That's the point of STRICT isn't it? 2 of the 3 types in your SQL statement aren't valid sqlite data types.
c0wb0yc0d3r··on Sony Is Killing the Blu-ray, but Physical Media Isn't Dead Yet
When you say play, do you mean something else other than reading the disc?

I can't remember if I've tried to play any Blu-ray disc recently, but I know for sure that they can be read. I have a recollection that you might need some software to "mount" the disc so that normal media players can work with the disc.

Do you see this as an unexpectedly challenging task? If so, what do you think makes it challenging?

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Telegram Stars: Pay for Digital Goods and More
But every user needs to have a pushover license, correct? At least that's how it's always seemed to me.

With telegram my partner doesn't need a license. They already use telegram

c0wb0yc0d3r··on FrankenPHP: Modern PHP App Server
I see what you mean. I interpreted the getting started one-liner differently. I took it to mean that the docker container is serving from `/app/public` and the user needs to mount their files accordingly.

c0wb0yc0d3r··on NSA Ghidra open-source reverse engineering framework
Maybe I missed it but it seems like he used it like anyone familiar with reverse engineering would? The video just shows the use of the decompiler, briefly, right?
c0wb0yc0d3r··on T-Mobile Completes Acquisition of Mint Mobile
Some phones have multiple SIM slots.

I've never used eSIMs but seeing as they're just bytes, I would imagine you could switch them much like wifi networks.

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Show HN: I made a programmable computer from NAND gates
You still can! :)

I have just embarked on this journey myself, recently. It is motivating to see others' work. Especially when they're not quite the same as what I'm doing.

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Passkeys: A shattered dream
This is exactly how I describe them to many as well. I just wish there was a USB key with the durability of a metal key.

> hope developers still love to blog details with article mode like this, rather than vlogging it on YouTube.

I think the driving force behind this for many is it's much harder to steal video content. With text bits can scrape it change a few words and reuse it on an SEO ad site.

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Ask HN: Is iCloud a viable alternative to Dropbox? Any other alternatives?
> I have looked into Syncthing and I found that their E2E setup is too daunting.

Are you referring to untrusted devices? That is different than e2e encryption. Synching is e2e encrypted by default. Synching relays are only used when a direct connection with a peer is not possible. When a relay is used the data is encrypted. The relay cannot read it.

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Show HN: CompressX, my FFmpeg wrapper for macOS
Is it just me or is it deceptive to say that a person saves 50% when buying the "standard" license? Both Claude and Gemini seem to come up with a savings of almost 24%. The only way I can reach the 50% mark is by phrasing it as "buy 1 license and get a second license 50% off."

Also "testimonial" should be plural, and "spams" should be singular.

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Libgourou: A Free Implementation of Adobe's Adept DRM on ePub/PDF Files
I feel like some copyright holders would have you believe that both uploading and downloading copyrighted material is breaking the law. However, in practice, it's far more expensive to chase the downloading party as well as far less effective. Stopping the act of uploading stops the act of downloading in many cases.
c0wb0yc0d3r··on Anatomy of a credit card rewards program
I always rate my experience 1 star when checking out at Walmart because of this. Probably won't change anything, but I feel I can't just stop going to Walmart because then Amazon is the only place left. Which is also fucked up but let's stay on topic.
c0wb0yc0d3r··on Dali owner file petition to cap liability in Baltimore bridge collapse at $43.7M
> A dolphin might have mitigated a glancing blow

Are you referring to the animal, or is this slang for some sort of nautical device?

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Dali owner file petition to cap liability in Baltimore bridge collapse at $43.7M
Maps I've seen of the water in the affected area (I'm not sure what the technical term is, nautical chart?) indicate that the channel depth near the bridge is alittle over 15m deep. According to Wikipedia, at its heaviest the dali sits on the shallow side of 15m below the water. I'm not sure what you could reasonably do to impede a ship with such little room.
c0wb0yc0d3r··on Dali owner file petition to cap liability in Baltimore bridge collapse at $43.7M
It sounds like that is already the case.

A quick search indicates that 14-18 year olds can obtain a permit to work in the state of California.
c0wb0yc0d3r··on Endlessh-go: a Golang SSH tarpit that traps bots/scanners
Yes a bot can, and sophisticated bots do.

At the same time it's much easier to write code that just died the bare minimum. Imagine you're a bot herder, if your bot net consists of stolen CPU cycles what difference does it make if your bots are slowed down. It doesn't cost you money.

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Redis adopts dual source-available licensing
That was more because they put a gun to people's head though wasn't it?

Docker on windows is pretty painful without docker desktop. You can certainly get it running without docker desktop, but the polish isn't there. As far as I know there is no way to install docker on windows manually and get integration with 3rd party tools. The closest I've come is using podman desktop. I think it has a way to go before it can be considered a drop in replacement

c0wb0yc0d3r··on Apple Is in Talks to Let Google's Gemini Power iPhone Generative AI Features
Wouldn't the issue be Gemini would need access to the users personal information in order to act on it? Yes there are applications where this wouldn't be needed, but I can't help but think that the number one application of ai would be adding to the capabilities of the personal assistant. To me a personal assistant that couldn't draw on the context of my location, calendar, or communications wouldn't be much improvement.

If you believe the memes, Siri is already quite capable of searching Google for you.

c0wb0yc0d3r··on UK middle classes 'struggling despite incomes of up to £60k a year'
I've always wondered if there's a way to more efficiently tax more aspects of the "business world."

By "business world" I mean business operations and interactions between businesses. I realize that to some extent these taxes would ultimately be passed onto consumers. However, I think there is an upper limit to which that can happen.

For example, I feel like there can be an added or increased tax on mergers and acquisitions. I'm thinking more "sales tax."

Another thought I've had is implementing a tax on advertisement viewership. I don't really know how that'd be implemented so I haven't put much thought into it.
