cdiddy2··on Cash payments above €3000 to be outlawed in Netherlands
No protests at all....
cdiddy2··on Coinbase Sued by SEC for Breaking US Securities Rules
If bitcoin is not a security, how could someone also create a non-security token like bitcoin? This seems very unclear
cdiddy2··on Tell HN: Google search partial outage while rolling out new search?
Yes. getting no search results only periphery data
cdiddy2··on We asked the SEC for reasonable crypto rules for Americans
well the CFTC says that it is a commodity https://decrypt.co/123032/cftc-chair-says-ethereum-is-a-comm...

and in 2018 an SEC commissioner gave a speech in which he said eth was not a security, but the SEC is doing all they can to muddy the waters on that https://cointelegraph.com/news/sec-seeks-to-keep-hinman-docu...

cdiddy2··on Coinbase issued Wells notice by SEC
The CFTC disagrees with that stance https://decrypt.co/123032/cftc-chair-says-ethereum-is-a-comm...
cdiddy2··on We asked the SEC for reasonable crypto rules for Americans
it seems that they disagree on ethereum https://decrypt.co/123032/cftc-chair-says-ethereum-is-a-comm...
cdiddy2··on We asked the SEC for reasonable crypto rules for Americans
it might just mean focusing more outside of the US. they just announced expanding into Brazil yesterday for example.
cdiddy2··on We asked the SEC for reasonable crypto rules for Americans
its already the case with el salvador and bitcoin. bitcoin wasn't really under question though for being a security so would need someone to make a smaller token legal tender
cdiddy2··on We asked the SEC for reasonable crypto rules for Americans
so having another country declare a crypto as legal tender makes it no longer a security in the US?
cdiddy2··on We asked the SEC for reasonable crypto rules for Americans
they have not been registered with the SEC. both are leaderless and therefore lack the ability to register with the SEC
cdiddy2··on SVB chief pressed Congress to weaken risk regulations
libertarians wouldn't have a federal reserve raising interest rates at such a high pace though.
cdiddy2··on Coinbase Launches Base
Most layer 2s do right now. That is not how they are meant to be though. A true layer is completely non centralized. That is the whole point of the fraud proofs. The ideal end state is stage 2 described here https://ethereum-magicians.org/t/proposed-milestones-for-rol...
cdiddy2··on Vinyl Chloride and the Ohio Train Derailment
It can be made on site where it is going to be used. Generally combined with a manufacturing plant
cdiddy2··on Japan: the harbinger state
Fitting day for this to be posted given this article https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-64373950

"Japan's prime minister says his country is on the brink of not being able to function as a society because of its falling birth rate."

How Japan handles this will either tell the rest of the world how to do it or how not to do it. Lets hope they figure it out

cdiddy2··on Genesis Filed for Bankruptcy
To be clear none of this is defi, its all just traditional borrowing and lending. Aave pays 3% on USDT right now and lenders there are doing fine in defi
cdiddy2··on Google to reduce workforce by 12k
Ya basically people will feel they are getting a pay cut, and since the higher you go in the company the larger percent of your salary is from RSUs those are the people most likely to be unhappy. You potentially lose your high level core employees while entry level are much less affected

edit: this graph shows how much of your compensation is stock by level at google https://imgur.com/a/wlpa6Wm

cdiddy2··on Google to reduce workforce by 12k
Cost of employees has gone up as stocks drop due to such high RSU compensation. Stock is 40% off its highs which means they have to make up that difference in either cash or more stock, and neither look good to investors at the moment so smooth the financials 10% layoffs is the go to for large tech here.
cdiddy2··on Genesis Filed for Bankruptcy
ya I don't think they were a ponzi themselves but they lost money to both 3 arrows capital and in the ftx collapse.

cdiddy2··on Hot Wheels are one of the most inflation-proof toys in American history
That is funny cause as a kid in the 90s getting a matchbox instead of a hotwheels was a real downer. They were just worse quality.
cdiddy2··on Do not rug on me: Zero-dimensional Scam Detection
there are over 12,000 OTC stock tickers, these are mostly scams. I know Schwab allows OTC trading. The NYSE+Nasdaq combined also have around 12,000 tickers. So 50% of the things available on Schwab are scams.
cdiddy2··on FTX faces potential hack, sees mysterious outflows totaling more than $600M
your definition includes stocks. I suppose you might be right that stocks are a ponzi
cdiddy2··on FTX faces potential hack, sees mysterious outflows totaling more than $600M
Its a solved problem in crypto too. Shapeshift allowed for swapping of funds while always having control of the keys, but it was given hell by regulators. If it were allowed to grow maybe things like ftx wouldnt have gotten so big
cdiddy2··on Meta lays off 11,000 people
Their payment attempt was stifled by regulators though. I wonder where they would be at if they had launched Diem instead of shutting that down
cdiddy2··on Celsius Execs Cashed Out $40M in Crypto Before Halting Withdrawals for Customers
With tBTC (v2 coming very soon), you can move you bitcoin to the ethereum chain and trade it/use all defi there and then move it back all trustlessly. So in a way it makes ethereum a layer2 for bitcoin to work off of without having to change the bitcoin base chain
cdiddy2··on Investors sue Treasury Department for blacklisting crypto platform Tornado Cash
And yet US banks aren't banned https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/secret-documents-show-how...
cdiddy2··on Investors sue Treasury Department for blacklisting crypto platform Tornado Cash
Of course its attractive to criminals. Same reason they love cash. Doesn't mean that we should ban cash
cdiddy2··on Investors sue Treasury Department for blacklisting crypto platform Tornado Cash
They are explicitly a product for user privacy. Given that the depositor can prove the source of funds put into tornado cash via a zk-proof there is no reason that this should be shut down.
cdiddy2··on Investors sue Treasury Department for blacklisting crypto platform Tornado Cash
Tornado Cash has a great feature that you can use to prove the source of funds that were withdrawn from it as needed. This would allow exchanges to implement something where funds from Tornado could have to provide this proof before depositing. It could be fully compliant with both privacy and what exchanges/governments want. Coin Center does a great write up of it here, under "Compliance Tool"

Who says they didn't put money into USDC? I have talked to people there who definitely use USDC as a primary savings device, with btc and eth mixed in on the side for long term holding
