cdme··on Goodbye, Slopify
They also commission half-baked slop from session musicians for a fixed rate and then feed it into playlists to reduce the payouts due to artists.

Between churning licenses, AI and session slop, it’s not a usable platform nor one worth supporting. It didn’t even start as a music platform — it was advertising first and music was determined to be an affordable draw.

And the solution is? More privatization?
cdme··on Inconvenient truths about the fires burning in Los Angeles from two fire experts
I wasn’t aware the government owned SCE.

I’m not aware of any republican policies to address the issue. Last I saw they were complaining about ASL translators being available during news conferences about the disaster.

cdme··on Inconvenient truths about the fires burning in Los Angeles from two fire experts
That's not the fault of the party you're blaming it on. The utilities fail to do so and have (and continue to) face lawsuits and repercussions. If the state were to intervene with their operation further I imagine you'd take issue with that meddling.

It's certainly not caused by Delta smelt or a failure to rake leaves in the forest either.

cdme··on Inconvenient truths about the fires burning in Los Angeles from two fire experts
It's not. There are often limits on watering frequency and more folks are switching to native plants/drought tolerant plants.
cdme··on Why is homeschooling becoming fashionable?
I was referring to complacency as it relates to guns and the horrific violence inflicted with said guns.

Bullies are everywhere. One runs X. You deal with them.

I never saw any drug dealers or gangs and the rest of what you’re describing sounds like what I’d expect as a normal part of growing up.

One of our many societal shortcomings (or outright failures) is that we treat poverty as a moral failing, not with any sort of kindness, interest in understanding the root cause(s) or meaningful attempts to address the issue.

cdme··on Why is homeschooling becoming fashionable?
Yeah, I took advanced placement history and government. Things were taught clearly, factually and without bias.

Students aren't going to benefit from hiding inconvenient truths about this country's history and founding. We certainly don't need religion forced into classrooms either.

cdme··on Why is homeschooling becoming fashionable?
I went to public school (not in SF) but the only "wokeness" was historically accurate — erm — history classes. We didn't have books banned in the library or English courses either.

The lack of physical safety is a product of policy (or rejection of) by the same people whining about "wokeness".

Oh certainly. He has no interest in governing, he's interested in preserving (and assuredly) increasing the handouts subsidizing his businesses.

X is a political project being run at a loss. It's his blog, the remaining users are commenters.

cdme··on TikTok should lose its big Supreme Court case
Truth Social and Gab are quite similar, but smaller still. The intent here is clearly to punish foreign influence, not domestic and that's the first amendment carve out being used to push this through.

X, Truth Social and Gab are all malign (and arguably little better than 4chan or 8chan as homes for civil discussion) but are domestic in origin.

I'd rather wade into the ocean than join any of the above, but they aren't subject to the same legal carve out.

cdme··on TikTok should lose its big Supreme Court case
I suppose that'll lose them the case with the public but have no impact on the outcome of the case proper.
cdme··on TikTok should lose its big Supreme Court case
Has the government made that case? I'm indifferent to TikTok's fate, but I've only heard vague allusions, not a concrete case.
cdme··on TikTok should lose its big Supreme Court case
I'm not sure we should ban TikTok. I am sure we should pass proper privacy legislation, but lack the will to do so.
cdme··on Canada euthanasia now accounts for nearly one in 20 deaths
My grandmother developed vascular dementia and spent the last half decade or so of her live non-verbal. My grandfather had Alzheimer's and eventually forgot that she had passed. They were exceedingly kind and frugal and had a strong support system, but that doesn't make it easy.

I'm unwilling to judge anyone's decision. Old age can be awful depending on your circumstances.
