cakesy··on [dead]
Anyone who can? Dorm rooms are where all the girls are.
cakesy··on [dead]
Not on an unlocked phone, anyway. You can still sell apps for unlocked phones, not sure what the returns are.

Apple only gives you access to the address book, very annoying.

Would love to get more access, to calendar, calls data etc...

cakesy··on Facebook iPhone Dev Quits Project Over Apple Tyranny
and that he can still walk.
cakesy··on Tell HN: Apple paid my iPhone money, with exceptional service
Wrong.

Do not quit your day job until you have BEEN PAID $3000 in the bank. Until you can go to the ATM and take out some of that $3000.

Have you not learned anything from this experience?

cakesy··on Tell HN: Apple paid my iPhone money, with exceptional service
Yeah, I know. Why doesn't everybody run around and fix my fuckups quicker? I don't understand why they keep blaming me, when I do something wrong.
cakesy··on Apple becomes top phone maker by profits (beating Nokia, etc)
But it is how most people get an apple.
cakesy··on App Store “Released Date” Lists Now Omitting Updates
No, this change happened in the last week or so.
cakesy··on How Bing could kill Google
Looking at one example, the one that favors your opinion is useless. Yes, sometime this works, sometimes it doesn't.
cakesy··on App Store “Released Date” Lists Now Omitting Updates
They wanted to get on that list, because getting on that list means increased sales.

Now to get more sales, they have to release more apps. I guess this is good for apple, but more releases generally means lots more crap.

cakesy··on Why kids don't program
And, they can very easily show it to there friends, if it is in javascript. My niece loves designing webpages that she shares with her mates. Of course, getting her to program rather than put up pictures of twilight is another issue.
cakesy··on Murdoch: We’ll probably remove our sites from Google’s index
Myspace has been losing share, while facebook has been gaining a lot. If you look at it that way, mySpace is losing. I am not sure how well it is performing for Murdoch.

You have to give kudos for him trying to get into a new market.

As for how he will lose if he removes his sites from google, time will tell. I assume he has done a lot of work looking at the area.

cakesy··on The Incompetence of American Airlines and the Fate of Mr. X
That is not ironic. I expect people to use words they don't understand anywhere else, but come on hacker news, I expect more from you and the people who comment here.
cakesy··on The Incompetence of American Airlines and the Fate of Mr. X
Yes, the guy is clearly not a "team player", not a "loyal" employee, he had to go.
cakesy··on 4th Time's a Charm - How We Got Through the iPhone App Store's Reject-o-matic
Thank god we have another sound board, I am so happy that you got this amazing app through. Maybe the app reviewers were giving you a hint, like do we really need another sound board. Surely >1000 is enough?
cakesy··on My Agile Experiment - a Flashlight on the iPhone - Up to 74th in utilities now
There is no reason all phones would have the same time. I know some US phones sync the time with the carrier, which is a great function but not seen in the rest of the world.

You could use bluetooth, but then you have to switch it on.

You could use the camera to pick up the phones behind you somehow, but that would not always work.

cakesy··on Microsoft calls Zoho the "Fake Office" - Zoho responds with a zinger
These things don't magically happen, and they take time. Time you could spend on adding features, or in including more browser options for users.

I am not sure why I feel the need to explain this, and not on this website.

cakesy··on IPhone Flash prototype got 30 min battery life
Linus won't let Adobe make a decent Flash plugin for Linux. Linus restricts APIs that the plugin needs to run well--things like access to hardware video acceleration.
cakesy··on The Nemesis hypothesis
He should chuck a link into the amazon site, I really want to read that now.
cakesy··on The Nemesis hypothesis
Why would you want something shorter, that was a nice piece of writing.

Of course cruel to just leave us hanging there.

cakesy··on Droid: iDon't Understand Search Engine Optimization
Sure, why would they ever want extra hits from search engines (not just google remember, no other search engine can see this properly either). Why would they want extra traffic, surely they want to keep this a big a secret as possible??

The fact is that the people who did this have no idea, sure they can create fancy flash, but they are ignorant of almost everything else about the web.

cakesy··on How I Lost 20 Pounds in 20 Weeks With My iPhone (or: Data is King)
You actually get used to not eating. I had to get used to it. What triggers peoples hunger is different for different people, some people get hungry when they need more food, some people get hungry when they CAN fit more food into their stomach.

You need to force yourself to become the first type, from the second type. It can be done.

I work in IT, this is my theory, I am not a nutritionist.

cakesy··on How I Lost 20 Pounds in 20 Weeks With My iPhone (or: Data is King)
It would be useful to say how long you have maintained the same weight after stopping the diet.
cakesy··on YC: Help, I quit my job, now I cannot get Apple to pay me out for iPhone Apps
Yes, the process is poorly described, but it is not a simple mistake.

Why create a company at all? Why create a fake company, one that does not have a bank account associated with it? Why do so in a country you don't live in?

This all sounds very strange.

cakesy··on YC: Help, I quit my job, now I cannot get Apple to pay me out for iPhone Apps
It takes a while to get paid even when you get everything right. This guy messed up big time, but then again the process is made confusing by Apple. You think they would have pointed out this difference between personal and business itunes accounts.

The only thing he can do is to get apple to change his account from business to private, and get them to move the old funds over, and paid into his bank account.

This can take a while, Apple don't want to move quickly on this for obvious reasons.

cakesy··on Why hasn't Vista sold well?
Bullshit. We have a machine here with Vista we use for testing, it is torture to try to get anyone to use that machine. I won't, unless I have to.

Vista is a piece of shit. I can't belive that any reasonable person would say otherwise. Maybe 7 ain't so shit, but that is not high praise.

cakesy··on A Story of Why Devs Should Think Twice about Developing for the iPhone
No, you can program in almost any language for Android, a change that was added about 3 months ago.

Objective-c is great, much better than java or c# if you ask me.

Are you sure you actually program for Android, you seem to be missing quite a bit of knowledge.

cakesy··on A Story of Why Devs Should Think Twice about Developing for the iPhone
Number one reason to use the App store is that it is very easy to make large piles of money.
cakesy··on A Story of Why Devs Should Think Twice about Developing for the iPhone
I have had that too, but it is not unreasonable.

The worst I have had is because I used a SIMILAR font and style to a well known tv show, in a quiz about that tv show.

cakesy··on A Story of Why Devs Should Think Twice about Developing for the iPhone
I sort of agree with you, but just because a name is trademarked (you can't copyright a name), doesn't mean you can NEVER EVER use it. For example, Wii. There you go.
cakesy··on Do you use Yahoo Pipes? If not, you should.
Good question. I use Pipes at the moment, it is very useful and an integral part of some of my apps. It would mess me up majorly if they changed this, 2 or 3 weeks work. Lets hope they give us plenty of warning.

Also, I find the docs for pipes rubbish, lots of references to old versions.
