The author has a valid point in that the information asymmetry will attract sellers whose property is overvalued to sell to Zillow. I suspect though that something different happened in reality. I live in a 70 unit condo building, so there are a lot of very good comparables. Zillow bought one of the units about 10% over market value, which makes me think that they're doing some sort of market manipulation, like charging a 20% fee that is not part of the real estate record. So they wanted to pump up prices, but it didn't work.
I happened to cancel my Prime earlier this morning. They do make you click through a few pages. They validated my decision by showing how many free prime orders I had, and it'd come out to a wash even if I paid to expedite all of them. Most of the time I would be fine waiting a few days. As a bright spot they had the option to keep enjoying Prime benefits until my membership actually expires. It really pisses me off when companies only have the option to "cancel right now" and forego the membership that you already paid for.
That is an advantage for the little guy though. If I sell 10 shares when the price is $100, then I'll get $100/share. A huge investor selling 1,000,000 of the same shares might move the price to $98 and average $99/share. Obviously these are made up numbers, and you don't sell a million shares by using just one market order, but the principle is the same. Large investors do have advantages, like better information.
How robust is it to rely on the user mode program to look at /proc? Do you ever get timing issues when the process already exited or its PID was recycled?
Also this part is incorrect/confusing: "When I ran ps aux | grep kafka, I saw that the kafka process ID is 311738", since the screen grab underneath shows a "tail -f" process.
Any chess players who played under the Russian flag before the invasion. I don't know the exact details in chess, but in most sports you have to declare a country when participating in top level sports. For example dual citizens cannot just switch between playing for any country's national team that they are a citizen of.
It is a sucky situation without any perfect solutions. Banning all Russian athletes is a clear decision. Judging everyone based on their individual reactions to the invasion is just not a scalable solution, and probably also puts those who speak out in greater danger.
Must not be rolled out to your profile. Click on your profile name, then under "email" I have "showdead", then "noprocrast", "maxvisit". and "minaway".
Some politicians secured campaign contributions from the crypto lobby, that's all. I didn't see details on how much extra it'll cost compared to paying with a check/ACH.
Very interesting. I've never interacted with him on social media, but have experienced people who were spreading the "we know less than we think and let's be humble" vibe be very quick to block when commenting something not 100% laudatory.
What is a compelling use case for omitting values in hashes or method calls? I would think that it just increases cognitive load for the code maintainer, and makes the parser more complex.
I really tried by getting a nice System76 laptop from work, but PopOS is orders of magnitude more fragile for me than my Mac-s. In a couple of years of using it I've had my screen have random images drawn on it by the graphics driver, closing the screen without putting the laptop in sleep mode often ends up in having to reboot, my battery had to be replaced after 18 months just to mention the major issues. After upgrading to PopOS 21.10, my screen shuts off after 30 seconds idle time, and the launcher got reworked so that the first thing that comes up is not my curated list of apps. It feels like a Linux desktop from old times...
Had a chance to read it, but it doesn't really say how you decided that your company is just as productive with a 4-day workweek as before. How did you measure?
Wasn't Theranos' claim that they could do tests from much less blood? So how could the results be accurate if they presumably didn't have enough samples?
Felt like a boxing match where Carlsen knocked Nepo down in the 6th game, and after that he just wasn't the same boxer/chess player. The next 3 decisive games had blunders by Nepo that would be bad for even the #1000 chess player.
I am not OP, but think of it from a contributor's point of view: you work X hours on a new feature that even gets accepted into the master, but then you know that 99.9% of mosh users will not see it because it's not part of a release. I don't know how I would feel about that.
Obviously I didn't read the whole thing since it's over a hundred pages, but the paper says that BTC will used to do the mechanics of the trade, but settlement will be in fiat currencies.
No boot will help you over smooth ice, sorry. You can wear something like Yaktrax, over your shoes, or look out for a thin layer of ice on the pavement.
Yeesh. I should've said that it was tried in the US and didn't catch on. Not having a tipping culture to begin with is great, but the hard part is to switch from tipping to not tipping without legislating it.
Interesting that AWS went with the "pet vs cattle" terminology in their blog post. I thought it was not very cool to use in 2020, as evidenced by debates on naming convention in K8S.
Writing this on a System 76 laptop running the latest PopOS and I wish I had the same experience. Sleep/wake works if I explicitly put my machine into sleep, but not if I just close the screen.
Kilian was supposed to run his first road marathon in Valencia IIRC, not sure if it's canceled, but he's been doing a lot of track work. And last year he took like 5 minutes off Wyatt's Sierre Zinal course record, so you never know with Kilian.
