It's also great to talk to the press when the story and the company's goals DON'T align. If a company is being investigated or impacted in some negative way, then not commenting looks worse on them.
If this is something that's happening over Zoom, then you're better off not attending and just watch the game at your own leisure.
It seems OpenAI is giving access to the API to friends and the who's-who of the machine learning world. I wouldn't count on the waiting list. If you're someone who works in the field and could benefit from GPT-3 and you know the right people, you already have access.

Many OSS people aren't on Twitter. They're on IRC, Mastodon and mailing lists.
Many of these artists are also likely on Instagram. But that'll require using a Facebook product, if that's not your thing.
Muting is makes using Twitter much easier, when it's working. Sometimes muted words and phrases find their way through the cracks.
