carnagecity786··on UK Rail services to come under unified state control
Unfortunately this isn't actual nationalisation. The railway will still be operated by private firms, this is only a transfer of franchising from the department of transport to this new "Great British Railways" department; which is a new franchising model. It's supposed to allow them to set unified fees, and have greater control over branding and speak with a unified voice, but apart from that I don't see any of the issues that we've had with privatised rail going away - those issues being incredibly high fees, understaffed and underpaid workers, under maintained infrastructure, and a lack of real investment in areas with little to no infrastructure at all (the north).

Also, you can really tell who the government are targeting this campaign at, and that's what it is, a media campaign. "Great British Railways"? Appealing to nationalist sentiments whilst doing little to nothing is the entire modern tory agenda.

>FBI agents found in late January from another source Pendley contacted using the Signal encrypted messaging app that he was planning to use C-4 plastic explosives to attack Amazon's data centers in an attempt to kill "70% of the internet."

How did they discover this? I thought signal was e2e encrypted?

I feel like I keep seeing headlines like this, but nothing really changes. No country has the power, authority or even the international political weight to stand up to China. In generations to come we're going to look back at this moment and marvel at how everyone knew it was happening (unlike Nazi Germany where the allies only found out towards the end of the war) and yet done nothing about it. The current US administration cares more about curbing China's international political and financial influence rather than perhaps the biggest humanitarian issue since the Rwandan Genocide

I guess it also has to do with the fact that this is a relatively recent change. Probably we'll see the effects of this in future generations of industry demographics, for now though the research and statistics are pretty clear in that women are underrepresented in STEM across the board; but this is something changing rapidly, especially in tech.
