Happy to answer any questions about how we built it, our tech stack, or what it's like doing a startup with your wife :)
While we built it with general contractors in mind, we think it would work great for the do-it-yourselfer as well. Priced affordably with no monthly fees, you can track all the details on your own schedule.
I've learned a lot from these forums over the years and am excited to finally be able to do our own Show HN. Happy to answer any questions about what it's like doing a startup with your wife, our somewhat unusual tech stack (we bet on Neo4j early), or advice on how to make sure you end up with a good contractor for your next project.
Turns out the car service business isn't very sticky at all (even the drivers work for multiple companies...). Drivers start to leave and the downward spiral begins. They just couldn't get to self driving vehicles fast enough - which may be why they were trying to borrow technology from Google.
No more factories, or dependency injection, or crazy template language that is never quite expressive enough, and no more digest cycles to optimize.
We're looking for a contractor to re-write an existing iPhone/Android line of business application to ReactNative. The app has approximately 25 unique screens with the majority being read only. We are interested in doing an initial proof of concept to determine the feasibility of using ReactNative with full implementation to follow.
- Must have previous experience with ReactNative and Redux, example app is best
- Must have experience optimizing ReactNative performance
- Must have experience writing high quality unit tests
Contract terms are negotiable, project is ready to start immediately. Contact bill@levelstory.com for more information. My particular app is read heavy and so I can eliminate the majority of the server calls altogether via caching. While GraphQL would help me fetch only the data I need on each page and decouple the data access, I don't see how I reuse objects across pages without interrogating the GraphQL queries. I haven't given it all that much thought though so maybe I'm missing something.
We also discovered that since writing components is so much easier in React than with Angular 1.5 we tend to write a lot more of them. This makes the components easier to test and has greatly improved reuse across the code base. Which in turn makes adding features possible that would have destabilized the old code base.
I did look at Angular 2 and just saw more of the same and didn't want to deal with it anymore. I found that I personally aligned well with the React ecosystem (Redux, JSX, CSS in Javascript) which probably colored some of my decision.
These days you can be be learning to code using any number of slick web sites in about 5 minutes.
It's sort of like deciding to be a music major when you've never played an instrument before. How do you know if you even enjoy it before starting down the long path to getting a degree in it?
When I asked the person why it was closed, I was informed it was too broad and not a 'good fit' for SO. Of course it was broad, beginners don't know what they don't know. I then looked up this persons history to the first questions that they had asked themselves. I was not at all surprised to see that they were all very similar types of questions to the one that was just closed.
I pointed this out and how their questions had gotten 50+ upvotes and multiple answers which then led them to help others and become a mod vs this poor person that will never bother using SO again. His response? SO has changed, it's not for beginners anymore.
Quick look online found plenty of nice ones for $0.20 a piece that you could put a sticker on with your logo. This is what a lot of smaller places do in Seattle and it seems to work just fine.
I'm not sure why this is such an emotional topic. Maybe I just have thick skin, but some random stranger on the internet giving me a down vote is not really even going to give me a moment of pause. Let alone so much that I feel that I have to demand rationalization from every person that cares to disagree with me.
We're an online project management service for general contractors focused on the remodel and renovation industry. We're currently building out our mobile experience for employees so they can track their tasks and log their hours while at the job site. We have an existing iPhone app and are looking for an experienced mobile developer to make improvements and help us develop an Android version.
Experience with both iOS (Objective-C) and Android is required. Having previously ported an iOS app to the Android platform would be excellent. Experience with working with REST APIs, AWS S3, and push notifications would be nice.
If you're interested, you can contact me directly at bill@levelstory.com for more information or to apply. If applying, please include your CV / Githb / links to projects / etc, as well as your availability and day rate.
