c3833174··on Southern Europe Has Not Seen Net Job Creation in over a Decade
>It's like complaining that your company has to many customers.

Well, management accepting more orders without enough people/space to do the work can be a pain.

c3833174··on Southern Europe Has Not Seen Net Job Creation in over a Decade
Well, there's hundreds of abandoned-looking industrial buildings in my area that are actually filled with CNC machines and only have 3,4 employees
c3833174··on Structured Page Fragments by YouTube (2017)
That too, and it also happens on firefox
c3833174··on Structured Page Fragments by YouTube (2017)
Well, youtube does manage to play the video instantly but having to wait 5+ seconds for recommended videos and comments to load is pretty awful and distracting once they load
c3833174··on A vacuum tube ROM?
You can burn yourself with a soldering iron or splashed solder too, better avoid electronics all together.
c3833174··on Microsoft acquires Github
Meanwhile the rent-seeking on FAT patents continues
c3833174··on Microsoft acquires Github
Issues and old repots would be lost but people would move on to another service.
c3833174··on A vacuum tube ROM?
Waay too boring following the safety police rules.

Playing with HV can be fun, just build fly swatter-level inverters instead of using a transformer/capacitors big enough to kill you.

A CCFL inverter from an LCD screen is a good start, you can light neon bulbs and gets ozone

c3833174··on Lobotomizing Gnome
That's not always a good thing, everytime I've tried a post-plasma KDE version I've always ended up spending too much time regularly tweaking the whole setup.
c3833174··on Laptop explodes while charging at Letchworth business
AGM batteries are packed with fiberglass, so when oxide starts building up on the plates because of improper charging or electrolyte drying up they start pushing on the case.
c3833174··on 'PC Building Simulator' Is More Fun Than Building a Real Computer
As someone who rebuilt a couple dozens PCs for a charity from dumpster parts, boards in plastic bags while wearing mostly synthetic clothes, I'd say you underestimate the ruggedness of those things.

Drivers and OS are much more likely to be the cause of quirks and weird behaviour.

c3833174··on Brass and lead toxicity in midrange espresso machines
A stainless boiler is just 2 stainless steel cups held togheter by a clamp, it shouldn't affect the price much, my 120€ delonghi has one.
c3833174··on Mozilla working on in-page popup blocker for Firefox
It's just a mozilla devoloper making a dataset of modal popups to experiment, nothing more atm.
c3833174··on Continuing frequency deviation in the Continental European Power System
>how the oscillator behaves in deep sleep mode.

horribly

c3833174··on Continuing frequency deviation in the Continental European Power System
IIRC modern operatings systems use counters in the CPU for timekeeping instead of directly accessing the RTC
c3833174··on Continuing frequency deviation in the Continental European Power System
Before being relegated to cheapest chinese stuff, elecromechanical timers were the norm.

There's probably thousands of electrical panels with old DIN rail timers that don't get replaced until they die.

c3833174··on Continuing frequency deviation in the Continental European Power System
Most clocks are thin, so it's easier to guess the placement of the antenna.
c3833174··on Continuing frequency deviation in the Continental European Power System
Or just reporpose an old phone.
c3833174··on Continuing frequency deviation in the Continental European Power System
It was mostly used in the common radio alarm clocks, the ones with a 4digit red 7 segment display that were all based on an IC from the 70s that handles everything (minus the radio which is a completely indipendent module).
c3833174··on Continuing frequency deviation in the Continental European Power System
Yes, it needs to be perpendicular to the direction of frankfurt for best results

You can find more details in the second page of this datasheet

c3833174··on Should you Rust in embedded yet?
Compile time doesn't mean the compiler won't add more instructions where you might not expect them.
c3833174··on Diesel cars can be banned from German cities, court rules
No, that only applies to cars with the more fancy antiparticulate filter that also requires urea fluid.
c3833174··on After rising for 100 years, electricity demand is flat
>LCD TVs instead of monitors

I don't think it really matters that much (maybe apart from the builtin shutdown timer):

Mid-90s 32" Trinitron CRT 120W

Mid-00s 32" Bravia LCD 130W

c3833174··on “We Are Morons” – A quick look at the Win2k source (2004)
It's real
c3833174··on Designing Windows 95’s User Interface
Windows 7 adds some nice things like search and the explorer shift+Rclick menu, but it also hides some settings panels that haven't changed since 2k behind more clicks.
c3833174··on The Kessler Syndrome Explained (2014)
I think some base stations use GPS time as time/frequency reference.
c3833174··on How do plutonium-powered pacemakers work?
By saving power she means leaving enough margin to keep the supply voltage stable, running the machine near the limit could cause voltage sag when another device like the tape drive is turned on.

Just like apple limits power draw of it's devices to avoid possible reboots when too much current is demanded from an old battery.

c3833174··on Trinitron: Sony's Once Unbeatable Product [video]
They have space to place stuff on top of them, any LCD setup gets messy if you have to add an external box like a decoder without a specialized TV table.
c3833174··on Trinitron: Sony's Once Unbeatable Product [video]
>Some of their early efforts literally required you to re-encode your music into another weird format to use (ATRAC, I think?)

It's not really different from iPods, those required iTunes to load music just like Sony's devices used SonicStage, with the difference of the iPod having an internal hard drive instead of a MiniDISC drive (and later CD walkmans with ATRAC/MP3 support).

c3833174··on Trinitron: Sony's Once Unbeatable Product [video]
Those are Trinitrons too
