butler14··on UnDUNE II
Hah. This takes me back. Classic doesn't quite cover it.

I will say it's nice not having to click and Move on the sidebar manually each time you want to move a unit.

I do seem to remember each unit made a sound when you click them like "reporting" and when you move them "acknowledged"? Which again was incredibly repetitious but also quite characterful!

i cannot upvote this enough, the keyboard is a DAILY annoyance, especially selecting words
butler14··on My AI Adoption Journey
I'd be interested to know what agents you're using. You mentioned Claude and GPT in passing, but don't actually talk about which you're using or for which tasks.

butler14··on Google is dead. Where do we go now?
Google and Google Ads are not one and the same.

The jump from the op's "i screwed up my google ads campaigns" to "Research shows that many young people are getting their information from short video platforms like TikTok"....

i mean, c'mon

butler14··on LLMs Are Not Fun
exactly

end of the day, guys like the author, for better or worse, are going to be replaced by the next generation of developers who don't care for the 'aesthetics' in the same way

butler14··on NATO Ended Russia's Estonian Air Incursions
And that’s before you even get to the asymmetric costs.
butler14··on Tinnitus Neuromodulator
Another message of hope: I'm mid-late thirties and had the exact same. Daily tinnitus from December 2024 through to around August 2025.

I went through MRI etc to no avail.

Then one day I felt something (extremely deep in my ear) just 'release', like a tube unblocking or pressure equalising. And the sound went away and (fingers crossed) hasn't come back since. This was after daily issues for 8-9 months solid.

butler14··on AI Mode in Search gets new agentic features and expands globally
not an issue /yet/ as it's separate and barely anyone is using it
butler14··on GPT-5: Key characteristics, pricing and system card
I had this too last week. It pointed out two errors that simply weren’t there. Then completely refused to back down and doubled down on its own certainty, until I sent it a screenshot of the original prompt. Kind of funny.
butler14··on Get Out of My Head
Honestly if you're removing meta tags from the html of a page for page speed/server space/bandwidth/environmental benefits -- it's time to do something else

I hate FB/twitter as much as the next tech-savvy person but accept that my users use those platforms and it's good for my website to show up optimally when they do

butler14··on Pentagon to terminate $5.1B in IT contracts with Accenture, Deloitte
"but part of the secret sauce of why these big orgs generally operate as effective institutional ecologies"

Nah

the secret sauce is "who you know"

it's a tale as old as time

butler14··on Gold pops above $3k/oz for first time in historic safe-haven rally
In the UK, at least, gold coins and gold bars benefit from a special tax status which means that they are exempt from VAT

Certain coins, such as the Gold Sovereign in the UK are classed as legal tender and as such are exempt from capital gains tax

butler14··on China advises citizens specializing in AI to avoid traveling to America

Funny that, of all the questions to ask, you of all people ask marketing questions, Rand :)
butler14··on Show HN: I got laid off from Meta and created a minor hit on Steam
Played the demo of this a few months back on our living room tv + controller and my u5 y/o kids were quite taken with it.

Congrats!

butler14··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
10 years of indoctrination via social media and Fox News is holding them back, unfortunately
butler14··on One in four 2020 Tesla Model 3 failed the Danish periodic inspection in 2024
This is the same in the UK. The market's absolutely flooding and they can be picked up for nothing.

Huge NHS and government leases of tens of thousands of vehicles.

Same goes for the Jaguar iPace. You can get 90,000GBP of car for like 35,000 with all the gadgets.

butler14··on OpenRA – Classic strategy games rebuilt for the modern era
Doesn’t exactly answer your question, but I am hoping zerospace is the ‘next big thing’ / thing to reinvigorate the genre

Recent steam demo is super, super fun

It’s a shame aoe3 didn’t manage to pull over the sizable aoe2 audience and build upon it. That is basically the only major rts release in years. And it is really good but it was never going to be aoe2 and that’s not good enough for that hardcore player base.

butler14··on Homes Withstood the LA Fires. Architects Explain Why
Good time to run a fire resistant cladding company (or passivehaus design company) in the LA area -- I can only imagine, at least for those that can afford it, it's a no brainer if you're going to stay in the area
