cargoshipit··on Ask HN: Are knowledge-requirements for senior engineers becoming too much?
“backend can be generated and requires minimum modification for authz”

lol

cargoshipit··on StimulusReflex, or LiveView for Rails
Has anyone used LiveView and this enough to give a comparison of the dev UX? I've mainly used LiveView for a side project and have quite enjoyed it.
cargoshipit··on How to Become a Data Engineer in 2021
I don't recommend it
cargoshipit··on Stimulus.js 2.0
because then you need an api
cargoshipit··on Show HN: ORM for TypeScript with no query-builder, supporting full SQL queries
Sorry got ahead of myself there:

cargoshipit··on Show HN: ORM for TypeScript with no query-builder, supporting full SQL queries
This bills itself as 'ActiveRecord for Javascript'. Kinda relies on Graphiti's implementation of the JSON API spec. I really like Graphiti and Spraypaint though.

Cool story bro
cargoshipit··on GraphQL Query Generator
The biggest pains with hasura are managing migrations across a large development team and adding business logic.
cargoshipit··on Life is 90% of my use cases for org-mode
Okay, so we need to make sure that anyone that could ever potentially edit this file has this exact same configuration setup and is using emacs?

That's dumb and flaky. You sound like one of those guys that spends thousands of hours customizing/tweaking things instead of just accomplishing tasks.

cargoshipit··on Seven years later, I bought a new MacBook. For the first time, I don't love it
I have a 16" mbp and enjoy it quite a lot. I don't put my fingers in dumb places and I don't have any problems with the OS. Astounding.
cargoshipit··on Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish
I knew something like this would be the top comment as soon as I saw the title.
cargoshipit··on A first look at Unreal Engine 5
Not sure what you're on about. While playing Horizon: Zero Dawn and God of War I was constantly admiring and enjoying the visuals.
cargoshipit··on A first look at Unreal Engine 5
It's the usual HN: pretentiousness abound. Can't even be excited about a wonderful tech demo.
cargoshipit··on My Mid-Career Job-Hunt: A Data Point for Job-Seeking Devs
Toxic people absolutely demolish morale and productivity. The effects are strong enough that even a hint of egotistical behavior is enough to put you out of the running (for good reason).
cargoshipit··on Hasura raises $9.9M to simplify GraphQL
> How do we add business logic ?

Awkwardly. Good luck

cargoshipit··on PostgREST
This is a direct mapping of the schema into a REST format to be consumed by frontend applications. It doesn't get much "SQL"ier as far as the frontend is concerned. What alternative would you present?
cargoshipit··on Choosing Ruby on Rails for web development project in 2019
Frameworks like Rails/Django are still an extremely viable way to go; even just for an API. I've seen so many cases of early microservices adoption when something like RoR would have saved them a ton of headache. If you need that kind of scale then great, but it's more likely that "you ain't gonna need it".
cargoshipit··on Docker is vulnerable to a symlink-race attack
