I fail to see how uber's growth will cause traffic chaos.

I know that gog.com has been packaging up games for OSX with it. It works pretty well for that jump. One person configures it once and ships the app with its own wineskin and it just works.

I do something similar. I have a keyfile that I copy over manually so that people need to get more than just my password + .kdb

I'd like to see the eclipse feature that was mentioned, but I don't really like the baggage that comes with eclipse. Maybe I won't like baggage that comes with this, but that doesn't change the fact that this project really interesting.

But what the poster is really thinking of is the JVM. We now have Scala, Clojure, and others that target the JVM as a platform.

And google is the king of unusual business models. It can be in a company's wallet's best interest to be moral if it drives up sales and trust. I can think of countless companies that exist in the "we're green so buy us" space.

Sneak is speaking specifically about the impact on the US IT industry. As an American IT worker, I agree. "Not subject to US jurisdiction" is becoming a feature.

By running it on a physical machine. Unless there is a requirement that the processor not be multitasking that I am missing.

This is absolutely not true. I am working in SF with a number of electrical engineers working as software developers. I have a degree from a small state college.
