cc81··on Is mathematics about to enter the conservatory?
In my experience the AI still does a lot of heavy lifting of thinking for the person.

Just like if I tell an artist can you draw a painting of a deer in the forest, but make it ominous and tense. I could have a vague idea of what that would mean for me but the professional artist will make correct decision in composition, light etc. to create that.

Just my sentence is nothing but the image can evoke feelings if done right.

cc81··on Russia 'intercepts Europe's key satellites'
Venezuela does not have the capacity to extract that much oil and it is also quite expensive.
cc81··on European troops arrive in Greenland to boost the Arctic island's security
Why would it be embarrassing for Europe? It is a symbolic/tripwire force to show that Denmark does not stand alone.
cc81··on European troops arrive in Greenland to boost the Arctic island's security
That is a tripwire deployment.

If there is a need to redesign the defense of Greenland I assume that would take more time.

cc81··on Floppy disks turn out to be the greatest TV remote for kids
You don't need to connect it to the Internet or use the built in OS for anything else than just navigate to your box. I just use my NVIDIA Shield for everything.
cc81··on Foreign hackers breached a US nuclear weapons plant via SharePoint flaws
What is it that is bad about it these days?
cc81··on Foreign hackers breached a US nuclear weapons plant via SharePoint flaws
When it was introduced Teams was pretty bad but these days it works just fine. I don't see that it being a decider really more than just historical preference.
cc81··on Pixnapping Attack
Maybe Linus has a point

>"It looks like the IT security world has hit a new low," Torvalds begins. "If you work in security, and think you have some morals, I think you might want to add the tag-line: "No, really, I'm not a whore. Pinky promise" to your business card. Because I thought the whole industry was corrupt before, but it's getting ridiculous," he continues. "At what point will security people admit they have an attention-whoring problem?"

cc81··on How Europe crushes innovation
Sweden is relatively good at creating innovative companies but is pretty friendly towards small companies especially.

Europe does lag behind though for many different reasons. One big is that the single market of EU is on paper large but in practice it is a lot of different countries with very different cultures and languages.

cc81··on Gemini figured out my nephew’s name
Could absolutely be that. Or it is so smart that it realizes that the author believes they have given enough information and that it should not have to land on a low chance guess. So that pattern is the only one that make sense in that case.

Maybe unlikely that is that smart though

cc81··on Gemini figured out my nephew’s name
I think that is the accomplishment. It progressed from not being able to give an answer because it did not have the direct knowledge to being able to make a guess based on a pattern of naming of others in the family and a clue.
cc81··on Fungus breaks down ocean plastic
Plastic straws come because the replacements tend to be bad (even if I assume they have gotten better over time).
cc81··on Microsoft's Nadella is building an AI empire
The sales pitch Microsoft has with Office (including Teams and SharePoint), EntraID (formerly Azure AD) and Azure is pretty strong for companies.
cc81··on Noam Chomsky 'no longer able to talk' after 'medical event'
Europe was happily buying more and more gas from Russia and wanted to increase trading until the directional change from Putin.
cc81··on Tips for linking shell companies to their secret owners
It is the worlds most powerful economy and not military that has its benefits. The US can dictate global rules because the cost of being shut out of the US economy is too large and not because the US would invade Switzerland if they don't play ball.
cc81··on Google to pause Gemini image generation of people after issues
I support them in their fight against how you guys pronounce certain things compared to how it is spelled. I'm not from the US though but Worcestershire sauce....come on.
cc81··on Google to pause Gemini image generation of people after issues
That is the US only though
cc81··on Netflix prepares to send its final red envelope
Yeah, and it can be still be profitable right now but have continuously falling margins that they don't see that they can reverse.
cc81··on Japan has changed in important and visible ways
As you age and require more and more services from the state of those countries do you think that country should provide you with an interpreter? You might encounter government employees, healthcare professionals or elderly care that does not speak English.
cc81··on NYSE Tuesday opening mayhem traced to a staffer who left a backup system running
They only take responsibility for the profit margins. Over hiring affects those but often not significant enough and can be corrected with layoffs.
cc81··on The Casio employee behind the “Sleng Teng” riddim that revolutionized reggae
I agree but it is also worth how/if the majority reacts to those kind of fringe ideas.
cc81··on YouTube bans coronavirus vaccine misinformation
Ok, and the difference between discussing it in the US is?
cc81··on YouTube bans coronavirus vaccine misinformation
>Try to discuss the surge in grenade attacks and many-fold increase in rape in Sweden.

Why would you not be able to do that in Sweden? How is it limited?

cc81··on Olof Palme murder: Sweden identifies man who killed PM in 1986
You don't think it was all the bombs in Turkey and in other countries that gave it that designation?
cc81··on Caffeine: A vitamin-like nutrient, or adaptogen
I don't know. I can feel a slight dependence on caffeine if I have been drinking a lot during some weeks and then stopping cold turkey (slight headache, possibly slightly more tired in a day or two) but it does not feel very addictive.

For a long period of time I only drank coffee during the week and not weekends, sometimes I stopped some summers and when I slept badly I stopped drinking coffee for a while. No problem at all with any of that.

I do like like the small energy burst in the morning when I'm working and I like the ritual when it is winter in Sweden it is dark and cold outside and you are freezing, then drinking a cup of coffee as you start up your computer is nice.

cc81··on Joe Rogan got ripped off
Taiwan did not mention in their email that person to person transmission was taking place. They said that WHO should do their own investigation.

Taiwan had no proof, they just did not trust China.

cc81··on Joe Rogan got ripped off
Taiwan, or its official name: the Republic of China is not a member of the UN and the US does not recognize it as an independent country either.

There is a lot of diplomatic weasel words and trade offices instead of embassies to keep that up but it suports the One China policy.

cc81··on Joe Rogan got ripped off
To be honest this is a novel disease that is affecting the world a lot right now and we simply don't know the best way forward.

This is not the flu, it is much worse, but we are generally not enforcing "seat belts" to protect the vulnerable even close to as much.

cc81··on Apple, Google ban location tracking in apps using their contact-tracing system
Yeah, but that is a small part of contact tracing (with law changes needed in some countries). The next step is to have personnel to notify suspected contacts, tell them to isolate themselves and then test them.

You need to have enough people for that, you need to have the testing capacity and you need to have people following that order.

It will work well if you have very low community spread and can start tracing on cluster level. If you are not there it can still be a good tool but you would probably still need a lot of other restrictions as well.

cc81··on Malaria 'Completely Stopped' by Microbe
I read somewhere that they are not important and that is good enough source for me. It could have been written on a post-it for me to support an eradication campaign.

I hate ticks.
