byzantinegene··on AI boom risks global financial crash, warn central bankers
so your company runs on a vibe-coded saas app, that sure is a confidence booster for your would-be customers.
byzantinegene··on AI boom risks global financial crash, warn central bankers
that is not production ready
byzantinegene··on Why current LLM costs are not sustainable
Unfortunately, the economics of what you suggest do not justify the trillion dollar valuations of OpenAI and Anthropic.
byzantinegene··on Why current LLM costs are not sustainable
unlikely scenario as the main mandate of the federal reserve is to keep inflation in check. inflation reaching such levels would also cause interest rates to rise astronomically, and this would make the debt harder to service
byzantinegene··on Why current LLM costs are not sustainable
gpt 5.5 regularly wastes tokens on wrong commands, requires lots of handholding. I highly doubt there's substantial improvement
byzantinegene··on Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads
yes, this will give the Chinese a good opportunity to catch up.
byzantinegene··on Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads
come on now, we all know who the biggest culprit is
byzantinegene··on Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads
why not compare the prices a couple years ago instead?
byzantinegene··on Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads
are consumers really tolerating current prices?
byzantinegene··on Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads
it's destroying consumption before destroying jobs, which is somehow even worse than initially imagined
byzantinegene··on Mmorpg World of ClaudeCraft, vibe coded with Fable 5
the language the original wow code is written it doesn't matter because translating programming languages is trivial for a llm.
byzantinegene··on Identity verification on Claude
and.. how is codex any better?
byzantinegene··on Identity verification on Claude
you understimate how large the international market is, for example, half of google's revenue is generated from international markets.
byzantinegene··on Identity verification on Claude
some people will, but they will have to bear the costs being the only users of llms sustained through billions of dollars of funding.
byzantinegene··on Identity verification on Claude
not if they run out of investments to train their cutting edge models. Anthropic and OpenAI IPOs are going to be a massive flop if they aren't able to sell their best models to the world.
byzantinegene··on There is minimal downside to switching to open models
10x developers were not slightly better than their peers, they were vastly superior and faster. OTOH, the lead of frontier llms is diminishing as training is getting diminishing returns.

Also, on that note. Not every company needs 10x developers, just as not every task needs frontier llms. Ultimately, operating costs will be the largest contributing factor.

byzantinegene··on Generative AI Is Having Its Herbalife Moment
most ai use and spend is still by humans. laying off humans would (ironically) reduce ai spend and use.
byzantinegene··on Generative AI Is Having Its Herbalife Moment
read the article. it stated clearly why vibe-coded apps do not work. a frying pan does its intended purpose.
byzantinegene··on AI is code – and can't be prompted into being smarter
i don't think training is necessarily the right solution for such attacks. a proper harness would be more effective
byzantinegene··on AI is code – and can't be prompted into being smarter
technically, he didn't do that. your ai agent decided to follow his instructions when they didn't have to.
byzantinegene··on OpenAI mulls slashing prices as it competes with Anthropic for users
you're not a corporation, corporations are price-sensitive and the decision-makers are typically not the end-users.
byzantinegene··on OpenAI mulls slashing prices as it competes with Anthropic for users
it's really not much compared to the amount they are spending on training. 100 developers at $200 per month is just $20000
byzantinegene··on Cybersecurity researchers aren't happy about the guardrails on Anthropic's Fable
if it doesn’t let you do anything, the assumption might be that it could do everything, more hype generated
byzantinegene··on AI outperforms law professors in Stanford Law study
it's also worth keeping in mind that alot of the 'improvements' are actually advancements in harnesses and tools.
byzantinegene··on Claude Opus 4.8
alot of investor money is hinging on models performing better every release.
byzantinegene··on I think Anthropic and OpenAI have found product-market fit
yes, which is why the revenue growth story is not looking so great for Anthropic/OpenAI, when open-source alternatives are not far behind with much lower costs.
byzantinegene··on Various LLM Smells
the other day there was a hackernews comment about ai-generated music, and this poster claimed that a friend generated ai music and got as much enjoyment as actual ones composed by musicians. I suppose this falls under the same camp..
byzantinegene··on I think Anthropic and OpenAI have found product-market fit
8B models would be consider obsolete in the world of 2T models, at least if we're talking about the competitiveness of OpenAI/Anthropic. The only reason why they are valued so highly is their supposed dominance at the top end.
byzantinegene··on Google changes its search box
except this isn't a solution. taking away sources just creates another problem down the road. there's no information to crawl from if no one is building websites to crawl from.
byzantinegene··on Childhood Computing
very good point, but I think the message has been complicated long before AI slop, from the rise of tablets and social media platforms.
