cafebabbe··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
This is going to cause more pain to the Japanese people.
cafebabbe··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
Ha yes the blissful experience of drug addiction
cafebabbe··on The senior engineer death spiral
Well I disagree, at least in Europe - i don't know the state of the US market.

Sure, promotions are harder to get, but the "ladder hasn't collapsed" and many companies I know (at least in tech) will reward above-average dedication (that average being quite low...).

cafebabbe··on iPhone Duo
Oh thanks but I need less screen in my life, not more.
cafebabbe··on We Must Return to the Office to Use AI in Person
Gosh it's so soothing to read that after those months of drowning into the turbulent deluge of dAIrrhea that are blogposts now
cafebabbe··on The browser's main thread is expensive
Honestly... i'm usually on the AI;DR bandwagon but this was actually good :/
cafebabbe··on Smartphone LED detects hidden cameras with AI
Well 100% accuracy always comes with a price.
cafebabbe··on The End of Programming
Same mental state i'm now, back from holidays. AI-free diet for a while. Nothing scarier than realizing that "smart" laziness was simply hiding the beginning of incompetence.
cafebabbe··on The End of Programming
I don't know if this is the end of programming, but i can clearly observe the gradual end of expertise in my company - people slowly forgetting architecture, principles, and how stuff works in general, in favor of code delivery speed.

And without expertise you end up asking stupid things to a token producer machine, however godlike it can be.

It's hard not to extrapolate...

cafebabbe··on 2027 memory capacity is reportedly sold out
I can think of a few scenarios where this will end brutally
cafebabbe··on Advertise in ChatGPT
Such a refreshing take nowadays. Thanks a lot.
cafebabbe··on Speech Recognition and TTS in less than 500kb
... I cannot think of an activity less suitable for coding (except scuba diving)

I would die In minutes

cafebabbe··on Sleep regularity is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration (2023)
Because it's unlikely that a specific deficiency is your only single problem.
cafebabbe··on Sleep regularity is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration (2023)
Don't eat pills. Fix your diet.
cafebabbe··on Chatto is now open source
I absolutely love boring software. It's a very, very rare quality nowadays.
cafebabbe··on 98% Isn't Much
You can make it so those 2% are dealing with ugly -but functional- layouts

it that reduces development/maintenance cost by a lot, that's not a terrible deal.

cafebabbe··on Zuckerberg says AI agent development going slower than expected
Honest question, is there a single successful large investment made by Meta recently ? I just know about the abject failures :)
cafebabbe··on Ice water drowning survival of young patient (2025)
Yes it's still more than 2 hours.

two hours underwater! that's insanity.

cafebabbe··on Generative AI Is Having Its Herbalife Moment
There is already the very classical grift : you don't sell genai content, you sell "get rich quick with genai" methods. This is where the recursion starts.
cafebabbe··on Windows 11 users are tired of MS account requirements creeping into everything
Same (2024), but i wouldn't come back in a hurry if they did so. Basically everything works now in Linux world, including my obscure devices, music & video editing, and my whole steam library... with better performance. It's sort of insane.
cafebabbe··on The newest Instagram “exploit” is the goofiest I've seen
What an happy ending
cafebabbe··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
Love that your comment is ambiguous enough to apply to both sides here :)
cafebabbe··on Zig ELF Linker Improvements Devlog
There is absolutely no "Bun drama", there are just two projects with different goals and methodologies, mutually incompatible. All this thing is just a small bunch of bored, terminally-twitting people ...

In any case, I'm super glad for this milestone (and impressed!).

cafebabbe··on Slumber a TUI HTTP Client
looks very polished and neat. Alas for me 10-20ish lines for the json response is really, really not enough
cafebabbe··on AI is just unauthorised plagiarism at a bigger scale
Because some thoughts can, actually, be original ? Or relatively original enough ? Or simply, pertinent and timely ?
cafebabbe··on Google changes its search box
Amazing pictures, thanks for sharing!
cafebabbe··on As researchers age, they produce less disruptive work
Ah, humor, this alien concept.
cafebabbe··on Multi-stroke text effect in CSS
If you have a lot of "images" with such effects to generate from dynamic text, using SVG makes no sense, is vastly more complex and less flexible than the solution here.
cafebabbe··on The Overtom Chess Computer Museum
Wow! Very cool. How did it manage to get a knight out as an opening move, for instance? Moving between the pieces, or moving other pieces out of the way?
cafebabbe··on 5x5 Pixel font for tiny screens
