carlgreene··on Research acceleration: The view inside OpenAI
I suspect the $8000/day figure is the equivalent in API costs. But I also suspect gross margin on their API rates are 80-90%
carlgreene··on Ordinary Abundance
Hedonic adaptation really is something. I have been deeply trying to appreciate these modern marvels more and more, but it's hard.

A hot shower, air almost 50 degrees cooler than the outside air coming out of my vents, communicating instantly thousands of miles away, it's all so easy to just forget and take for granted

carlgreene··on Anthropic apologizes for invisible Claude Fable guardrails
Effective Altruism I think
carlgreene··on The US is winning the AI race where it matters most: commercialization
I mean it is pretty clear if you look at the data around purchasing power of the median earner (~$44K/yr in US) the US is significantly higher than most EU countries.
carlgreene··on AI slop is killing online communities
You don't and that's the problem :)
carlgreene··on AI slop is killing online communities
It used the browser agent to grab user cookies after signing in, then made API calls iirc.

Using just a browser is way too token intensive and slow. It would look for 401 errors then run the browser automation to login with the credentials and grab the token.

carlgreene··on AI slop is killing online communities
I have worked with LLMs for a couple years at a very non-technical level and it was not that difficult to give it proper prompting and reference material.

If you are reading LLM content just about everywhere and have no idea. Obviously there are easy to spot things, but the stuff you don't spot is the stuff you don't spot

carlgreene··on AI slop is killing online communities
It has, and the well prompted agents still give that. It's very weird.
carlgreene··on AI slop is killing online communities
I will say that I believe you probably have absolutely no idea because it's not "slop". It looks like every other reddit comment you see.

My experiment was focused on niche subreddits as well due to the nature of the product I was trying to market.

carlgreene··on AI slop is killing online communities
I have largely written Reddit off and no longer visit it after an experiment I did where I had an agent karma farm for me and do some covert advertising. As I went through the posts it wrote I realized that as a reader I would have NO idea that these were just written by a computer. Many many people (or other bots) had full on conversations with it and it scared me a bit.

I am not quite there with Hacker News but I do know for a fact that many "users" here are LLMs.

Online communities are definitely dying. I guess I hope that maybe IRL communities have a resurgence in this wake.

carlgreene··on Can I disable all data collection from my vehicle?
Kinda rich coming from someone who doesn't even have a valid SSL cert on the website in their profile bio...
carlgreene··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
I "subconsciously" moved to codex back in mid Feb from CC and it's been so freaking awesome. I don't think it's as good at UI, but man is it thorough and able to gather the right context to find solutions.

I use "subconsciously" in quotes because I don't remember exactly why I did it, but it aligns with the degradation of their service so it feels like that probably has something to do with it even though I didn't realize it at the time.

carlgreene··on MacBook M5 Pro and Qwen3.5 = Local AI Security System
There are many different models, but all should come up with similar RTSPS stream from Protect. Let me know when you cut a new release and i'll try it!
carlgreene··on MacBook M5 Pro and Qwen3.5 = Local AI Security System
Yes you can get an RTSPS stream, but looks like Aegis is doing some validation that won't accept them. They look like - rtsps://192.168.1.1:7441/uOndh6hJd3Bti4kd?enableSrtp
carlgreene··on MacBook M5 Pro and Qwen3.5 = Local AI Security System
Wow this looks awesome! Will it work with Unifi Protect? I'm not seeing anything in the docs
carlgreene··on Vibe coded Lovable-hosted app littered with basic flaws exposed 18K users
Of course there were. Don't be pedantic. Anybody could write a program and put it on the internet. But to get a reasonably polished version with decent features and an enjoyable enough UX for someone to sign up and even pay money more, it generally took people who kind of knew what they were doing.

Of course shortcuts were taken. They always were and always will be. But don't try to compare shipping software today to even just 3 years ago.

carlgreene··on Vibe coded Lovable-hosted app littered with basic flaws exposed 18K users
The hardest part about this stuff is that as a user, you don't necessarily know if an app is vibe-coded or not. Previously, you were able to have _some_ reasonable expectation of security in that trained engineers were the ones building these things out, but that's no longer the case.

There's a lot of cool stuff being built, but also as a user, it's a scary time to be trying new things.

carlgreene··on Porsche sold more electrified cars in Europe in 2025 than pure gas-powered cars
I agree with this for the most part, though there are times and with specific cars that you can have a blast. I can have a lot of fun in an old M Coupe, or Miata.

I used to have a GT3...it was a dream car of mine and I finally got it. The sad reality was that in order to have fun with it on public roads I was either going to kill myself/someone else, or go to jail. The only way to really experience that car in a responsible way was to go to the track. Which I just flat out didn't have the time to do with young kids.

Things were very different 20-30 years ago. Roads were less crowded and people were much more respectful on the road. Now, especially where I live, it's a free for all Mad Max cosplay.

Very curious to hear how you went phone-free and what your setup looks like
carlgreene··on The creator of Claude Code's Claude setup
I am one of those founders who does not want their customers to know. I have one specific very large customer that is quite an old school company. My software has become pretty pivotal for some of their workflows and if they knew it was one guy on his laptop keeping things afloat with the help of a mysterious AI I am pretty sure they'd reconsider our contract.
carlgreene··on China's BYD set to overtake Tesla as top EV seller
I have such a difficult time with this. Not the self driving part, but the largest possible car/truck part.

As a cyclist in a very truck-and-large-car-obsessed state I really hate them and their drivers scare me. And because of that I have a really hard time convincing myself that I should be in one too vs. a smaller more practical car. But at the same time I realize that my family getting hit in a Honda Accord (most likely by a much larger car) is going to be quite a bit worse than if we get hit in a Cybertruck or GMC Sierra.

carlgreene··on China's BYD set to overtake Tesla as top EV seller
For real. I just assume that anyone who talks like that has never driven the car and has not used FSD in the past couple years.

Say what you want about Elon, his politics, whatever, but the cars and technology are absolutely incredible.

carlgreene··on I just want working RCS messaging
I don't know if you are purposefully being pedantic here, but they are very different things. Even as an adult who has been in several of these very active iMessage group chats with "mutual bullying", they are vastly different from any of the RCS/SMS groups I'm in due to some of the features in iMessage.
carlgreene··on AWS to bare metal two years later: Answering your questions about leaving AWS
Ok so this may be a dumb question...but now do you handle ISP outages due to storms and stuff with on prem solutions? I'd imagine large datacenters have much more sophisticated and reliable internet connections than say an Xfinity business customer, but maybe that's wrong.
carlgreene··on Ubiquiti SFP Wizard
This is not for me as I'm not a professional network engineer, but I do want to say that Ubiquiti has made home networking SO fun for me. Everything truly "Just Works."

My setup is definitely more on the prosumer side, but it's been so build out and inspect my network with their tools.

carlgreene··on Claude Skills are awesome, maybe a bigger deal than MCP
I’m curious some of the things you’re having the LLM/agents do with a full Linux sandbox that you wouldn’t allow on your local machine
