cat-turner··on One Brain to Query: Wiring a 60-Person Company into a Single Slack Bot
Great read. shows you what is possible
cat-turner··on Employers use your personal data to figure out the lowest salary you'll accept
You can tell them your past compensation, and if they dig in and you signed an agreement, tell them it included bonuses. Don't tell how much of your salary was compensation vs bonus.
cat-turner··on 81yo Dodgers fan can no longer get tickets because he doesn't have a smartphone
A business fails when it ostracizes their customers.
cat-turner··on Tell HN: Anthropic no longer allowing Claude Code subscriptions to use OpenClaw
Doesn't this unfairly impact startups? Why not instead allow issuance of API keys with usage caps? It seems like a money grab.
cat-turner··on Stripe closed my UAE business account and is withholding $3.5K
Horrible.
cat-turner··on Kagi: April 1, 1996

The only way they can manage this type of monetization is a lot of compute to process outputs.

cat-turner··on Gaza toddler returned with alleged torture wounds after Israeli detention

cat-turner··on Ask HN: Does anyone else notice that gas runs out faster than usual
we are literally getting less of everything for more money. it sucks here
cat-turner··on Ask HN: Does anyone else notice that gas runs out faster than usual
Now this makes a lot more sense. If the gov is allowing gas stations to cut with ethanol they are going to rob us.
cat-turner··on Ask HN: Does anyone else notice that gas runs out faster than usual
I live in California. Our temperature variation is not that large to explain this difference in fuel efficiency.
cat-turner··on Ask HN: Does anyone else notice that gas runs out faster than usual
I love the smell of gas. It's weird. But I am def the type of person to notice a difference in smell.
cat-turner··on Ask HN: Does anyone else notice that gas runs out faster than usual
makes sense
cat-turner··on New York City hospitals drop Palantir as controversial AI firm expands in UK
Palantir can install a data backdoor at anytime with their software. If you haven't noticed that businesses are openly violating data privacy you aren't paying attention. I don't have trust in our judicial system if Trump pardons criminals everyday.
cat-turner··on We haven't seen the worst of what gambling and prediction markets will do
Let's make a bet on how bad it can get

I can place a bet that by 2027 we will have 1 bet and a payout on a bet that predicts a horrible catastrophe.

cat-turner··on DOOM Over DNS
Super cool. Never thought of this. Would this be useful for seeding LLMs?
cat-turner··on Meta and YouTube found negligent in landmark social media addiction case
I actually quit Instagram because I found it so addictive. Wild that there's a case. Parents need to just take away phones from children. Simple as that.
cat-turner··on Show HN: Gemini can now natively embed video, so I built sub-second video search
This is great, thanks for sharing
cat-turner··on Apple Business
As long as I don't have to buy/pay for software to manage devices I provide to employees I am satisfied.
cat-turner··on Walmart: ChatGPT checkout converted 3x worse than website
A lot of people don't know this, but businesses pay (in terms of providing Walmart more inventory) for access to specific shelves. Their thinking that better positioning on the shelf leads to more sales. There are entire businesses built on optimizing endcaps.
cat-turner··on Walmart: ChatGPT checkout converted 3x worse than website
They don't want complete shopping automation because if it really worked, people would buy LESS. Walmarts in person and online storefront is engineered to get people to buy things they didn't come in for. Upselling is programmed at every step.
cat-turner··on Walmart: ChatGPT checkout converted 3x worse than website
Turns out real-time inventory access is not a trivial issue.
cat-turner··on You are not your job
Adapt or die. It has been the law for nature. It serves now.
cat-turner··on You are not your job
Reading content written by humans and not AI is a breath of fresh air. Thanks for sharing this.
cat-turner··on Firefox Adds Tab Notes
If I forget why I have so many tabs open I just close the browser and start fresh. My chaotic GC. I don't even look at the contents.

I have ADHD so I don't think this is the right way to do it.

cat-turner··on The Treasury just declared the U.S. insolvent
Don't worry guys, we'll still set aside money to fund wars in deserts far away.
cat-turner··on Show HN: We built a terminal-only Bluesky / AT Proto client written in Fortran
Ya know what? Rock on Fortran Friend. Keep doing what you are doing. We need more nerds passionate about Fortran.
cat-turner··on Reports of code's death are greatly exaggerated
I think what people don't realize is that rent and the mortgage isn't paid through art. It's paid through boring, important work that is mostly uncreative and requires precision. A lot of people don't really care about doing anything innovative, they just want to do something to get money to sustain their life. The same goes for businesses.

What a lot of people don't realize about software is that it is one of the few industries that offered a means to greatly improve your standard of living without requiring a formal degree.

AI just one-shotted that kind of work. There will always be a place for humans to do creative things, but there won't be a place for average people to make a living.

Example - look at animated movies. In the past studios hired hundreds of people to draw the movie. Now, its nearly all automated with software.

The need for human artistic ability for commercial work is nearly gone, and only left for nice to have products.

In 5 years we will see the same for software. It will be much faster than what happened to art because software is already in nearly every aspect of life.
