burnedbyhell··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
I invite friends over. I love to cook and I also am a single father of three all ages kids. Even parents with kids rarely come over. Not only are they busy but my availability is very narrow.

It is lonely out there and how do folks expand a friend group at this age with how busy they are, especially to include people who want to come over for dinner parties?

The better alternative is to reshuffle what teaching means.

Right now teacher largely execute a curriculum this is predefined and do behavior management in US public schools at least. There is not a whole lot of creativity and a lot of rigid administration.

Given that teacher salaries are one of the biggest expenditures it makes sense to try to gain efficiencies while trying to improve results.

Under the current scheme, the results are headed downhill. More of the same won't solve any problems.

burnedbyhell··on Show HN: How long do I need to work at my salary before I can coast, or retire?
Thanks. Work has always been a means to get out of working. With so many hobbies and interests, work has always been a drag. I don't want much and what I do buy i do my best to 'buy it for life.'

Be careful with this nest egg it can be shattered at any time before you choose to retire (unemployment, sickness, getting swindled, divorce, bad investments, ....).

If you do FIRE the jealousy and resent and other people being embarrassed for you while you enjoy your life can be a little isolating.

The fucking moon.
burnedbyhell··on The pencil case model of creativity
Creativity takes time to get into the right mindset before it manifests. The demands of life in the modern era leave little room for self.

Work alone is an unavoidable sacrifice of quality of life for the majority of people.

burnedbyhell··on Burnt out on a three-day week
Burnout happened to me because I lost my way.

I had worked 25 hard years to LeanFIRE which ag the end burned me out but I knew why. Less than two years later divorce happened. This forced me back into the workforce. I chose a job that fit my values. I have no reason or understanding of why I matter anymore and that has led to significant and severe burnout.

Find a purpose in life and protect it. In the end you can only rely only on yourself.
