cbo100··on LG launches open-source version of webOS
> In what application does a LG TV show you ads?

The home screen/main menu shows ads on the left hand side all the time.

In my case, in Australia, it's often "BigPond Movies" which I'm not a subscriber to.

See for example this screenshot from a review...

> What am I missing here?

If I "own your DNS" wouldn't I just change them all to an IP space I control anyway? (If that was a requirement).

Unless I'm missing something, requiring "owning the IP space" seems to be an impossible requirement to fulfil. I'm on a virtual host in Azure/AWS/Linode I have no way of proving I own the IP (because I don't).

I can only find references on google to cucumber having silica on a bunch of health food/fad blogs. Presumably the gourmet brands are adding extra to capitalize on this.

If they wanted sediment, it would be cheaper to just add some of the actual fruit sediment they already have from earlier in the juicing process, rather than purchasing another ingredient.

relative to how much debt he had to pay off?

$40MM wouldn't be much buffer for a product that was about to go into manufacturing and distribution I would have thought?

I.e. all the costs of design, development and planning are sunk. And they didn't get to the stage of selling them to recoup any of that.

Based on the Philips customer use case on the front page, it seems it would work for this use case.

Sounds like they are using it as a "AWS Cloud in a box" type thing with no intention of returning it to AWS.

> "I used to work at this shop in 1995 or so...."

Dating the shelf stock via the "Video Fusion Version 1.5" seems to indicate it's from 1993. Of course I'm not sure how fast stock rotated through a reseller in Kuwait in the early 90s

They were still doing it in 2008.

I had a 2008 Lancer and the owners manual constantly had to make distinctions between "California" and "non-California" versions for various procedures/features.

(I'm not even in North America, that's just global manufacturing for you)

Mostly "Yes, to a certain extent".

Maybe not project templates, they seem to be targeting Yeoman as the use case for "getting started".

But autocomplete and git integration are definitely there. In some ways better than how VS does it.

cbo100··on American parenting is killing the American marriage (2014)
Potentially a two income household allows it's expenses to grow to take advantage of both incomes to some extent.

As a couple with two high incomes you actually have to try really hard not to let expenses get to the point where you can't live without both incomes. So in effect you now have 1 big income that you rely on.

In terms of the fragility, there is more chance of losing 1 out of 2 jobs (i.e. 50% of the income) than there is of losing 1 out of 1 jobs (i.e. 100% of the income). (I hope I explained this right - but it's how my thinking goes).

cbo100··on Tesla Motors Livestream
Well for me, I'm paying just over 22c/kwh, last period we used 808kwh over 80 days, so almost bang on 10 per day.

So with a solar setup that could charge a 10kw pack each day I could almost go off grid. That would save me nearly $1000/year once you take into account daily connection charges.

So the batteries would be paid off in 3-4 years, add a few years for however many panels I need and that's a pretty decent saving for no more power bills.

Of course it depends how long they are likely to last after that 10 year warranty period - no point swapping utility bills for tesla bills for replacements every 10 years.

$3,000 for 7kwh and $3,500 for 10, both sound unbelievable to me. My first thought is there's a missing zero on the end.

Recently had a quote in Australia for >$AUD12,000 for a 5kwh battery set.

This is going to change everything to do with solar installations I think. Currently battery packs are a rarely taken up optional component.
