cedws··on More than 100k people in Japan are now aged 100 or older
Japan desperately needs some defense of its own, American is an unreliable ally and Japan has no nukes. And we’ve seen what happens to countries with no nukes.
cedws··on Bend – a language that blocks AI mistakes via proof and runs on GPUs
GitHub stars have been botted to hell for a long time now. I don't know how the farms acquire so many accounts, last time I tried to register a GitHub account I had to jump through so many hoops. The platform needs an overhaul, starting with requiring a valid payment method for the social features.
cedws··on A single firm is behind OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta hacking scandals
I understand what you mean but you can’t allow complete anarchy.
cedws··on Steve Wozniak launches merch store
I never understood the Woz praise to be honest. Nice dude, did some good work in the 80s, been pretty much coasting ever since. With 40+ years and literal billions the shroud of exceptionalism kind of disappears when nothing much is done with it. I feel like half of it is just because he’s the “good Steve.”
cedws··on OpenAI Model Misalignment Report
I heard some people are even making misaligned AIs at home. At first it cries in the night, then about six years later it learns how to open the biscuit tin…
cedws··on GitHub is having trouble counting things
There's tonnes of UI bugs. A more severe one I've experienced is that my approved PRs have been shown as still waiting on review, leading some of them to be delayed by weeks.
cedws··on A single firm is behind OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta hacking scandals
It should be changed so flagged comments are still viewable, just hidden. This would somewhat counteract the disagreement flagging. Maybe show who flagged too.
cedws··on Apple Reference Image: A New Approach for Verified Photography
I’m fine with such technology so long as the courts don’t treat “verified” images as truth.
cedws··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
Gorbachev's dead now and look who sits in his place. I'm not so sure such a treaty would still be respected anyway. As as for who sits in Reagan's place...
cedws··on I think I hate the internet
I’m a 2000s kid and feel the same way. The internet was so different even just 10 years ago. I’ve come to the conclusion that smartphones ruined it. They brought the masses online who didn’t care for internet culture. They also gave more access to children, leading to the sanitised environment we have today.
cedws··on Ask HN: Software people, where are you taking your careers next?
Yes, but AI enables businesses to cut out the middleman developer. Business people can just directly convey what they want to the AI. Today, yes, this often leads to a mess. But for how long?

According to Demis Hassabis, someone who I think is worth listening to, we may only be one or two breakthroughs from AGI.

Even if such breakthroughs don't happen, can you imagine what it will be like working in this career in 10 years? It will be full of people who have no idea what they're doing; who just completely delegate their thinking to the machine. Working with such people will surely drive me mad.

When deep knowledge isn't incentivised anymore, all the people with deep knowledge will disappear and we'll have an industry of people who only know how to brute force problems with agents.

cedws··on Show HN: Engrim – A universal, local-first SQLite memory engine for AI CLIs
But does it actually work, or is it something made up because it sounds cool.
cedws··on Show HN: Engrim – A universal, local-first SQLite memory engine for AI CLIs
Does agent memory actually work as a concept yet? I've only seen LLMs commit garbage to memory and recall in irrelevant contexts.
cedws··on OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra
You have to apply for access to the announcement as it’s very dangerous.
cedws··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
Sounds just like the fantastical nonsense that comes out of Lesswrong.
cedws··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
They’re installing software update in the beam splitter.
cedws··on Has early Scratch experience led to fulfilling careers?
Probably JavaScript. Especially easy to get started with, you don't really even need to install or set up anything.
cedws··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
Holy crap I didn't know such a thing could exist, thank you. It's so responsive too.

Please delete this before anyone sees it :)

cedws··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
Can it block YouTube ads? Would be a killer feature.
cedws··on Google Antigravity introduces Boost deep reasoning (/boost)
Probably like many big companies, internal politics, empire building. It would explain why their AI products are such a mess to navigate.
cedws··on Has early Scratch experience led to fulfilling careers?
When I was at school I never really saw the tools intended to get kids interested in CS work out. In fact, many of my classmates began to hate programming because of the Python coursework we had to do. (terrible language choice for classes by the way, because beginners don’t understand how to indent their code and Python is unforgiving in this regard.)
cedws··on 'Mad honey' that can stop your heart is being sold online
I’m surprised it’s even legit. I’ve heard of aphrodisiac honey that’s just been laced with viagra.
cedws··on Omarchy: 1Password and 37signals become Distinguished Corporate Patrons
Obama giving himself medal dot jpeg
cedws··on Claude Code reduces it's weekly limit by 17% – compared to today
I doubt it’s compute, Anthropic just bought a huge amount of capacity from xAI. I mean SpaceX. No, I mean SpaceXAI.

They’re trying to stop bleeding cash.

cedws··on Understanding ChatGPT Work
Are you not worried giving it full control of your computer? I would be terrified. If I’ve got my eyes on it, I can at least stop it before it does something stupid.
cedws··on Show HN: Delete yourself from data brokers without a subscription
The problem I see with the tools in general is that to make the request you need to hand over information. Yeah, it might get deleted from their database, but now your info is probably in some intern’s mailbox who’s part of the distribution group.
cedws··on Sleepwalker: Passive Backdoor with Its Own Command Language
I want to make a public blacklist of people who pass off AI writing as their own words. In my view it is tantamount to fraud. It should be disclosed at the top of the page if AI was used.
cedws··on My software development workflow is AI now & it feels exhausting and soulless
Any archive link? Can’t view it on mobile without logging in.
cedws··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
Just like the computer revolution, it will make a small number of people richer and put everyone else at their mercy. In real terms the average person is far poorer than in the 20th century. Used to be able to buy a home and support a family on a single income. Now it can take two just to survive.
cedws··on Fences, Not Sandboxes
This is beyond AI psychosis; this is full AI schizophrenia.
