Overengineering aside (which is pretty legitimate way of doing hobby tech), why not build SANE on WASM? And maybe interfacing with airplay scanners could be even easier?
Good news, now there is a HUGE space in "classic" web search market. Let google do google things, and if they ever will try to come back, there will be large competition of various sizes.
If program has time to display startup banner - it is too slow. I was amazed how quickly Zed starts and it already has last project open and ready. Compared to JetBrains IDE, in some recent version they even added a toast informing that IDE is not responding. That tells much about application. And when whole UI keeps loading separate blocks like a website - absolutely annoying. Sometimes I don't even know if UI is actually ready to work, or clicking git branch selector will not yield any results, because something somewhere is still loading. Several GB size on disk with mostly unused plugins is just taking up space and makes loading IDE slower. They lost me as a customer when they dropped community edition of PyCharm. I was paying for PhpStorm for several years, until then, and dabbling with Python on the side. Having mandatory log in for free version is absurd.
Isn't this just a way to confirm that your email is still active, and few miliseconds later you will be getting a lot of new spam from websites you never knew about?
Just hold your horses, I started vibe coding not only Photoshop, but whole Creative Suite with all the utilities. Sorry to say, but I ran out of tokens this month, so it might take a while until I will be able to take on Adobe. Just sit tight and send positive vibes my way.
How locked down macOS is these days? Is it still possible to use OS without account and freely "sideload" software applications? Is homebrew still a thing?
How about YouTube RSS feed, where description contains summary from video in text format? Imagine how much time could be saved because TL;DW. Of course, Google would never do such a thing.
I would like to see all "desktop" applications that use Electron listed and how big of a Chromium drift is there, especially how many applications are shipping runtimes with unfixed vulnerabilities.
Thanks for reminding about missing transparency. I think seeing those games in emulator with transparency support had almost same impression as running Need for Speed III with 3dfx card for the first time :)
Whole this "GenAI" nonsense just made me appreciate handrafted code more. I really like diving deep into documentation to figure out how things work and actually understand why something does not. YMMW.
How about creating issues and tagging the ones where PRs are welcome and inform everyone about this way of work? I understand the frustration, when someone comes one day to the project with tens PRs and most of them are missing the point of application or going way out of scope, that will surely make maintenance in the future problematic. Everyone's time will be saved by informing about contribution limits upfront.
