callesgg··on Scientists create simple synthetic cell
Or... you can just use the top up built cell to manufacture things. Why build your own nanorobots when there are pre made nanorobots that already works.
callesgg··on Scientists create simple synthetic cell
What do you mean? Like creating every protin without a ribosome? Why would you need to go to that lengths of artfical? Seams to like you have to start from the top up in one way or another. Starting from the complete bottom just seams over the top.
callesgg··on Breakthrough for ‘massless’ energy storage
Presumably that should be read: Better than previous “massless battery’s”.

“... produced a structural battery that performs ten times better than all previous versions”
callesgg··on Moderna mRNA sequence released to GitHub [pdf]
It is actually sort of strange how compartmentalized the living cell is.

I guess there is some type of redundancy that comes from compartmentalization that is evolutionarily beneficial.

callesgg··on How to Criticize Computer Scientists (2001)
The article is supposed to be a joke.

If the author did not intend for it to be a joke, you can make the conclusion that the author has psychopathic tendencies.

callesgg··on Giant Ship Is Moved To and Fro to Break Suction: Suez Update
Yes nice, but the Music was horrible.
callesgg··on In Stockholm there's currently an IT battle underway
It is hard to blame other people when you are the only one to blame. When you decide to use a open source project it is your fault if it fails not the open source project, it often says so in the licensing.

While that is always true in reality(you are always responsible for your actions), it is not legally obvious when you buy commercial products(you can blame the manufacturer).

While people are often reluctant to accept that. I find that it is often what people’s arguments in this regards can be boiled down to.

callesgg··on Suez Canal: How are they trying to free the Ever Given?
I was looking in to to lifting containers with a helicopter. A Ericsson air crane can lift a light container but not a fully loaded one. Sucking the sand away, seams like the most reasonable alternative.
callesgg··on Suez canal blocked by a massive ship
You fill in the AIS data fields yourself, my experience is that it is not uncomon to see the ”less important” AIS data Fields beeing wrong.
callesgg··on “username or password incorrect” is bullshit
Mabye i don't want people beeing able to figure out that i have an account for a specific service.

Well I guess they can figure that one out by signing up with my email. Cause when you do that websites tend to complain(I think).

But given my previous statement I guess I think that would be the flaw if anything should be seen as a flaw.

callesgg··on Ask HN: What are some “10x” software product innovations you have experienced?
Makes one wonder how someone was able to create a shell that is as shity as CMD is.

It is remarkable how bad it is.

callesgg··on Ask HN: What are some “10x” software product innovations you have experienced?
If you like that you should try the fish Shell. Not great for automation but amazing for general use.
callesgg··on Hubble Space Telescope is back online after software glitch
People are scared and want to save their asses so they make super low estimates. That way it sounds really good in the media when things keep working.

I used to do the same when I did software development “I will be done with that in 2 days” then proceeded to build the thing in 2 hours chill 3-4 hours and hand it in earlier than expected. Everyone was happy.

callesgg··on How I earn a living selling my open-source web-based invoicing application
Yeah i have the same experience with about 100 pi’s. But I still added a mitigation making the log directory a overlayfs with tempfs underneath.

I think that reduced the number of writes to the sd card allot.

callesgg··on Fusion startup plans reactor with small but powerful superconducting magnets
While I agree with you get a better microphone. Buying Chinese crap is a lottery I bought my self a Chinese condenser microphone 60usd that thing is worse than my iPhone headset. My lesson when it comes to buying quality is to only buy name brand things.
callesgg··on Facial recognition can predict person’s political orientation with 72% accuracy
Hum i take this back the calculation should be 0.13 * 0.89 + 0.87 * 0.5 = 55% total accuracy
callesgg··on Facial recognition can predict person’s political orientation with 72% accuracy
So your race accounts for less than 3% despite 89% of all black people voting left, that seams strange.

I did not do the full math but just the ballpark numbers I entered in to my calculator says that it should account for about 11%.

* 89% according to numbers from nbc

Edit: So say I assume that every African American person I see votes left. 13% of the population is African American 89% of them actually vote left. 13% * 89% = 11% Then I simply guess on all non African American a 50/50 shot. I should then be right 50% + 11% = 61% of the time.

callesgg··on Honda's now selling the first production car with level 3 self-driving
[X] Doubt.
callesgg··on Google Cloud products in 4 words or less
Yeah. Pretty much.
callesgg··on Ask HN: Always on low power home server
I have one that i use for various things firewall, router, file sharing, prototyping web systems, torrenting. Backup of images. A 1000 different small things. I guess I could do without it but it is very convenient to have somewhere where I can run small scripts test various things and make the result publicly accessible over the web.
callesgg··on Wi-LE: Can WiFi replace Bluetooth? (2019) [pdf]
I can see a reason to abandon BLE. Bluetooth is generally a bit problematic maybe due to is complexity. but “Bluetooth low energy” is perfect for what it is (a super slow short range wireless communication implementation).
callesgg··on Houdini Engine for Unreal and Unity Now Free
Blender is simply as good or better than the alternatives.

While the open source image, audio and video editors are not better than the alternatives.

Sure there are other factors to. There are always other factors. But given enough time the best product will win.

callesgg··on The U.S. Air Force just admitted the F-35 stealth fighter has failed
The us does not need new fighter jets. The current generation drones is enough. If the us needs something it is cheaper and better air to air missiles. Not that there is anyone to fight anyways. A drone with 2 guided missiles that can be lost with no human casualty is allot better than any human carrying fighter aircraft could every be. And it does not have to be fast cause 1. the missiles are fast 2. it does not matter if the drone is lost.
callesgg··on Perseverance Rover lands on Mars [video]
Solar cells Would not handle a rud. But Just fill the entire thing with solar cells. If they want to produce methane and co2 on Mars they will need lots of power.
callesgg··on How useful should copy_file_range be?
I used to ponder on an idea that partial file copy’s could be done with file fragmentaion.
callesgg··on The left-cradling bias and its relationship with empathy and depression
Maybe connected to the right leaning of kisses. You lean right and look to the left. Just like you look left when your babys face is to the left.

A hypothesis...

callesgg··on Pseudophilosophy encourages confused, self-indulgent thinking
The author used to be my philosophy teacher. Fun to stumble on a article written by him.

I think I agree with him just a smal amount of philosophy in grade school would probably be very helpful for getting more people on to a “better” path.

callesgg··on Soldat: a 2D (side-view) multiplayer action game
Strange how I have been thinking about the soldat game a few times the last 2 months. Then a link on hacker news... the universe works in mysterious ways.
callesgg··on Xpdf
PDF.js has solved most of my pdf needs. It is like the VLC of pdf. Just sort of works.
callesgg··on New quantum receiver the first to detect entire radio frequency spectrum
Hackrf only captures 20 MHz of spectrum. But is tunable to the range you described. You would need 1000 hackrf to capture the entire range at once.
