So you have already decided we all agree it is bad, and we want to provide you the rationale, huh? I would like someone tell me the formal name for this strategy in logic theory.
cell9840179419··on Front-end is harder than back-end
Ideally you should have no more than a dozen state driven components in a page. 1000 is a very large number for any state driven system such as React. Here are a few things. 1) use a custom spreadsheet component which manages its own state and you manage only one state 2) if not, use key to make sure you do not have a high component turnover on every event 3) provide file upload where they can create content elsewhere and upload to you

You are right. BE is declarative hence solid (pun) once put in place. FE is design, aesthetics, ease of use, beauty, culture, above all functional. Hence tougher.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: Are Scrum-Masters Useful / Worth a Full-Time Salary?
You should be worried about this company. These "scrumbags" are useless political roadblocks. They detest every developer and make them look like idiots so that they can never be considered for management, why, they cannot beat a manager who can also code.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: If China develops a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, what will the US give up?
In fact, this may be the most likely scenario. The China scientists have the advantage of the origination. Hopefully all research, not necessarily products, will be shared after the products hit the market, so that every country rich or poor will manufacture themselves. The pie is so large there will be enough money to be made by all companies involved, so they should not hesitate in sharing.
cell9840179419··on Ask HN: If China develops a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, what will the US give up?
One country vaccine will not have automatic approval for use in another country.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: How do you fall (back) asleep?
To understand the concept of sleep, we need to look at the concept of rest, autonomous nervous system, cortisol, and its regulators.

Source, Internet, disclaimer, not a medical or sleep professional. Use this only as hear-say.

Why do we need sleep - because we need to rest before our next conquest in life, which is tomorrow.

What our autonomous sympathetic nervous system does - it knows! It knows how nasty tomorrow is. We call this stress! Depending on the level of stress and ferocity or importance of the stressors, the nervous system decides that it is enough if you sleep for 3 hours in this time of personal emergency. So it wakes you up in 3 hours. But it is also kind! It produces cortisol, a pain reducing hormone so that, "hey my human, I woke you up in just 3 hours. So that you have 21 hours to solve our problems, so that we can have a happy future. Btw, it is painful, so I also spiked your blood with 500mg of cortisol so that you wont hurt". Sounds fair?

There you go. You are wide awake at 2.00 am, painless yet tired, nothing to do as the day hasn't started. Tossing in the bed.

Thus far we gave the definition of the problem.

What is the solution. We can go two ways.

We obey the brain. We get up, and do some meaningful work, and tell yourself, yeah, we did this so now my day is looking better. Then go to bed. The brain knows! So it lets you sleep another 3 hours. And you repeat. One day your problems will be really over. You sleep full night.

Second solution. Your problems may not be solved by you doing anything. Then, you do something to kill the cortisol. It is the baffle on which your brain is balancing your body. You knock it out. How? Vitamin C. It kills Cortisol. So take 5g of Vitamin C in drink form before bed. Take a drink of Vitamin C every time you wake. It should work. There are other Cortisol regulators, but none have the convenience, cost advantage and additional benefits of Vit C.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: Rewriting parts of website in react, thoughts and best practices?
Adding a new subsystem (30%) and bringing 90% of old in to react. Just plain convert did not justify the investment as our existing system is already written for perf. The only issue is the UI feels dated. It is Tomcat based.
cell9840179419··on Ask HN: Rewriting parts of website in react, thoughts and best practices?
React can be a way forward. But it won't automatically improve the perf. First take a look at your middware if you have decision making power on that. The slowness can be mitigated using microservices and graphQL. Without this enhancement, widget to widget, PHP/jQuery is hard to beat.

There are many ways to write react. Take a solid boilerplate like react-boilerplate. Then bolt a good dashboard template on it. Get rid of crazy stuff (redux etc) Use Material. Write simple Functional components using hooks and tie everything together.

When you are rewriting, let go some stuff that you don't need.

This would be like, high cholesterol may lead to heart disease 5 years from now.. atleast cholesterol can be cut, but yet to start cancer may not be stoppable.
cell9840179419··on Experimental blood test detects cancer up to four years before symptoms appear
Call me silly, but, methylation is a hallmark of aging as well. So all cancer patients would show methylation, but all methylation will not indicate cancer. If that were the case, cancer would be the only cause of natual death.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: Is it me or windows 10 slow as sh**?
One more thing, while hung, it occassionally throws up an ancient styled msg box that says "RPC failed". I have a suspension they are returning the slurs by citing my intellect and body parts.
cell9840179419··on Ask HN: Is it me or windows 10 slow as sh**?
Lol. I use both mac and PC. I have a theory. The more you curse at them the slower it gets. I think their voice asst captures the curses and slurs and assigns a cursometer rating. It determines how fast my windows works.

Since then I boot my pc and I say, I love my country, my God and microsoft (the other two are necessary to sound sincere). Since then things have felt better. It atleast stops the Belichek type of urges.

