cancerSpreads··on Ask HN: A way to adblock “we're using cookies” popups?
>The EU cookie laws were well-meaning, but have had the unintended consequence

This is all government.

I'm not sure why we keep expecting anything other than regulatory capture with government intervention.

I have tried to fix this slow loading problem. Happening on 2 separate gaming laptops with SSDs.

Maybe I don't know what to Google.

The quality of Firefox on Windows as software is much to be desired.

Due to slow loading, I'm considering whatever they call the Microsoft browser today.

No surprise here. Apple and Nintendo are cut from the same cloth.

Big marketing budget, medium quality product, high price.

I do my part in capitalism by purchasing products that are quality.

The STEM in me says, it should all be the same.

The more students you meet at "top Universities" the more the illusion of superiority disappears.

The students are mind numbingly average. (But don't worry they will let you know what college they went to 12 years ago)

Heck if the job requires any communication, you might be better off finding someone humble or someone who needs to prove themselves.

Or maybe the best of these students go on to work at companies that pay 250k/yr and I just don't meet them.

Bookmarked for anytime someone tells me Apple products are secure.

Marketing doesn't line up with reality.

Not that those who parrot the marketing would be convinced with evidence.

Unpoliced and relatively unpoliced are drastically different.
cancerSpreads··on No Recent Automation Revolution
This article comes too soon.

How long have we been able to use millions of entries to machine learn?

I'm still limited by processing speed.

I imagine between math improvements, electrical engineering, computer science improvements/discoveries, and more we can automate jobs that require thinking or fine motor movements.

Love being a contractor. I'm currently unemployed but gave multiple years of savings.

>was encouraged to pursue professional development, my professional goals and dreams were catered for and I felt like I could make personal progression.

I think this is because instead of giving a pay raise, they offer these benefits.

It costs the company nothing.

You have discovered Apple Marketing. Their security and privacy stances are no different.

Given all the ads for Firefox on HN I keep trying it but it's insanely slow.

I don't think it's intended to be like this, not sure where to begin troubleshooting.

Government employment is not necessarily beneficial. It's not governed by economics.

You can have completely useless roles exist for hundreds of years.

Skilled or unskilled labor is better in the private sector for everyone's sake.

cancerSpreads··on Edge of Emulation: Game Boy Sewing Machines
The Japanese culture basically prevents bad ideas from being stopped.

If your boss says to do something, you don't disagree.

cancerSpreads··on Edge of Emulation: Game Boy Sewing Machines
Nintendo does stuff like this because you can't say No to your boss in a Japanese company.

If you look at the last few decades you can see horrible ideas executed at a professional level.

Whenever I see a Nintendo Ad, I'm thinking to myself, those poor regional Marketing department have to sell this. Then again, Nintendo knows to advertise primarily to children, so maybe it's not that hard.

cancerSpreads··on Ask HN: How do I reach making $1-1.5k/mo in 13 months?
I wish someone told me this sooner..

Instead people told me to do personal projects.

Sure they are impressive, but I can't get an interview.
