c0nducktr··on If You Want a Car This Heavy, You Should Pay Through the Nose
For all of us who haven't worked in logistics, why not explain what you're talking about instead of being snarky?
c0nducktr··on When seat belt laws drew fire as a violation of personal freedom
I'd wager the guy who's still wearing a mask in 2013 is wearing at least an N95.

I'll also wager when they're talking about masks, they're talking about N95 or better masks.

Edit: Oh, shit what do you know. They're wearing a P100 respirator.

c0nducktr··on Johnson and Johnson sues researchers who linked talc to cancer
Just because there are more people who might need to sue the company isn't a reason to allow it to continue to operate. This is just 'too big to fail' but for different (and now theoretical) reasons.

Maybe the solution is to nationalize J&J.

"You can't bankrupt my company because someone might need to sue me later" is absurd reasoning.

c0nducktr··on Johnson and Johnson sues researchers who linked talc to cancer
What? J&J isn't dissolving.
c0nducktr··on Alaska snow crab season canceled after disappearance of an estimated 1B crabs
What's one more drop of poison, right?
c0nducktr··on Top USB Drives on Amazon are a Scam
I've seen people recommend eBay over Amazon lately, because the sellers actually have to manage their reputation.
c0nducktr··on Open source development is not sustainable
What are you quoting? It doesn't appear to be anything from the submitted post.

If you just want to reply with your comments there is no need to use the less-than sign.

> So why don't we fork the chromium upstream code and only merge security patches?

Are you volunteering to do this? Do you have the time for all of that?

Edit: Why not just use firefox?

c0nducktr··on Betterbird: a fine-tuned version of Mozilla Thunderbird
> The issues laid out in this[0] email thread are pretty concerning

Can you describe what is concerning? I'm not going to look into email threads just because someone says there is something concerning there.

What are your concerns? I'm not here to defend them, but I am lazy. If there are concerns, what are they? I figure if they're concerning enough, they can be described in a few sentences.

c0nducktr··on Google employees alarmed that the company suddenly expects them to do work
Maybe there's "real info" there, a few quotes without context, but this reads like nypost decided to make an edition for silicon valley.
c0nducktr··on Steve Jobs emails himself (2010)
You think it's harder fighting one gorilla or a thousand chimpanzees?
c0nducktr··on Steve Jobs emails himself (2010)
How is your relationship with your father?
c0nducktr··on Apple tells employees to work at the office three times per week starting Sept
What are you getting out of posting that comment?

Do you think choosing employment based on conditions of employment has just never occurred to people on this website?

"Their company, their rules." Yeah, no shit. Great observation.

c0nducktr··on GitHub suspends Tornado Cash developer account
Yes, "prove you're not guilty of a crime", a classic phrase used in free societies.
c0nducktr··on Bitcoin mining becomes unprofitable as BTC price falls to average cost of mining
I do think so, but also believe bitcoin will not be that protocol.

It's the first, but not the best, and while it benefits from being the first, that will only take it so far.

c0nducktr··on Bitcoin mining becomes unprofitable as BTC price falls to average cost of mining
I suppose it depends on what you consider "main street". I noticed the largest amount of people asking me about cryptocurrencies in 2017, during the last run-up.

> I bet a lot of Main Street investors will probably not come back to crypto after this is all over.

I had similar thoughts in 2018.

c0nducktr··on Bitcoin’s nosedive through the $20k mark is a Minsky Moment for crypto
HODL may be dumb, and yes you can cash out and repurchase, but "cashing out and repurchasing" requires timing the market, which generally doesn't work out.

I could've cashed out and repurchased funds in my IRA over the past few months, but that would've required me to be able to predict the future.

> The entire philosophy can be reduced to: if you think it’s going to go up, buy more, otherwise sell.

Isn't this the philosophy behind all investing?

c0nducktr··on Euro Is at $1.05–The Lowest It’s Been in Years
I appriciate your answer, but I was really looking for a response from postingawayonhn.

> Russia has no respect for basic human rights and democracy. Deep economic/social integration with Russia is very dangerous for western liberal democracies until Russia makes major reforms

Is it? We have deep ties with Saudi Arabia. Should those be severed too?

c0nducktr··on Hacking attractiveness biases in hiring? The role of beautifying photo-filters
> For private action, it literally does mean that it is legally acceptable.

I don't believe the parent poster was implying it wasn't legally acceptable. They were making a value statement.

c0nducktr··on Airbnb’s design to live and work anywhere
Agreed. This appears to be the most best, and also most resilient option.

God forbid you run into issues with your outside social circle, you've still got your work circle, and the other way around.

I've only had option #1 happen once, and it was when I encouraged a few friends to apply at my company, and even then, it didn't really merge the social circles, I just had some people which were in both. I wouldn't do it again, either.

It's great to have multiple groups of friends, they don't all need to be related through work.

c0nducktr··on My diet of almost only red meat
It really shows how amazing the human body is. We can survive basically anywhere.
c0nducktr··on My diet of almost only red meat
Can you define "heavy meat consumption"? What is "heavy"?

Edit: Will you define what "heavy meat consumption" means?

c0nducktr··on My diet of almost only red meat
What teeth issues did you run into?

I'm not on a vegan diet, or a carnivore diet, but I worry about my teeth all the time. What happened when you changed your diet? Are these teeth issues, or gum issues, or both?

c0nducktr··on Netflix Should Sell Ads
I'd wager most people here are aware of what happens when advertising enters the conversation.
c0nducktr··on Netflix Should Sell Ads
That sounds great for everyone but the Netflix consumer.
c0nducktr··on Netflix Should Sell Ads
I'm right there with you.

I hate the advertising industry.

Advertisements are a service-killer for me, and when that happens I'll also share my ad-free files with everyone I know.

c0nducktr··on Netflix Should Sell Ads
I wonder that so often, and the answer I find myself landing on is... greed.

It's greed. Investors want to make more money, they don't care about the product, or the experience in using the product. They just want more money. That's how the whole system is set up. It's sadly just how it is.

c0nducktr··on Headlines compared: Polish newspapers from 1939 and news websites from 2022
I don't have the interest or time to go through all of these, (and I many of your comments I don't disagree with) but this one stuck out:

> 7. We suffer very few losses, while the losses of the enemy are enormous.

Everything I've seen in the media (I live in the USA) has been about how the Ukrainian forces have been absolutely kicking the Russian's asses in this war. The "West" supports Ukraine, so their forces could be consider "our forces".

It might be true, might not be, but it would fall in line with these 'Principles of War Propaganda"
