cdhdc··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (January 2026)
Nice work this looks like it would be so much nicer than fighting with the GUI tools.

Using existing component libraries via some sort of importer code looks like it might be needed to gain momentum.

cdhdc··on Ask HN: Freelancers and consultants, what do your project proposals look like?
This is my general structure.

* Background/Overview

* Project Scope

* Requirements (System level, or feature level)

* Requirements (The things I require from the client)

* Project Timing and Cost

* Out of Scope items or items that maybe addressed in a future phase of the project.

I found this book on writing a single page proposal to be quite helpful https://www.amazon.com/One-Page-Proposal-Business-Pitch-Pers...

I haven't ever succeeded in keeping it all one page but it is a great goal.

cdhdc··on Ask HN: Do you use earplugs and/or headphones to better concentrate?
You're fortunate to be in control of your environment. My poor opinion of open plan offices is that I am not in control (psychologically safe) making it difficult to concentrate when needed.
cdhdc··on Canadians working for US company remotely?
Attending conferences and training isn't a problem. But eventually if you follow kspaans advice you'll get turned away at the border and it will be a huge hassle from then forward. For most Canadians it is relatively easy to get a TN status (not a visa but the ability to work in US for a specific employer) with the appropriate documentation. Or you might need to investigate getting a B1 (business visa).

cdhdc··on TXL: a language for text structural transformation, analysis and verification
It has been used successfully in production. According to this webpage http://www.infoq.com/articles/dsl-interaction-txl it was used for Y2K analysis and conversions of over 3.5 billion lines at IBM Global Services.

cdhdc··on Engineer's Guide to US Visas
The information given regarding TN status isn't entirely accurate. I transitioned from a TN to a Greencard directly. There were several conditions that my immigration lawyer prepared me for so I wasn't violating dual-intent and there was a period of several months when I was unable to leave the US while I waited for my "Advance parole" travel documentation.
