c-c-c-c-con Algol-for-Linux: Reimagining Memory Safety for Linux

After years in the making, ALGOL-for-Linux debuts, offering a fresh perspective on memory safety for the Linux kernel.

c-c-c-c-con LinkedIn is the worst social media I've ever seen

It's useless as a social media or to interact with but excellent when you're looking to reach out to John at Corpo Corp who you met somewhere.

...or to check what your high scool girlfriend is up to 20 years later.

c-c-c-c-con Chimera Linux works toward a simplified desktop

It's stance on keeping it's own reimplementations of parts of systemd as a dependency sadly rules it out for me. It would be a great choice for a linux jail on freebsd.

c-c-c-c-con Study: Playing D&D helps autistic players in social interactions

Constantly having to remind them of rules from session 0, such as 'no alcohol before or during the game'

That sounds like the most boring DnD session ever, we get so high that any underlying condition is masked by having a damn good time. ;)

c-c-c-c-con Groq CEO: 'We No Longer Sell Hardware'

The GroqCard (RS-GQ-GC1-0109) was in stock at mouser a few weeks ago and they are still taking orders.

c-c-c-c-con Zed, a collaborative code editor, is now open source

The former is bad design, it has no gradual fallback and works in a terrifying way. It pulls binaries from MS servers and runs a headless vscode instance on the remote machine. You are dead in the water if you target a machine/architecture it doesnt support.

You want to target FreeBSD? Linux on POWER or RISC-V? An old (ARMV6-TDMI) Raspberry Pi? Sorry, no remote work for you.

They are not an apple and pears comparison...

c-c-c-c-con Zed, a collaborative code editor, is now open source

Please not ala vscode-server over SSH.

Do it proper like emacs tramp so it will connect to any platforms/architectures.

c-c-c-c-con Emacs commands I got by with for years

I believe doom uses the packages vertico and marginalia for that, available on github.

c-c-c-c-con Show HN: Homebrew 16bit CPU from 74HC logic with C compiler and Unix-like OS

This is fun, I stumbled upon his youtube channel recently after he trash talked a lecture by Jan M. Rabaey calling his book the biggest piece of garbage ever written. Impressive stuff nonetheless.

c-c-c-c-con 15-150: Principles of Functional Programming

Wow, he went from taking his bachelor to lecturing.

I always dreamt of that when going through my degree and encountering courses that needed a thorough rework.

c-c-c-c-con M1076 Analog Matrix Processor

Are you talking bjt or cmos now? Theyre not stuck at 40nm due to technical constraints. If they were using memristors sure, but theyre not really available yet.

c-c-c-c-con Steam Deck OLED

I have tinkered on cars both with and without torx. Torx sucks, its also not uncommon for dimensions to differ on included torx tools so when you use a size 3 on another products "torx 3" it will strip away.

c-c-c-c-con Algebra, Topology, Differential Calculus, and Optimization Theory [pdf]

It's just a reference, I wouldn't view it as teaching material.

Its quite useful to look things up in.

c-c-c-c-con Ask HN: Should I sell my vintage computer collection?

Last year I was contacted by a woman whose late husband had amassed a collection similar to yours.

She had decided to donate the machines to those who would find a use for them, that being old co-workers and student organizations at nearby universities, the latter including me. Who would keep them running and in use instead of just collecting dust.

We actually have a guy who still uses an Amiga at his current job spitting out code and whatnot which is quite cool. :-)

c-c-c-c-con The Layoffs at Klarna

This article seems to miss some really important points regarding the layoffs. A majority of the employees that were laid off were recent hires which is evident from the publicly available "Klarna Affected Employees Input Form" available here [1]. It appears that Klarna went on a hiring frenzy and had to reverse that decision. Out of the 560 responses almost 100 are labeled "Talent Acquisition"/"Recruitment".

c-c-c-c-con Sailfish 4

I had the original jolla phone. Fun device and great for starting out developing simple apps.

Back then they had a 3rd party whatsapp client called mittäkuuluu (litteraly what's up in finnish) in addition to the official one running through the android layer.

Since then whatsapp has blocked 3rd party clients and i believe youre not able to run whatsapp on the consumer version of sailfish.

Something really cool they had was integration with whatsapp and the facebook messenger with the sms app with contacts synced across the three.
