I'm Harshvardhan J. Pandit, an Assistant Professor at University College Dublin, Ireland. I primarily work in the areas of Consent, Privacy Risks, GDPR compliance, and semantic web. I read a lot, find productive ways to be unproductive, and aim to do more than I possibly can.

c55··on ELI5 on why "Pay or Surveillance Ads" should not be legal
Context: Meta has started offering "Pay or Consent to Surveillance Advertising" on its services. This model is inherently flawed and should not be legal. My notes on this topic.

Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a boolean or binary signal sent by browsers to websites to indicate the user's request for not sharing (or selling) their personal data with third parties. The authors (and supporters) of this specification include people from New York Times, Wesleyan University, DuckDuckGo, and Brave (with many other researchers and supporters). This makes it not a toy project, given that a big publisher, search engine, and web browser vendor is actively supporting its implementation and adoption. However, its implementation leaves important open questions, and its unclear how it will work with EU laws (a.la GDPR)
