Jetpack the plugin does not send end-user data home, only Jetpack the paid service does that, the customer base of Jetpack is small. If a plugin's theoretical access to user data is enough to cause GDPR responsibilities for the developer that would have broad ramifications across the world of open-source, as code written by some developer in their free time is being used by every company.

I'm loath to defend Mullenweg but WordPress.com is not 43% of the internet. WordPress (the software) is used by 43% of websites, WordPress.com is used by a few million, making it smaller than Wix, Squarespace and even other WordPress hosts like WPEngine.com. Automattic has no relationship with a meaningful amount of end-user data.

Rumors are that another round of voluntary layoffs are coming to Automattic today. I am optimistic for the future of WordPress because it looks less and less likely to involve Matt. Matt has created the ideal conditions for a fork to succeed: WordPress (the software) is a fixture of the internet, it is never going away no matter how much Matt sabotages it but Matt's control over it is not a foregone conclusion given all Matt really controls is the brand. The name and leadership may change, but WordPress will live on.

Matt doesn't appear to have a problem with the website ("It actually is an excellent website"[1]). Please create a Pull Request with any changes you think necessary.

The inclusion of the nosebleed is not to make fun of Matt, it is to highlight something relevant to the medical issues that people have speculated about. The motivation is to bring to light Matt's wide-ranging exploits in one place, given it is abnormal for someone involved in high-profile litigation to spend their time arguing on Hacker News, Reddit, Twitter and live streams.

I have been unable to convince Jason Bahl to share the ~threats~ ~coercion~ terms you used to convince him to join Automattic. Your contribution via GitHub of the terms that you used to ~coerce~ persuade him into defecting would be appreciated.
