cendyne··on Why AI Sucks at Front End
"Pixel perfect" is about attention to detail and consistency. Margins, padding, or the combination of these inside other containers will stick out when they're not consistent.

Here's an example that I personally encountered: what if you have a <h1>Text</h1> and it has a certain left margin. Then another heading except it has a nested button component (which internally comes with some padding). Then the "Text" in both aren't aligned from section to section and it is jarring.

cendyne··on The RAM stick is dying, and the replacement is something most have never seen
Soon gone are the days of incremental builds. The water cooling enthusiasts will like it.
cendyne··on Why is the first C++ (m)allocation always 72 KB?
This was a fun little share. Thanks for writing it up!
cendyne··on Unpacking Cloudflare Workers CPU Performance Benchmarks
Absolute adoration for how this was published, broken down, and discussed. It really improves my trust in the workers team at Cloudflare.
cendyne··on Microsoft CTO says he wants to swap most AMD and Nvidia GPUs for homemade chips
I've heard its a mixture because they can't source enough in-house compute
cendyne··on Grok is now the most popular model on OpenRouter
Now that Cursor has moved towards a credits system, grok code fast is making the plan last while still being reasonable in inference time. GPT 5 and GPT 5 Codex actually moves my "amount remaining" bar in realtime while being incredibly slow.
cendyne··on Meta CTO explains why the smart glasses demos failed at Meta Connect
That wasn’t what I expected! It got me laughing though. Hopefully they do better so news and TV doesn’t trigger them too like Alexa at the beginning.
cendyne··on Anthropic agrees to pay $1.5B to settle lawsuit with book authors
Now how about Meta and their questionable means of acquiring tons of content?
cendyne··on Grok Code Fast 1
My experience with 'sonic' during the stealth phase had it do stuff plenty fast, but the quality was slightly off target for some things. It did create tests and then iterate on those tests. The tests it wrote don't actually verify intended behavior. It only verified that mocks were called with the intended inputs while missing the larger picture of how it is used.
cendyne··on Llama Fund: Crowdfund AI Models
Agreed. This is too meta-aligned to not end up in some legal spat later on when money goes through it.
cendyne··on Bash Strict Mode (2014)
If you ever try something like this with another bash-hackery tool like NVM, you will have a very bad time.
cendyne··on The DeepSeek Delusion: China's AI "Sputnik Moment" Was a Mirage
This article comes across as generated.
cendyne··on Anubis Works
That's what route-specific Anubis is for.
cendyne··on ArkType: Ergonomic TS validator 100x faster than Zod
I'd be very interested in how to replicate parsing like this. Slow typescript inference has stalled my own exploration into things like this.
cendyne··on Minimal CSS-only blurry image placeholders
I can't wait for the day when attr has this implemented. It would eliminate the need for so many inline styles
cendyne··on Playwright Tools for MCP
Interestingly it transforms the page into markdown for navigation.
cendyne··on “Vibe Coding” vs. Reality
I love this. Vape coding should catch on.
cendyne··on Mark Carney Is Canada's Next Prime Minister
What did they talk about that gave you this certainty?
cendyne··on 'I grew up with it': readers on the enduring appeal of Microsoft Excel
There was a day when Excel was used as a password manager. It might have been password protected. It might not have.
cendyne··on Secure Custom Fields by WordPress.org
It is as if Wordpress [1] is asserting that the original author is a danger to public safety. Their terms read: ...

To that end, we reserve the following rights: ... to make changes to a plugin, without developer consent, in the interest of public safety.

cendyne··on The Vala Language (2017)
Vala was super neat as it came out of the ElementaryOS line of work. Their holistic focus towards usability and approachability of a Linux distro was inspiring enough that I even supported them with my meager student developer income. Since then, I've moved to Mac and haven't dabbled much in desktop Linux machines. As it grew older and some things got broken up (like serenity and ladybird), the novelty-energy wore off and I looked away for years.

As a language, I hoped Vala would pave the way for a beautiful high performance application tool. Instead, we got Electron.

cendyne··on The Invisible Screen – An E-Paper Smart Display
It might take a few years to refine the manufacturing process in other factories under different management. There is certainly a lot of knowledge and equipment to replicate.

cendyne··on VMware is now part of Broadcom
I am also concerned about this. VMWare have been great stewards of the Spring framework / boot libraries.
cendyne··on Suits ignored IT's warnings, so the tech team went for the neck
"We need a test environment!" "We don't have the budget for it."

Months later, a student developer runs a delete query in production with the where clause commented out. Oops, an entire table got wiped. Well at least there are backups... except a background job noticed and quickly created 4 years of invoices and emailed every past customer to pay again.

A test environment arrived soon after.

cendyne··on Ask HN: Why does YubiCo need my private key?
An AES key is symmetric. Both parties need it for this cryptographic operation.

The OTP key is separate from other keys that enable WebAuthn.

Also, please don't use Yubikey OTPs. While they can't be brute forced like TOTPs, they can be phished. There are better technologies to implement.

cendyne··on Meta wants its open source AI model to be as capable as OpenAI’s best model
Alignment of large language models and machine learning is about shaping its behaviors to support the values of its maintainers and discourage behaviors that go against the same values.

Like, you can't get a positive response by asking it to write a phishing letter for you, and it will refuse to divulge information it might know which is considered personally identifiable information.

Unfortunately, the alignment applied since ChatGPTs launch has reduced its efficacy in other ways. While it behaves better, it may be less helpful or less accurate in the older models like 3, and 3.5 with respect to their debut.

cendyne··on Microsoft will let you uninstall more built-in Win 11 apps soon for less bloat
Was their generosity for gifting you candy crush turned away?
cendyne··on Ask HN: (How much) do you get paid for being on call?
I get half a day of vacation per week of oncall. It is awarded months after the fact due to manual spreadsheet tracking and HR processes.

That vacation is not eligible for pay out if I resigned.