Seriously though, if your file explorer does not start, it helps to start the task manager and open a task in file menu, named explorer.exe.

I have such tips for mundane things like outlook or Chrome.

I have started believing that microsoft does not love me.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: How can one get rid of whole-body eczema?
I just remembered something. There is a drug called ivermectin. In my opinion it is a wonder drug. Recently heard it stops corona in its tracks.

There is a back story. Back in the day, I was living next to a guy who had horses and got bitten by a horsefly. Nasty as nasty sounds. I was also afraid if it had laid eggs under my skin. Then one night I had cold sweat!

Thought, this is it. I mean, this can only be that! Did some research furiously about the whole horsefly thing. Then I found, the horses are given something called ivermectin orally to protect from these guys.

So got hold of horse ivermectin (apple flavour) on Amazon and ate the tube for a week. Yeah..

It took out various other stuff of minor glitches and itches from my body.

I follow this ever since.

They are trialling this for eczema, atopic dermatitis, scabies, you name it.. they got you covered.

Just wanted to share the story, that's all.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: How can one get rid of whole-body eczema?
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, and I do not have eczema. The only medical advice I give is that everyone should get medical advice.

Having said that, time to time I get a skin condition of various types. You need to carefully analyse it. Only patient can do this self debugging.

Some pointers:

Check his blood glucose right at the onset of his flare-up.

Take an antiworm medicine and see.

Take a broad-spectrum antiviral and check.

Take an antiprotozoal( anti-amoeba) pill and check.

Add neem oil to the bath water and check. Better yet, take neem oil capsules and try.

Now..

He might be having a cytokine storm of sorts.. so take an immunosuppressant and check. How do you get the doc to prescribe this - don't know. Tell him it is for science.

There are some good herbs-

Aloevera Tinosporia Cordifolia Acalypha indica Datura Caltropis

The last two or quite toxic. Even herbals must be taken under a qualified doctor.

You know sometimes it is just water. Check it. Also wash the shadows :-) the shadows habor bad stuff and it spreads.

Finally Borax. Use a cup of this in bath..

Now some science. Consume any plant that has protease or protinease inhibitors. These plants are basically biotoxic. They protect themselves from pests using pi. If we eat them we can become cytotoxic. It will protect us from bad guys too as long as it does not spiral into a cytotoxic storm.

Good luck..

Remember: I am not a doc. Not even a quack. I hack for a living.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: Most life changing things that you bought?
I hear you. I knew it is a dishwasher, as I could clearly read it. But I didn't care 5 years to figure how to use it. It is also that they cannot clean after every type of cooking..
cell9840179419··on Why Birds Can Fly over Mount Everest
Back in the day, once upon a time bunch of toads valued their happy lovely pond of fish and stayed put. They turned out humans.

Some, valued freedom. They wanted to see what's beyond that blue yonder and where those white clouds came from. They became birds.

I regard birds to be vastly superior to humans in spirit and function. Say, what is our most proudest achievement, flying in a rocket? Yeah. They did that a million years ago.

Everything we do becomes completely irrelevant if we can become birds. Every thing. Just every thing. Completely irrelevant.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: How do I handle a $Ms windfall for the short term?
Do not trust anyone. Including your relationships and spouse.

Make three lists of items - things you will want for yourself rest of the life, things you need to live, and things you want to invest for the time after you. Examples for each list: a good house in a good place, a set of low risk investments that will give you 250k p.a. perpetually, invest in a durable enterprise that will outlast you.

Then go about living as if nothing had happened.

When it comes to investment, choose boring non-exclusivist models. Aka. avoid maddoxes.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: What robotics company would you start?
The big picture emerging from the Covid pandemic is, stop using biological interfacing. We need a mechanical firewall to survive!

The face mask is the symbolism for a larger meaning.

When humans became extremely toxic, tarnishing, targeting and frightfully self righteous omnivores, the nature has abhorred and grounded us.

Wake up and realize the big picture.

cell9840179419··on Ask HN: What robotics company would you start?
Personal Home Asst, who can: Pick things around and put them away. Switch off gadgets and lights when not in use. Make beverages on order or on time. Do laundry, and press the clothes Deweed the lawn or garden mechanically and grow plants and vegetables. Shave, wash and massage a human. Drive a human in an automobile. Watch humans for falling, vital statistics and changes in person's chemistry footprint.
cell9840179419··on Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer
I am afraid solution for a cancer so serious as this (let's not forget Steve Jobs died of this inspite of arguably endless resources) is not in information search. She needs a good doctor aside from her oncology team.

I have lost a colleague who sat 6 ft away from me at work, and 6 months younger. The end comes pretty fast. My heartfelt sympathies.

There is one variant which can be cured. Jobs had that actually. If she got that and it did not metastise she may survive. It is her best hope.
