IMO the ELM architecture only works with pure functions. It doesn't work with languages which cannot provide this compile time guarantee. Also functional programming needs a different mindset / training. You won't benefit from it until you understand what it actually brings to the table (and what it leaves out).

I agree. Doesn't contradict anything I said. So I will assume you posted the link in support of my argument :)

> Some common design patterns are so flexible that if you really implemented them in full generality as, say, some library function, its interface would be so complex that it likely wouldn't be a net win

Then I would say you have not arrived at the optimal solution. Keep looking.

> I'm using MVC design patterns for some codebases, I'm using DDD plus Event sourcing and Event Driven for others.

All examples of OO nonsense. There is only one pattern you need (functions) (tongue-in-cheek): https://fsharpforfunandprofit.com/fppatterns/

Edit: Also consider using the ELM architecture instead of MVC: https://guide.elm-lang.org/architecture/

Design patterns exist to paper over language deficiencies. Use a language which is not deficient.
cake-rusk··on Nvidia Stock Crash Prediction
I don't know why you are being downvoted. What you said makes sense to me but I understand I know very little about how companies think. Can someone with a differing point of view elaborate?
cake-rusk··on I/O is no longer the bottleneck? (2022)
He probably meant beer kegs. Memory map-able data is closer to sending beer cans since both are in a ready to use format.

Why?

Really? When was this?
cake-rusk··on James Moylan, engineer behind arrow signaling which side to refuel a car, dies
Cars in India don't have this arrow. The inlet is always on the left (passeger) side. I wonder if there is some regulation governing this.

Edit: though I have never seen / noticed any cars with the fuel inlet on the driver's side some imported cars may have them.

I guess this is a first world problem.

cake-rusk··on Rob Pike goes nuclear over GenAI
Slightly offtopic: Any good reasons for learning go now given that zig and rust exist?
cake-rusk··on The post-GeForce era: What if Nvidia abandons PC gaming?
I don't think they will. There is a reason why every GPU they make (gaming or not) supports CUDA. Future gamers are future CUDA developers. Taking that away would be a self goal.

Nice one!

Got it. Thanks for sharing.

VSCode can replace within a selected block. Though it takes an extra click. I see you point.
cake-rusk··on Flow – A Programmer's Text Editor
Find and replace does all of this, right?
cake-rusk··on Flow – A Programmer's Text Editor
Yes I get that its a basic requirement for some people. I am asking why.
cake-rusk··on Flow – A Programmer's Text Editor
I have rarely ever seen a problem and thought to myself I need multiple cursors. I admit it's useful for data wrangling but programming?

What are people using it for? I would love to see some real world usage.

cake-rusk··on Dafny: Verification-Aware Programming Language
Yes, but the quality of the spec varies. For example many (most?) C programs have undefined behaviors which means the spec is incomplete and unreliable. Dafny gives you better tools to avoid this. So in the end you get a higher quality spec with Dafny.

cake-rusk··on What .NET 10 GC changes mean for developers
Yeah, you got me there. I have moved on to Linux development since then. Haven't kept up with Microsoft developer tools.
cake-rusk··on What .NET 10 GC changes mean for developers
IIRC the EULA forbids it. This is why you don't see .net v/s Java GC comparisons for example.
cake-rusk··on What .NET 10 GC changes mean for developers
Are you now allowed to benchmark the .Net runtime / GC?

Edit: Looks like you are allowed to benchmark the runtime now. I was able to locate an ancient EULA which forbade this (see section 3.4): https://download.microsoft.com/documents/useterms/visual%20s...

> You may not disclose the results of any benchmark test of the .NET Framework component of the Software to any third party without Microsoft’s prior written approval.

cake-rusk··on Why the hell does Android even exist anymore?
Why the hell does iOS even exist anymore? Android is useful precisely because it is not iOS. Yes it's useful even without side loading.
cake-rusk··on What is “good taste” in software engineering?
Spaces have won already. It is the default setting across code editors now.

Obviously simulation hypothesis. The vastness of space and the limit on the speed of light suggest multiple worlds are being simulated in the same "space" such that isolation between worlds is always maintained.
