> tech workers are currently treated well

I’m sorry, but you must not be paying attention to the current climate. To name one example, Facebook just laid off many workers and explicitly labeled them “low performers”.

Tech companies have already been caught colluding to suppress wages. They are sending as many jobs as they can overseas, and bringing in even more h1b workers.

It is clear to anyone that’s paying attention that they are doing their best to damage our negotiating position so that they no longer have to treat us well (read: fairly)

It’s funny how you have hard facts backed by citation, and the other poster has nothing but vibes and anecdotes. I don’t know if you convinced him, but you certainly make a compelling case for everyone else reading this exchange.

I’m astounded by your thought process. Yes, he was posting racist shit during civil unrest, as is his right. Or at least, should be.

As a liberal, your attitude is exactly what got US democrats steamrolled in the latest election.

c0redump··on San Francisco homelessness: Park ranger helps one person at a time
Funding what? What are you asking? They are selling the land to developers, there is no need for the federal government to fund anything. They will be the ones receiving money.
c0redump··on San Francisco homelessness: Park ranger helps one person at a time
The vast majority of people who are simply down on their luck have friends and family that will help them. It’s not like you lose your job and go straight to living under a bridge. Not everyone, but most.

The people who end up in truly dire circumstances have backstabbed everyone who ever trusted or helped them. They have burned every bridge, and nobody they know wants anything to do with them. All to feed a ravenous addiction.

This is more or less what the trump administration says they want to do

> Throughout his campaign, Trump focused on deregulation, tax cuts and reducing mortgage rates. In speeches, including one at the Economic Club of New York in September and a press conference in August, Trump reiterated his promise to reduce regulatory barriers and vowed to make federal land available for extensive housing projects.

Your argument totally falls apart here, because you’re just outright wrong. There are a ton of kids who are curious would-be hackers that turn away from the dark side forever after getting pwned while trying to do something sketchy.

Sounds like you did, in fact, enjoy significant investment gains just by being in the market for a long time. This is by no means guaranteed to be true in the future.

I’m sorry, but do you know what a “slave” is?

I can’t imagine the kind of hopelessly ignorant perspective a person must have to say something like this.

I don’t understand this perspective. It should be abundantly clear at this point that these systems are quite useful for a variety of applications.

Do they have problems? Sure. Do the AI boosters who breathlessly claim that the models are super intelligent make me cringe? Sure.

But saying that they’re not useful is just downright crazy.

If you’re a podcast person, I highly recommend Quantas podcasts “The Joy of x” and “The Joy of y”, they are both excellent.

If you like these, you may also like “Simplifying Complexity” (no relation to Quanta)

Do you not recognize the fact that housing affordability is at a record low? Do you not connect this to low rates of family formation?

I’m not sure how much more obvious these issues could be. I’m even more unsure of why you’re flat out denying them. The only reasonable explanation is that it’s related to some deeply held ideology or dogma of yours.

c0redump··on TikTok tells staff impacted by wildfires to use sick hours if they can't work
I more or less agree with you, but there’s a third path that you left out: expanding their footprint in other countries. For example, pretty much all major tech cos have offices in Hyderabad, India.
c0redump··on TikTok tells staff impacted by wildfires to use sick hours if they can't work
Acknowledging the nuance on this issue is hard, because a lot of people will call you a literal nazi for doing so. But that is a position which, ultimately, entirely denies the existence of culture as a concept.

This compulsive need for data is such a mental crutch. Reason from first principles. Use logic. You don’t need to be spoon-fed data from a scientifically rigorous study in order to deduce basic cause-and-effect relationships.
c0redump··on 41% of Employers Worldwide Say They'll Reduce Staff by 2030 Due to AI

No there isn’t. We just collectively elected a billionaire real estate developer from NYC to be our president. He’s friends with other members of the ownership class, and has demonstrated, before even taking office, that their elite interests are far more important than those of the average American.

I guess I can see why you’d think this because of the UHC killing, but you need to zoom out and see the big picture. We are headed full throttle towards oligarchy and plutocracy, while the masses cheer gleefully.

Depends who you are, I guess. If you’re a young person who is not financially stable enough to form a family because of high housing prices, then you would disagree. If you’re a relatively well-off person with assets like real estate and equities, then you’re quite happy. It’s all a matter of perspective.

I myself am doing quite well financially, but I am still quite unhappy with the current situation because of the devastating effects of inflation and increased housing costs specifically, have had on younger generations (despite the fact that it financially benefits me personally)
