund Nonprofits Too
As someone working for a nonprofit this makes me very happy. The world of a starting non-profit is surprisingly similar to that of a startup. :)
cenhyperion··on Yahoo showed us 30 days of logos. Here’s the one consumers liked best
Personally I don't think it will look good until they drop the exclamation mark from their name.

This is a great case study for why design by committee fails and why design should not be decided by the masses.

cenhyperion··on Facebook is bad for you: Get a life
Am I the only one that gets value out of facebook? It's a decent way to share the photographs I take and a pretty good way of organizing events with friends. That said, I almost never scroll through my feed as I don't get much value from it.
cenhyperion··on Calling the NSA: "I accidentally deleted an e-mail, can you help me recover it?"
There are plenty of people that desire money more than following their ethics.
cenhyperion··on No federal challenge to marijuana legalization in Colorado and Washington
This administration just has a history of broken promises.

War, marijuana, spying, etc.

cenhyperion··on HTML5 Piano
Oh awesome, I missed that! This one's better designed :)
cenhyperion··on NSA hacked into encrypted UN communications, leaked documents show
>This finding is a violation of trust and could result in the UN moving its seat from New York

Which is unfortunately the most that will possibly be done for this, if anything is done. It will be a slap on the wrist when the US is going to need its economy threatened to actually do anything about the NSA.

cenhyperion··on NSA hacked into encrypted UN communications, leaked documents show
How exactly do they plan to tell us that this is legal to protect us from "terrorists"? It's in direct violation of international law.
cenhyperion··on The $80 web development workstation
>The "de facto standard?" This view is probably common among programming hipsters but its hard to take seriously.

I didn't realize the entire web developer community was comprised of only "hipsters", whatever that word even means now.

cenhyperion··on HTML5 Piano
One of my friends coded up something like this, except you can play with the keys on your keyboard and it sounds like a piano. Very cool!
cenhyperion··on How Flow-Based Programming Could Save The Sanity Of Web Developers
Agreed. It's easier to teach someone python than it is to teach a programmer visual programming.
cenhyperion··on NSA paid millions to cover Prism compliance costs for tech companies

cenhyperion··on Don't Fly During Ramadan
You're honestly advocating more racial profiling and propelling us towards the state of racism, hatred, and paranoia of Israel? Really?
cenhyperion··on Don't Fly During Ramadan
Have you driven near the border? Driving through west Texas I was met by stop and go traffic for 5 miles. Middle of the desert. I kept driving and realized border patrol had blocked the interstate and was diverting traffic through a checkpoint. Hundreds of cameras and drug dogs everywhere. I drove up and the agent asked me if I'm a US citizen. Then I was free to go.

It's not that simple. It's very very hard to travel if the government doesn't want you to.

cenhyperion··on Tesla Model S achieves best safety rating of any car ever tested
Rather my car take the impact than myself.
cenhyperion··on UK Authorities Destroy Guardian's Hard Drives
Am I the only one that finds this part more Orwellian than any of the actual leaks? To me there's a fundamental difference (though I hate both) between collecting data, and attacking people who politically disagree with you and attempting to destroy data you don't like.

Book burnings general don't end well for the party in power.

cenhyperion··on Knowing When It’s Time to Move On
Every single article has a story similar to the one in this one of the guy working at 2AM trying to ship the product.

When you work 80 hours a week you're going to burn out. It doesn't matter how good of a programmer you are, it doesn't matter how dedicated you are, it doesn't matter how motivated you are. It's not sustainable.

The most talented people know how to budget out their time so they don't burn themselves out.

cenhyperion··on Happy 20th birthday Debian
I set up a web server with a friend. We had no idea what we were doing and it was wonderful.
cenhyperion··on The Tech Community Must Invest More In San Francisco
See the same problem in Austin, Texas. People that have lived here forever (justifiably) aren't thrilled with the fact that rent has gone way up as a result of the city's boom. But the very same people actively oppose the construction of new housing.

I really don't think people understand that if the demand increases, the way to keep the cost form increasing as much is to increase the supply.

cenhyperion··on The Tech Community Must Invest More In San Francisco
Yes. That's definitely middle class. Especially living in an expensive area like San Francisco.
cenhyperion··on Gmail Overhaul Has Marketers Saying 'Ack'
If me not immediately seeing promotionspam kills your business you have a flawed business model.
cenhyperion··on Gmail Overhaul Has Marketers Saying 'Ack'
Deal with it. My inbox isn't a marketer's property.
cenhyperion··on Happy 20th birthday Debian
I started hacking around in linux at 12 too!
