Flutter should pick sensible defaults, in this case most agree that text should be selectable
catmanjan··on Microsoft Power Fx – A low-code general purpose programming language
Are you maybe talking about .Include() which you need to call when loading related entities?
catmanjan··on Are You Trading or Gambling?
Uh, that's a great idea, has this ever been proposed formally?
catmanjan··on Coinbase S-1
Artefacts and stamps bring joy by being able to show your friends, maybe your friends like looking at your wallet, but mine wouldn't...
catmanjan··on Technology Without Industry
Although only a paragraph is dedicated to the topic, I think this essay is more about the wonders of biology.

I've been thinking about this more lately, how cells are more or less the nanomachines we read about in sci-fi. Animals and plants are living machines, much more compatible with humans than the machines we have created - yet the investment in artificial machines dwarfs the natural ones... (I make this statement without evidence :)

catmanjan··on Facebook says it will pay news industry $1B over 3 years
Probably, Facebook pays zero tax in Australia, and I'm sure the government will be taxing this tithe...

catmanjan··on Changes to sharing and viewing news on Facebook in Australia
The primary way for the government to communicate with the public should never have been allowed to be a foreign, private third party
catmanjan··on Changes to sharing and viewing news on Facebook in Australia
To be honest, good. I don't want the government to use Facebook as the primary/only mechanism to communicate with the public...
catmanjan··on Changes to sharing and viewing news on Facebook in Australia
I don't believe we do, but I think the government may be thinking that now would be an excellent opportunity for someone to give it a go (our prime minister has a funny saying "if you have a go, you will get a go")
catmanjan··on Changes to sharing and viewing news on Facebook in Australia
While that is probably technically true, in reality the Australian government is unlikely to make Australian businesses comply, giving them a competitive advantage - I think this is a protectionist policy, but the right won't admit to that because it goes against their "free market" ideals.
catmanjan··on Front-of-the-Front-End and Back-of-the-Front-End Web Development

catmanjan··on Many small queries are efficient in SQLite
Wouldn't it still be over the network/IPC, unlike SQLite?
catmanjan··on More evidence that Neanderthals were ‘absorbed’ by humans, not wiped out
Yep
catmanjan··on More evidence that Neanderthals were ‘absorbed’ by humans, not wiped out
I meant to say groups of humans
catmanjan··on More evidence that Neanderthals were ‘absorbed’ by humans, not wiped out
A somewhat interesting fact is that by this definition two groups of humans can be different species simply by not being able to reach each other due to a impassable barrier
catmanjan··on Tesla Recalls Cars with EMMC Failures, Calls Part a ‘Wear Item’
Apples to oranges if it's not electric
catmanjan··on MasterCard to open up network to cryptocurrencies

Maybe that's musk's long term plan with satellites

But when your children are with their friends, and their friends fall over, do they laugh? Maybe their friends aren't as confident
catmanjan··on Cloudflare Announces Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year 2020 Financial Results
Most times I see faang it's in the context of tech jobs, and Netflix is notorious for its wages - just my perspective as an outsider in Australia...
catmanjan··on Dyson air purifier outperformed by cheap DIY box fan filter in Marketplace test
Do children understand that nuance? I would have thought they would associate people falling with laughing
catmanjan··on Dyson air purifier outperformed by cheap DIY box fan filter in Marketplace test
Surely laughing when your child falls over leads to them enjoying others misfortunes
catmanjan··on I don't want to do front-end anymore

catmanjan··on Waiting for PostgreSQL 14 – SEARCH and CYCLE clauses
Is there anything wrong with doing all your work in the database, other than the version control/deployment complications?
catmanjan··on Google News Showcase Launches in Australia
That's fair enough though isn't it? Products are for people, organisations want solutions
catmanjan··on Google News Showcase Launches in Australia
>GCP, Google Docs, etc... contracts goodbye. Especially with government customers

They've already done that, Google's market share in government is approaching zero. They just aren't a B2B company, unlike Microsoft

catmanjan··on Academic media censorship conference censored by YouTube?
So basically recycle bin rather than shredder
